Hikaru lay quietly on the soft grassy floor of the biodome, watching fog swirl past his face, reminiscing about the past few days. I missed the tournament signups by three days? I still can't believe it. the warrior thought, his spiky dark hair ruffled in the slight breeze, and he reached to run his hand across the smooth metal of his blade, which had been laying beside him. Well I guess you can't sleep in and expect to wake up early.

Hikaru shifted body to be more comfortable then froze when he felt another, powerful reiatsu enter within his range. What the hell? he turned his body to get a better look then, realizing he couldn't see he concentrated, "Give vision life, make the intangibles tangible. Bakudou number five, Mage Eye." instantly the entire field turned blue and he saw a small red dot some distance away from him, humanoid in form.

"Great, I wonder if it's the Easter bunny" the sarcastic shinigami grumbled, he crouched on his haunches, and slung his zanpakutou across his back, "Guess it's show time."Hikaru quickly, wrapped his hand around the hilt of his sword, and readied himself to strike quickly if need be. Hopefully, he won't maim me too badly.

With a soft crunch, Major Nenshou Mouko made her way slowly through the dense fog. She could hardly see a foot in front of her, the tracking capabilities of Orpheus agents useless without a trail to so much as see.

Wearing her usual combat attire, her long-sleeved olive drab jacket shielding her from the chilly air. Her usual armaments had been abandoned. Draugr, her high-power carbine, had been replaced temporarily with a standard-issue Revenant. Her revolver, the devastating Epitaphe, did not sit in the holster at her side but a Grave-keepeR, the basic pistol of all agents.

With the bullpup rifle slung over her shoulder, she scratched uncomfortably at the black band around her left bicep. She'd refused to show the shinigami administrating the limiters her right arm. Brushing an errant lock of onyx hair from her face, she breathed lightly. The absence of the majority of her energy was stifling, though it was more telling with her lack of usual company.

Neither Ryou nor Ishi would join her in this fight.

A slight curiosity burned in her gut. She had been challenged, specifically challenged, by a shinigami. Who even knew her to challenge her? What possible reason would they have? Why did she have to wear this ridiculous limiter?

"Hello?" She called out, a slight frown on her face. The words echoed back to her, the maddeningly thick fog effectively blinding her.

The boy crept slowly across the grassy plain watching his opponent's steadily moving figure, "I wonder what she's like. Maybe she's nice." he shook his head briskly, "No she's the the enemy, for now at least."

He heard her call out , "Hello?" her voice echoed across the biodome.

"What?" Hikaru called out in response to her cry, "I'm Hikaru, how are ya doing?" Genius. I think that's the smartest thing you've said all day. he muttered to himself, I shoulda said, hey babe, whats shaking? or Whats a girl like you doing out here so far away from home? he drew his sword and stood up to his full height, however small as it was he didn't get very tall.

"Hikaru Miyazaki, sword mage of the 8th division. Have you come prepared?" the warrior asked, as stoically as he could manage. Yeah, much better. the boy grinned wildly, his eyes still glowing a bright blue.

"Ah, there you are." She chirped amicably. "Nenshou Mouko, though you probably know that already. If you don't mind me asking, why challenge me?"

She steadily inched her pistol from its holster at her hip, ready to react to any sudden attacks. This Hikaru seemed nice enough, but you could never tell. His allegiance, the Eighth Division, stuck in her mind as she tried to recall anyone else from such a place.

To her chagrin, she couldn't remember anyone. Settling for adopting a defensive stance, she awaited his response.

"Honestly? I don't really have a reason" his garments blowing in the slight breeze, he placed his hands nonchalantly behind his head, careful to keep them well within drawing range of his zanpakutou. "I was just bored and wanted something to do. I already missed the tournament, so I figured I'd challenge a random person to a match just for fun."

The warrior stretched his neck side to side, then stared at her an innocent smile on his lips, "Before the match I didn't even know if you were a girl or a boy. But a fight is a fight I suppose." Hikaru unsheathed his shadowy zanpakutou, and adopted an aggressive stance blade in hand backwards and facing forward, one hand behind his arm. "From the defensive stance you're taking you must not trust me very much."

