Herr Tyr, Meister Lambone and FRAU BUNZ - Let it commence!

It was the little things in life that made each day special. A fast car without a complicated alarm and a brand new watch hiding in the glove compartment weren't little, but they did the trick nonetheless. For every red light, Chimatsuri Kenma sped past the flashing traffic cameras. In a sea of immovable traffic he zigzagged through the lanes to avoid using his brake pedal as much as possible. Staying still did him no good - it risked the police actually getting around to pursuing him.

Something rare as Kenma's generosity seemed to manifest in the distance. Only a few times before had he felt that sort of presence. Every fiber of his being down to his bones demanded that he turn around, but he had turned onto a one-way street with no cross-streets. Worse still, there was too much traffic for him to simply reverse until he could get away. By the time the terrible monstrosity whose name he had never bothered to learn became visible he realized it was too late.

"Ahh, shit," he muttered.

Coming to a skidding stop, the young man stepped out of his car. Learning directions had become lost to him without the aide of a GPS. Not only had he come to a dead-end of a one-way street, he was facing a large park that surely housed the source of the monstrous presence he'd felt. With a groan, he rubbed his forehead with the palm of his hand. Not even he could believe he was about to purposely engage another demon.
[259/259]

"Would it kill you to slow down? I'm having trouble dodging!" Okita barked at his enemy.

It was one of many insults Okita had paid the target Hollow, whom he had undertaken dispatching. None of them did anything to quell monster's ego or hunger, it was more of a ravenous animal with an occasional, intermingling consciousness. Its savage appetite had actually worked in Okita's favor, since had it been solely focused on ridding itself of him, he might've had a much more questionable time; shorter at the very least.

After launching the faux-desperate attack to drive Okita away, the creature turned and kept running. It knew, and Okita knew, that it didn't have to run from him but more of what he represented. The creature had heard many tales of its Hollowkin being torn to shreds by the Shinigami threat. No, Okita alone would have been enough of a threat, not gains far from its strength by himself, but behind him stood the threat of the entire Thirteen divisions. It would pay this creature the benefits of being "cowardly", using primarily hit-and-run tactics until it could find a meal. Still, Okita raked himself inside for accepting such a dangerous bounty alone.

As the Hollow turned down a narrowing one-way, he saw a human standing at the end, as if to face it. Not good, Okita didn't need the complication of amateurs when he wasn't even entirely sure he could contain the beast himself! Soon the warmth became clear though, the ache in his neck, the tingling on his skin: this man was also strong. Close to Okita's strength, no, maybe even a little stronger!

Still, he couldn't be useful if he got himself killed.

Miya walked the edge of the park inhabiting the body of her centuries old gigai, Urusaiko as she called it, looking for a patrolling shinigami. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted the horrible visage of the hollow skirting among the trees after a figure in the black uniform of the gotei. Screeching tires pulled her attention away from the creature momentarily and she watched as a human got out and stared in the direction of the beast. She glared down at the pink clothes her gigai seemed to favor, thinking once more of crushing the pill of the overly vocal gikongan. No, she was too useful.

Well, this would work better than nothing. The very same shinigami she needed to ask about getting a Senkaimon home looked to be yelling at the hollow. Methodically Miya began to jog into the park towards the mismatched pair and the stomapoda hollow. Her hand went to where her zanpakutou would be when she exited the body, her hazel eyes watched the hollow and the shinigami in their dance of death. Miya called out through the borrowed voice of her gigai, “Need a hand?”

[193]

Yellow and black eyes of a crustacean locked onto the human before the hollow, the beast's basic instinct was to devour above all else. However that want, no, need was being overpowered in the back of Snap's mind. He needed to ditch the parasite that pursued him. The persistent, lone shinigami had been on his tail for quite a bit now, and since he wasn't in anyway an easy meal, he wasn't worth the fight to eat, not when plenty of people in this city could be dieing and hanging around as easy targets. Snap had no time for drawn out battles and wound licking.

Much to his dismay, he was now faced with another road block, a powerful feeling human that looked as if he wanted to hold his ground against Snap. If that's what he wanted, so be it. The stampeding demon came to a halt, letting out several clicking sounds from his bug like mouth as he circled the man, sizing him up.

