Over time Lucia Frey had realized that there were indeed upsides and downsides of having an extremely publicized taishuu. On the one hand, while the thrill of the event sufficiently reinvigorated her motivation, it did have a few unintended consequences. The pile of fan-mail on her desk was staggering at times. Most of them were congratulations, autograph requests, and paparazzi pics. However, mixed in were more than a few requests for personal training sessions and past that, outright challenges.

With a particularly large smile on her face, Lucia Frey stood outside in a particularly delightful Seireitei morning. This was her attempt to solve one of the two requests. While she knew that there was no way that she could truly manage to keep up with the training requests that poured in, she most definitely didn’t rob anyone of the chance to get some advice.

So this was her solution: a workshop in her signature style. Those who wanted to learn about melding the art of hakuda and kidou were welcome to attend. Fliers had been posted up throughout the assorted divisions. Messages and announcement had been blaring for the past few days almost constantly. By now, even she herself was sick of hearing about it.

A brisk wind blew over the empty training field behind the Fourth Division. The edges of her long haori fluttered back, dust brushing onto the hem. The black jacket she wore below her haori kept her rather warm, as did her usual pair of dark-blue jeans. She smirked to herself as she impatiently waited to see those who actually had the gusto to attend.

[253]

Gotten a few requests for hak training collabs. Mainly because of my time constraints, I'm better at keeping up with open collabs than a bunch of closed ones so it's honestly better for me like this.

Everyone is invited. Those who want to learn more about hak fighting, mixing kidou and hakuda, or even zan/other people who want to know what all the hak fuss is about or curious about Lucia's workshop are welcome to attend.

One of the first few to arrive was Ren Tegishahara, clad in the robe of the shinigami with slight adjustments. Typically, it wasn't ever a change from the average hakama and kosode they gave when you walked out of the academy. But today, she wore a haltertop kosode and hakama pants that didn't move around and feel so baggy like usual. They weren't tight, they were just right. And her zanpakutou, as always, remained on her shoulder, binded by a strap that ran across her chest. However, 'her' wasn't the right word for Ren's appearance. Like usual, the Koutaizumai ribbon on her left bicep allowed her to change her form, adopting instead the form of Ren-kun.

No matter what illusion it was though, she was smiling. A wide grin finally shown, a mask not hiding the features of the illusion and instead just hiding Ren's real face. She was going to be one of the shinigami who was going to be trained by Lucia Amaterasu-Frey. Captain of the Fourth, and publicly one of the fiercest Hakuda-Kidou practitioners. Practitioner didn't fit it right. Master did. Lucia was a master of the hand-to-hand combat skill and was a gifted woman when she mixed Kidou, more specifically, Chiyudou into it.

In the presence of someone she considered a sort of role model, a person to strive to become like, Ren was entirely happy with taking part in training. It may have left her bruised, battered and honestly, at the end of it, she might have hated life, but she'd deal with it with a pair of shades and a grin. "Lucia-Taichou, it's a honour to train with you." As calm as her words were, a maelstrom of joy and fangirlism raged in her mind, threatening to come out in the form of 'Oh my god, I can't believe I'm getting to train under you, thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!' but she kept quiet. That's what she was moderately okay at.

[324]

And yet another early bird was Toride Satoru, Fourth Seat of the Tenth Division. He was glad to see Ren present; with the recent influx of paperwork that had been accumulating during the Tournament, he hadn't had much time to talk to her since their initial training session. Notably, he did not arrive in his animal guise as per usual. Instead, he walked onto the training grounds of the fourth with an unusually dark look on his face. Questions danced throughout his mind, always spurring him to move even if it was backwards (damn Arcanists).

He remembered Lucia Frey from the Taishuu; he remembered seeing her body being torn apart and reconstructed all at the same time while she fought and eventually defeated the most powerful teacher he'd ever had. There was no way he was going to pass up this chance to figure out what made her so powerful, especially when she was catering specifically to his fighting style.

The Mystic took a deep breath and gave himself a single mental command.

Game face.

The brooding look was suddenly replaced with one of playful confidence. This was the look of a Fourth Seat, not an Inquisitive.