Why should she? I am her enemy at present, aren't I? The young shinigami grunted and shook his head, as if shaking off doubtful thoughts. I wish I could see what she was thinking, like a mystic. That might freak her out tho oh well, you live and you learn. he lamented

"So, shall we begin what we came here for?" The young man grinned darkly, and backed away slowly into the shadows. As his still brightly glowing blue eyes, left behind an eerie afterglow.

:naughtypanda:

She hummed thoughtfully. "So you can see me, then."

Wordlessly, she slung her rifle around from her shoulder. Disconnecting the strap, the piece of leather fell uselessly to the ground. Then, slowly at first, Mouko began to spin the rifle and pistol about.

Picking up speed, the pistol spun about Mouko's hand, safety flicked on and off at increasingly fast intervals. Eventually, it was instinct - the soft snap of the catch echoing alongside the sharp sound of her seizing the pistol in a new grip.

The rifle swung through the air in a lazy arc, stopping occasionally to be held at a certain angle. It trailed quick circles through the fog, Mouko's stance relaxed, but drawn inwards as though ready to act.

[ 123 / 445 ]

I wonder, Hikaru thought beginning to circle around her slowly, listening to the loud clicking noise, that resounded across the dome. What does she think of me so far...Oh well it doesn't matter, provided this fight goes well she'll be unconscious, and won't have to think till she wakes.

The young warrior continued walking slowly, as to avoid detection, and watching her carefully as she spun her weapons around in rapid circles. Should I strike now? I mean she does have the upper hand with those ranged weapons I saw. But she can't see so she'd be wasting bullets... Hikaru flipped his dark zanpaktou forward in his hand again, as if it were lighter than air, and reared back "I suppose I'ts now or never."

The shinigami took careful aim, and tensed his body like a rubber band, and then swung his entire body forward, flinging his sword spinning like pinwheel, through the misty air straight towards Mouko. Then taking roughly five steps away from where he originally stood, dashed at her from behind, aiming to knock her out with a punch to the face. He closed his eyes as he came within ten meters of her as to hide his bright eyes.

[203/788] words

The sharp whistle of the blade cut through the air, Mouko's ears perking briefly before her stance shifted. Her pistol stopped in its firing lines - before a deafening crack went through the air. The bullet blasted from the barrel of the Grave-keepeR. Clanging against the sword with a warbling note, the zanpakuto went awry, sticking point-first into the ground well short of its target.

Then, the soft pattering of feet reached her ears. With a low "Tch!" she spun on the spot, firing lines once more spinning wildly. Hikaru's approach was swift, but his eyes were shut! Ducking low, the fist sailed clean over her head. Then, a second explosion sounded in the air.

Incendiary hell exploded from the now-stilled Revenant. The Pyro Rounds of the Initiative screamed point blank towards Hikaru's left knee, aiming to cripple his movement.

Shot the sword out of the air with the pistol to activate Senkoutaihou Kata.

Revenant is 100 base damage, augmented by Pyro Rounds for an additional 20 damage, and again by Senkoutaihou Kata for 10 more. Grand total is 130 reiatsu in damage.

[Revenant AUG]
The Revenant "Armee-Universal-Gewehr" - or "Universal Army Rifle" is a relatively new addition to Orpheus' stock. Having been designed by the Initiative's German branch in conjunction with civilian subcontractors, the Revenant AUG offers agents a degree of power normally reserved for much larger firearms, while maintaining a compact, modular construction. This locked-bolt, bullpup rifle also features dual firing modes, allowing agents to quickly adapt to a variety of combat situations.

Effect: A basic weapon capable of firing Orpheus' spiritually imbued ammunition. Can deal 100 Reiatsu worth of damage per turn. Effective range of twenty to twenty-five meters.

[Pyre Rounds]
Manufactured alongside Ice Rounds in a project created to try and mimic Shinigami Demon Magic, Fire rounds encase a positively explosive cocktail of combustible ingredients and reiatsu. Upon impact, a flare of reiatsu erupts from the casing to scorch, sear, and smolder anything they come in contact with.

Effect: Imbues ammunition with incendiary properties. Increases base weapon damage by 20. Ignites flammable targets.