He'd make a nice meal if he could keep that death god at bay. Quickly, the mantis shrimp like hollow punched a bright red bala at the charging shinigami's feet as he turned his attention to the advent.

[206/206]

He had barely seen the bright red burst flare brilliantly and then fade out, immediately exploding the ground at his feet. Using probably only one of two or three Shunpo maneuvers he had managed to gain in the past months since graduating, he disappeared, leaping backward in a shower of rocks and pieced black pavement.

The destructive force was no where near a Cero and he had not ever come across a Hollow that could use Bala. He cursed under his breath since that made his dodge almost completely reflexive.

He knelt, worn just so from his lacking Shunpo proficiency, and turned to see Miya. He didn't know where the Human's allegiances were yet, though he suspected if it was either ally with Shinigami or be eaten, he might come around. That, and recent developments had made Humans a bit more open to cooperation between realms.

"Yeah," he said, heaving, "I could use a hand."

She wasn't as strong, that much he could tell but judging on how fast she got here after he signaled for help, she had either calculated the Senkaimon exit perfectly based on the chase, or she was fast enough to have made it here quicker than Okita could have hoped, if he was the one someone up.

His attention turned back to the Hollow, who now had nearly cut the distance between itself and human in half, with every step traversing more. He began his chant, hoping that something would happen to forestall the Human being a snack.

[253/537]

This thing punches explosion! Now that’s a neat trick, perhaps one you should learn. Kurobara smirked at the crimson shot that exploded forth from the mantis’ arm. The shot didn’t travel as far, as if the energy launched with the punch.

“On it, just... don’t be surprised if I don’t communicate. I can’t talk without this body!” Miya yelled to the strange shinigami that just dodged out of the way. If he heard, she didn’t notice. Explosions were prone to causing ringing in the ears after all.

A most wonderful idea struck the muted shinigami just then. The gikongan pill rolled between her fingers adeptly for mere heartbeats. Surely this would take exceptional timing, and a modicum of skill. Miya’s right had dropped to where she knew her sword normally hung. Focusing on her zanpakutou, her left hand began to pop the pill into the air.

“Inflict, Kurobara!” she cried out, swallowing the pill mid sentence. Out of the gigai shot the brown length of Kurobara led the way, tipped by three dark green barbed tines. Streaming behind came black cloth of her tattered shihakusho. Miya kept her eyes trained on the monstrous creature, yanking back on her whip to keep it looped and more mobile.

Without breaking eye contact the secret vizard signed back to her centuries old gigai with a flurry of her agile fingers, “Get back, but don’t stray too far. I may need to talk with him once this thing is dead.”

[246/439]

Notes
Slight BS to release her shikai so she's actually useful in the fight. Can't normally do it as she's mute. That also means that last line she signed back to her gigai was all a sign language that's unique to her social circle. Weeeee.

Weird sensations flooded Kenma’s head. Every little ping felt similar to what the masked demons exerted, but different at the same time. Even if one sensation had something to do with the other it was willfully ignored. That the tingling might have something to do with what looked like a pair of samurai engaging the beast was similarly lost.

Ultimately, all that mattered was that Kenma had done this dance before. With a brief blast of his own energy the twin cestuses appeared on his hands. Four metallic pops preceded the thumb and forefinger on each cestus extending out. As though he were the main character in his own action movie he began firing his steel finger-guns at the beast relentlessly.

Not for a moment did he pay any mind to the red laser blasts that the shrimp monster could produce, or the two samurai gathering just a few feet away. Weird mystic bullshit didn’t matter – on Earth, every problem humankind faced could be solved with a gun.
[167/426]

The large shrimp like hollow hissed in aggravation as the human's attack made contact with it's claws, Snap had thrown them up reflexively to guard his mask from the compressed spiritual pressure just in time. The energy bullets had left their mark none the less in the beasts claws, the exoskeleton cracked slightly from the blasts.

Perhaps this meal wasn't going to be as easy to get as the hollow would have liked originally, but that only meant that the human held more nourishment for the mantis shrimp. Rising up on a couple of his back legs, Snap let out another bala, this time aimed right for the foolish human before him while completely ignoring the two shinigami behind him.

[120/326]

The yellow-eyed Shinigami stopped his attempted chant and panicked.