[Senkoutaihou Kata] - “Flash Cannon Style”
A style of gunplay learned only through intense physical training and conditioning, Senkoutaihou Kata is more akin to a martial art than anything. The style emphasizes fluid attacks - its series of complex stances and maneuvers are strung together in order to maximize a firearm's field of fire while keeping an agent clear of statistically traditional vectors of counter attack. With Senkoutaihou Kata very little motion is wasted during attacks, making it possible for agents to quickly shift from offense to defense, stance to stance, and to quickly adapt to a variety of battlefield scenarios. While its main focus is the use of standard side arms in combat, any available firearm can be potent in the hands of a Kata user. In practical terms, this technique increases one's spatial awareness, as well as the agents accuracy and reaction time whilst handling firearms. Simply put, the premise of the style is to shoot where the enemy ought to be, and not to be where the foe ought to shoot.

Upon dodging an attack from an enemy, the user may immediately counter attack, dealing damage equal to the output of a single equipped firearm (reiatsu is still paid for this attack), plus an additional 1% of their reiatsu.

Shit, I think I missed Hikaru thought as his blow failed to connect, he quickly decided his next task was determining the location of his sword. He barely noticed her spin around quickly, then level her gun at his knee. Aw crap. the shinigami thought, he attempted to move away from the dangerous gun before it fired, but his movement didn't help much against the widespread fire at point blank range. His slight turn saved his knee but only barley, leaving a large wound in the leg above it.

The gunshot wound was thankfully not very deep, it was very large and painful; It's widespread nature made him lose half of the lower part of his shihakshou, turning his long garment into shorts. It also knocked him to the ground, the warrior rolled back into the shadows just beyond her sight, angrily muttering hadou. " Slice open the gaps to Heaven's gateway! Draw the hidden blade." not considering the consequences shouted angrily, "Hadou number nine, Kamaitachi!"

Then a blistering current of air forcefully blew past him, ripping into his adversary as unseen blades of wind slashed at her savagely. The boy himself quietly limped away, dragging his torn clothing behind him, while attempting to create a makeshift bandage around his bloody knee. "Okay, so she's no pushover. At least I've gained some Intel on the enemy." the embarrassed, and limping warrior muttered angrily to himself. "Now I've got to find my sword." His blue eyes glared as he looked at his very bloody wound, then twisted into a grimace of pain as he tied a firm knot to stop the bleeding.

The fog split wide temporarily, the Major bringing her sidearm to bear. With a familiar vibration radiating up her arm, she blasted away a single of the blades, only to gasp as the remainder rushed past her.

Cuts trailed up her arms, at least one of the torrent drawing a thin line of blood from her cheek. It had, however, afforded her a brief window of sight through the dense fog. Blood trailed against the ground, leading away from her and back into the distance. With a grim determination, she followed the path it led her on.

The man couldn't hide forever, now.

A few minor wounds scored by Kamaitachi, she avoided taking any damage to her chest though. Tracking Hikaru through the fog using Gumshoe (Orpheus Technique). As a side note, your reiatsu stat is your total energy - it doesn't have a threshold that determines how much you can use. Good on you for keeping track of your thresholds, though!

If you have any questions about reiatsu usage and where thresholds apply, feel free to IM me on AIM or Private Message me on the forums.

[Gumshoe]
A fact often drowned out by the paramilitary nature of the organization is that Orpheus agents are skilled detectives. Though in recent times the organization has been characterized by significantly more vicious encounters, it is at its heart an agency designed for the explicit purpose of investigating paranormal phenomena as well as combating spiritual threats. Using the faintest traces of reiatsu and the smallest clues, an astute agent can gain invaluable insight into any situation. Passively, this ability reduces the efficacy of illusionary abilities, as the user can detect even the slightest of inconsistencies that might give the ability away. This does not allow the user to see through illusions, only make them aware of the ability. Practically speaking, these same traits are used by agents to hunt their spiritual quarry and bring them to justice. As such, a character trained in this technique may track anything that has gone by within a week regardless of cloaking or misdirection abilities. Again, this does not allow them to see through the actual ability, but they will always be on the trail.

Adele wandered into the arena accompanied by her everpresent feline companion. The fog clouded her vision, but purple cat ears nestled beneath her hair picked up on even the slightest sounds, informing her of what was happening in this particular match. She didn't really know either of the contestants, but she knew the shinigami in this fight was new and was curious as to how well another newer soul reaper would fare.

Settling on a branch of a rather comfortable tree, she let the illusion of a cat cover her form. Hopefully no one would notice the small grey cat in the mist or her larger, black companion. "Did that kid just throw his sword?" Midnight asked, narrowing his green eyes as he turned his ears towards the sound of something whistling through the air.

"I think so," the nekogami replied softly in Cat just before a rather odd clanging sound reached the felines' ears. "What was that?"

"I think something hit the sword," the tomcat replied in answer to his shinigami's question.

"Ah... a projectile. That's a human this new shinigami is fighting. So did the human have a gun?" Adele squinted in futile attempt to see through the fog. The contestants were briefly visible when the new recruit used a wind based attack, but clouds rushed in to cloak them both just afterwards.

Midnight sniffed the air. "One is male and one is female. The shinigami is the male, his scent is more mixed with the smell of shinigami robes and the female's clothes smell weird."

"That might be because she's a human. She came from Earth, how interesting. Maybe we can meet her when the match ends," the Mystic's eyes glittered in excitement. She'd never met an Advent Human before.

"That would explain the smell. I think the shinigami is hurt, I smell blood, too," the kuroneko nodded at his companion's explanation of the odd scent of the female combatant.

"Oh, dear. I hope he'll be alright...." The nekogami looked in Hikaru's general direction worriedly.

[338]

Hikaru Miyazaki.

The strange shinigami had issued him a challenge. It was pretty obvious to any observant spiritual being that the two had chosen to limit themselves, as their spiritual pressures from the beginning of the match were downright identical in force.

What sort of man are you?

Unbeknownst to either of the combatants or Adele Nameless, another brown skinned shinigami sat with eyes awash in blue. The Fourth Seat of the Mystics turned a piece of paper in between his fingers. His reiatsu signature was quiet; undetectable to both Reiatsu Noukan and the the nekogami's strange ears.

How do you fight?

Toride Satoru watched with both his eyes and his soul, empowered by the energies of Mage Eye. The human was proving to be quite a match for the young soul reaper. As each shot rang out, he saw the bullets race from the barrel of... whatever the hell the humans called those long-range things. Bangers? He shrugged both physically and mentally, throwing the question into the back of his mind for later perusal. The razor wind glowed blue through the smog, embracing the woman in their biting grasp.

Will you show me?

Midnight sniffed the air suddenly. "Satoru is here," he stated with a definitive nod.

"I don't sense him," Adele mewed softly in reply, eyes still focused in the general direction of the combatants.

"He could be hiding. I smell him. There's another heartbeat here, too," the tomcat replied.

The smaller grey cat beside him waved her tail thoughtfully in response,"Hm. I wouldn't have thought he'd be here, unless he was curious as well?"

"But why would he have interest in the brat?" The black cat retorted.

"I'm not sure, but he seems a little overeager. He did challenge this woman even though he doesn't know her. Maybe he challenged Satoru-san?" The grey cat offered.

"Hmph. I'd like to see that." Midnight's tail flickered behind him, stiff with agitation.

[128/466]

Satoru
Your reiatsu is undetectable but the cat can still smell you even if Adele can't. He also has better physical senses. No worries, though. They don't know where he is.

The hurt shinigami winced in pain with each step as her half ran, half jogged away from the scene. Then looking down noticed that he was leaving a thin trail of blood behind him, cursing softly, he tore of another small piece of his robe to wipe up the drops of blood. Then balling it up he threw it into the fog far in the opposite direction. "Your not gonna catch me easily, ya gun slinging bastard." the wounded warrior growled.

The young man continued running planning to loop around and retrieve his sword from where it lay. As he ran he formulated a small idea in his head, plotting it carefully. Hmm, I've got a present for you miss. don't get tangled up in it. he grinned maliciously. He stopped and abruptly whirled around, then began writing a familiar symbol into the air, pausing on the last stroke.