Not gonna make it! I only have a couple of these left in me! Okita thought as he initiated his Shunpo.

In a blur of movement, Okita was almost instantly in front of Kenma to take the brunt of the Bala blast straight on. Instantly the sleeves on his robes were burned away, leaving his forearms, raised to guard, singed a little. The force knocked him off his feet and with a short, pained exhale, he could feel one of his ribs already cracked as he flew straight back toward Kenma.

[102/639]

In hindsight, a whip may not have been the cleverest thing to bring to this fight. Bone plates protected most of the hollow before her from clubbed arms to the curved tail. As Snap unleashed another bala, injuring the shinigami she had seen, Miya could feel her hopes of getting home slipping away. He dies, she stays stuck in effective limbo for who knows how long. That didn’t sit well with the secret vizard.

I need a soft spot, the hazel eyed shinigami scoured the behemoth before her. The hollow’s belly? Too inaccessible.

Go for the eyes! Kurobara hissed with glee, Oh how I want to hear this thing scream. Do that for me and I’ll leave you alone for a whole night if you get back.

When I get back, she corrected the serpent. They were correct, both voices. She locked onto the yellow eye stalks of the shrimp hollow. Her whip trailed behind her with a short charge. With everything she had, and hopefully some luck with the shrimp not looking her way, she lashed out the heads with a crack. One barbed spine sat ready to dislodge in the wound if she connected properly.

Ability used
Thorn
Paying 5% of her reiatsu, Miya dislodges a single barb into a target. This barb causes high levels of pain, and can also be used to renew the duration of Rose’s Kiss venom at no additional cost. If used to refresh Rose’s Kiss the barb falls out and regrows on Kurobara the following round.

With the looming threat of a laser blast zooming at him with terrible speed Kenma did the only thing worthy of his childhood heroes: he put his arms up in front of him in an X. It always worked for the cartoon heroes and he was dealing with something right out of a cartoon after all – the maneuver had to work!

What Kenma got instead was over a hundred pounds of crazy samurai. That force was enough to knock him right on his behind. Still, he had his wits about him despite the blow. Immediately he realized that if he couldn’t block a person he wouldn’t have been much good against a laser blast, but he’d never find out because of the wannabe hero.

“Are you fucking crazy!?” Kenma shouted as he forced the damaged reaper off of him. “If you wanted to be Superman you’re wearing the wrong costume, asshole!”

With a huff the vagrant turned his attention back to the mantis. Thanks to the reaper’s antics his nerves were a tad shaken. He decided he ought to take a more direct approach. Whatever the other samurai was doing wasn’t any concern of his as long as she wasn’t going to try anything stupid either.

After arrogantly knocking his gauntlets together Kenma made a wild dash at the demon. With all his augmented might he aimed to give its midsection an uppercut to remember.
[235/661]

The beast let out a terrible roar as one of Miya's barbs dug it's way into Snap's eye, quickly pincers flew up in an attempt to dislodge the painful thorn. Snap raised itself up onto a few of it's back legs as it struggled with it's damaged eyesight, just as another attack struck the mantis shrimp, this time in it's midsection.

The blow sent the hollow flying onto it's back, it's large, thick tail waving wildly as it tried to right itself quickly before it would have to take more hits. It's many thin, long legs moved together rapidly like a wave, hoping to keep others away from its belly.

[110/336]

Ha, yes, you got the thing! Listen to it squeal! Kurobara’s voices cackled with glee in Miya’s ear, By the way woman, you may want to get back. I would hate to die because you pissed this thing off.

Not a bad idea. She snapped the whip for a quick lash against the shrimp’s belly only to have it clink off the armored legs. The hollow wasn’t likely to be wounded by the thorns and now it would be guarding its one good eye. A short dash brought her to the side of Okita where she reached out to help him to his feet. The human was strong. Perhaps strong enough to buy them time to surround the hollow if not strong enough to defeat this creature on his own.

[130/569]

Agitated by the blow he had received, Okita welcomed Miya's hand as she helped him to his feet.

"Thanks," He offered, pushing aside his frustration to thank her through a graveled response.

The young man, clad in black robes, drew his sword. The distinct resonating *shink* of the blade being unsheathed seemed to creep under his skin, exciting him in a way he had not been privy to before. Deeply, his eyes penetrated the blade, until something was realized.