Then the grinning young man murmured carefully, "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat!" then he waited, feeling the bakudou's energy coursing through his body. This will be fun... For me! Hikaru thought, patiently watching her approach, thankful he was hidden by the fog.

question
How exactly do you shoot wind? I mean it is sort of intangible, and at such short range? just sayin.

Thanks for the tip. and I will message you around Thursday since i don't have my laptop at present. Reiatsu: 805

Stopping suddenly, Mouko crouched down to note the bloodied piece of cloth. A small smear from where it landed indicated it slid as it landed. The man had thrown it away to put her off the trail. She stood, reaffirming herself to finding him, when a haze of red intruded upon her vision.

Gasping first in surprise, then in pain, she remained frozen to the spot - every inch of her body compressed in a squelching agony - only able to swivel her eyes within their sockets.

Her teeth had clenched, grinding roughly as the pressure gradually tapered away, her muscles beginning to spasm with the pressure. As quickly as she dared, her energy began to gather about her. A low heat began to lick at her gut, spreading outwards like a raging fire that lanced across her entire body in a pain that was somehow more all-encompassing than the binding.

Trying to speed up the process, she frantically cursed the limiter banded around her arm.

To answer your question: when you create an attack from something that's otherwise hard to target, your reiatsu gives it a physical presence. This makes it tangible and, therefore, targetable. It'd be pretty one-sided if an attack couldn't be countered by any means, but even also try to remember that the Orpheus weapons are no ordinary guns! These things are made to fight spiritual beings, after all.

As for the short range thing, well... Mouko's Combat is comparable to your Kidou, so getting at least something off isn't out of the question. However, because of Mouko's lack of knowledge about anything to do with Kidou, she had no way of knowing that the spell would create multiple blades. She shot in the direction of the parted fog and managed to get one of them.

"Heh heh. Got'cha bitch." Hikaru grinned, watching her futility struggle against the binding kidou. "Now that I've got your attention, unwind as you tear out your own throat! Bakudou number nine part two, Hourin!" The boy shouted, feeling the weight in his hand as the orange tendril materialized and trailed to his target quickly binding her.

"try this on for size." he swung his arm up bringing her with it, then swung it around slamming her back into the ground preparing to repeat the exercise, in the other direction as he brought his arm up and over again. "I can't shoot you but, it doesn't feel so good on the receiving end, huh?" he spitefully called to her.

State of enjoyment: High.

I do believe I'm enjoying myself a bit too much.

Her energy squelched, a ragged cry of pain drawn from Mouko's lips as the tendril wrapped about her waist. Tears sprung to her eyes, and for a moment she feared she might black out.

Yet, instead, a low growl bubbled from the back of her throat. He was taunting her, enjoying the pain he caused. A flash of memory, the giddiness on the faces of shinigami who fought each other to the death within that twisted maze on Yonaguni Island.

An amber glow flickered in the Major's eyes, her energy rising in a low, humming tone. The agony spread freshly, the tears finally wrenched down her face. Then, with a cry of determination and pain and anger, the entire binding shattered.

Standing low, and crouched slightly, Mouko drew in short breaths. Then, a grim look overtook her. "My turn."

She reached low, grasping at her waist to retrieve what appeared to be a small tube. Fixing it to the top of her rifle, she holstered her pistol. With a high-pitched whine, she activated the Battlefield Illuminator, switching on its infrared setting. Gazing through the scope in the direction she heard the voice from - the outline of the shinigami's form came into view.

Without another word spoken, the same crack vibrated up her arm, another incendiary shot scorching the air as it bore down upon Hikaru.

Used Fuubi to break out of the bindings, the Battlefield Illuminator is locking onto the heat signature of Hikaru to let Mouko see through the fog. Overdrive has activated, which means Mouko receives a 10% boost to all her stats, including her reiatsu. The shot is 120 reiatsu in damage.

[ Fuubi ] - "Overpower"
When a human is restrained or bound and has been left with no other alternative, they can try to force their way out through sheer strength and raw reiatsu. This is dangerous for the user's soul, particularly against the demon arts. Such an effort requires at least 1.5x the cost of the restraint. If this cost exceeds the user's Fortitude, it causes severe pain to the user.

[Battlefield Illuminator]
An accessory that allows for better vision in low light areas, total darkness and in situations where the user’s vision is impaired due to extreme brightness (eg; fallout from a flash grenade). Usable for both in and outdoor operations, this tool is available as both a monocular as well as a gun-top attachment. Features three vision modes; night vision, infrared and polarized view. Specially designed reiatsu capacitors mean that this accessory doesn’t require batteries, as it works via the user’s spiritual energy!

Effect: Night vision allows the user to see in low-light. Infrared allows the user to see heat signatures. Polarized vision allows the user to see in extremely bright environments. Only one viewing mode may be active at any given time. Costs 50 Reiatsu per turn for each turn active.

"Hmph." he grunted as the advent broke through the bindings. Guess I'm back on defense. he grumbled.

Hikaru watched her place a strange tube on her weapon, and fire. realizing that whatever it was, was going to hurt he dodged out the way and crashed into his sword. Still stuck in the ground from earlier, drawing it he watched his opponent carefully, feeling from the change in her reiatsu that she was peaking, and probably mad.

"Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not that bad if ya get to know me." The sword mage walked quietly, towards her with a defensive stance. "But ya did kinda try and blow my knee out, with that crazy gun of yours." he called to her.

Nice
This sounds interesting, I think the match just got a little more fun.

With a low snort, she snapped at him. "That's why you taunt your opponents while putting them in agony, right? Save it."

Glancing briefly through the Illuminator, she quickly began to close distance, noting the stance of the man. Ducking low, she caught a glimpse of the man's outline through the fog. Snapping her pistol up with her other hand, she quickly leveled the barrel at Hikaru's feet.

"Boom." She muttered, squeezing the trigger. The round in her Grave-keepeR blazed from the barrel, packed with its hellfire contents. Yet, what the man couldn't tell was the extra payload the Major had packed the round with - the explosive devastation of Danger Close!

[ 112 / 1192 ]

Notes
Resonance 500/500

Hikaru is still kneecapped, so he's not gonna be outrunning Mouko any time soon. Closed distance, Grave-KeepeR is using Pyro Rounds and Mouko's augmented the shot with another Orpheus technique, Danger Close. The round's aiming for his feet, but even if he dodges it, he has to contend with the shrapnel. Output is 180 reiatsu.

[Danger Close]
Though heavier ordinance are available in the Armory, more often than not agents will be equipped with some kind of sidearm or carbine. Fast, effective and rugged, these weapons are generally the most suitable choice for any member of Orpheus working in the field. However, the functionality of this form factor comes at the cost of stopping power; something already at a premium when squaring off against Hollows and other spiritual foes. Still, never let it be said that Orpheus agents are lacking in ingenuity. While ammunition used by the Initiative already draw on the users reiatsu to enhance their potency, practitioners of Danger Close have devised a way to utilize the actual firearms unique composition as a medium for transferring spiritual energy into their shots.

In layman's terms, this technique allows an agent to overload their bullets with reiatsu, causing them to fracture and explode on impact, like a hollow-point round crossed with a hand-grenade -- flinging shrapnel over a small radius (about one meter). These detonations retain any special properties of the initial round. Each use of Danger Close costs the agent 1% of their reiatsu.

notes
Oh I know, wasn't planning on dodging it.
Reiatsu: 730
btw Mage Eye is still active.

Hikaru watched her slink towards him, and winced at her words Okay, so maybe laughing while she's in the kidou wasn't the best choice. It was kinda mean the shinigami regretted, then shook his head No, she tried blast my knee off, I can apologize later. a bit of taunting in battle is perfectly fine, within reason.

The sword-mage despite his thoughts, felt badly about his actions and almost didn't notice the agent draw her weapon again, and aim this time at his feet. Hearing the click of the trigger he swung his blade connecting with the bullet, he wasn't expecting it to explode and fell in his attempt to dodge the fragments. The warrior hit the ground on his back, and groaned as some of the few bits of metal had embedded themselves into his shoulder.

"Dammit," he groaned, "Guess we can't be friends huh?" he asked, feigning weakness to his opponent.