It was the most minuscule of fires that sparked within him, reaching back to the training he had been undergoing, just for this moment.

Brandishing his blade toward the beast, Okita felt the words scrawled into his mind where they had not been before. Nothing in his memory could have held such a precious and valuable thing as the words he now uttered.

Feeling a rush of power as he drew in a breathe, he exhaled it and muttered a single word beneath the word's strange relief, "Bleed,"

As he invoked the word, he could feel power draining, flowing. It smoothly warmed him; beginning from his chest, down his right arm and into his gleaming Zanpakuto. Amid the night, his first-ever Shikai release brilliantly illuminated the dark for a few moments. Until finally, the glow subsided, and he held a plain-looking wooden spear.

Raising his eyes, Okita's thoughts were also fed a name and returned it to the air; the nothing, from which it had appeared to come from.

"Ink Bottle Knight." He announced, feeling a bit of levity from his initial ire.

The rebirthed-Shinigami silently began to question his sword's new form while the human and Hollow began to move.

An overwhelming confidence inhabited Kenma as he approached the dazed monster. Rather than focus on Snap’s exposed abdomen he approached its mask with his gauntlets’ guns redeployed.

Take that.” Kenma put on his best English accent in delivering the quote.

Following the vagrant’s verbal victory dance he opened fire with both guns. In a scene worthy of a cartoon he’d stumbled onto the scene only to show a bunch of wannabe samurai how real heroes fought. If he wasn’t operating two firearms at the same time he’d have to cover his mouth to hold back his laughter. Everybody had always said that video games and cartoons wouldn’t get him anywhere in life – and yet there he was.
[117/778]

The hollow let out a bellowing howl as the human's attack hit its mark. Slowly, bit by bit, the beast faded from existence leaving behind its bone like mask to stare down the teen through empty sockets. The mask fell to the ground only moments later, breaking into a fine dust that was picked up by the air and carried off.

That’s it? After all of this, and the hollow dies that easy? Let me take over, I’ll show them a real fight! Kurobara was unsettled. More than likely not at the fight, but at the sight of the mask crumbling away before them.

In a fluid movement Miya sealed her shikai then sheathed her sword. Urusaiko lingered at the edge of the park, and was already running towards them. Before the chatty gikongan could begin her apparent rave of the fight, her owner pushed into the body. Out popped the toxic green colored pill, which Miya stashed in a pocket of the body.

“Well, that was easy enough. Nicely done with that whatever it is you did,” she declared to her two makeshift allies, to the human she nodded.

Turning towards the shinigami she smiled, “I’m Miya by the way, third division. My phone was lost, and I need to hitch a ride home. Care to assist a damsel in distress?”

[161/730]FINALOHPLEASELETITBEOVER

Smiling coolly, Okita gestured for Miya to follow.

"I'd be glad to," he said, having been given the return key for unseated officers.

He was disappointed to have released his newly obtained strength so needlessly. Although he was still grinning, he somberly thought, It's not enough. I have a long way to go still.

The robotics specialist turned to his new friend as he sealed his Shikai, returning it to its sheathe.

"We'll have to do something about him," he said, referring to Kenma, "A report to the covert forces should do, they can worry about whether or not to erase his memories."

"I'm Okita, by the way. Ninth Division. I hope to see you again, feel free to stop by if you ever need anything."

With the mission ending ungracefully, Okita was glad, since something had still been born from it. And, his new friend accompanying him, disappeared into the gate of light back to Soul Society.

"Glad that's over with," Kenma sighed. "Do you realize how many galges I could have played during all of this? How many heroines I could have conquered? How many of them might have rewarded me with (two-dimensional, implied, and censored) copulation in return? At least three! That's a minimum of fifteen girls! How many girls did I end up conquering here? Zero! What a waste of a day!"

He kicked the ground and cursed the divot of grass dislodged by his limited edition Mahohoho Santa Shoujo X3 Christmas Crusaders sneakers. They were only made for young girls, but he had little trouble mustering up the resolve to squeeze his man foot in them.

"And it's all your fault!" A glare shot out of his small eyes towards the grimly dressed guests. "And your Preach cosplay is all wrong! I'm out of here!"

And out he was, but not before one last shout.

"This was the worst LARP ever!"