"Kitsune! Glad to see you made it," he called out to his fellow Mystic before turning his attention to Lucia. His stormy gray eyes swirled with the promise of things to come. "Thank you for taking the time to offer this training so soon. You have the thanks of both myself and the Tenth Division as a whole."

Another Mystic wandered in. This one had dark hair that brushed the top of her shoulders, purple-violet highlights glinting in the sun. Curious blue eyes took in the scene, lighting up in recognition of all but one of the people there. Smiling, the shinigami bowed politely. "You must be Lucia-sama. It's an honor to meet you. You have not only the thanks of the Tenth, but my thanks as well. I'm Adele Pierce." The nekogami was pretty sure she'd said her name right. It was still a little odd saying her given name before her surname, but that was how names were said in the West and her name was now very Western.

Purple cat ears lay flat against her head, rendered invisible by the periwinkle ribbon holding the top half of her hair in a ponytail. They twitched at the sound of Lucia's reiatsu. It had a nice sound to it. Sort of like wind chimes. Looking at her comrades, she greeted them as well, "Hello, Ren-kun, Toride-san," her smile held a little more warmth when she addressed the second 'man'.

There was murmuring from the bushes nearby, accompanied by the soft, tormented whines of an unwilling participant. There were urged whispers, and some more rustling on the leaves, until, finally, a slight yelp came from a woman who was unceremoniously pushed out from the bushes, almost stumbling to the path of earth right beneath her feet.

"There's no backing out!" The little brunette on the bushes mouthed at her as she looked back, a betrayed look nestled on the corners of her eyes. "Go go go!" she mouthed, pumping a fist in the air to motivate the healer.

With a betrayed frown, Ansherina looked away from the enthusiastic shinigami who forcefully took her out here, all the way from the infirmary. She was among those healers who had the combat potential of a potato. If there was someone in the Fourth who direly needed training, she was one of those. And she was here, bashfully wandering closer to the training grounds, farther and farther from the little demon of a shinigami who pushed her into this, closer and closer to the menace of a trainer they have for today.

"A-a pleasant m-morning, Captain Frey," she greeted as soon as she came closer to the crowd, the slight blush on her cheeks still visible, the warmth on her ears intensified by the nervousness that continually rose inside her frail form. "And y-you too, Officer Satoru," she spoke softly, giving a slight nod towards the direction of the officer mystic, then to the two others who came before her. The small Russian nervously shifted her silvery gaze around the others in the gathered crowd.

Nope. Nope. Nope. It looked like she was the only one here whose combat potential was cringeworthy enough to be pushed to this by another division member. Lucky people. And it did no good to her bubbling anxiety.

Suddenly, from behind the Healer Captain, an arm clamped itself around Lucia’s neck, resting softly on her shoulders. Then, without hesitation, Nana disappeared and appeared off to the side of where the rest of the unruly bunch of shinigami were gathered. Hands behind her back and with a faint smile harbouring extreme pride, the Blitzkrieg Captain – without her usual haori – stood at attention.

“Look at you!” she said perhaps a bit too forceful to anyone’s liking but hers, “Finally letting those captain-y hands speak for themselves! Now, I know I am terrible at hakuda but, I would at least like to learn a bit more about it in case I ever have to fight someone who specializes in it."

Falling silent for a bit, she gazed around for a bit. She sized up the various officers and non-officer members of the various divisions and they really were the youngest and least experienced bunch of shinigami she had ever laid her eyes on. That was probably a good thing, though.

“If you are going to have us practice, though," she continued, taking on some kind of abrassive posture, "I will have to decline unless you don’t mind me tackling these lessons with the back of my blade.”

As her sister’s hand collapsed around her neck, she instinctively spun around to face her. However, by the spun Nana was already far from view. She sighed with a slight grumble. Resigning herself to a much less dignified response, she spun back around to address the gaggle of shinigami that had shown up to her little workshop.

“You know, I’m pretty sure I’m just leading a Tenth training session. Mental note. Charge Adelaide. That aside, like fifteen brownie points to you Anshy!” she said to herself, with an affirming nod. Ignoring that chain of thought she returned to her reason for being here.

“Well, first off, welcome!” she announced with surprising pep and enthusiasm, “It’s nice to see who actual has the dedication to actually attend this. As you all probably know, this is part of my multistep process to help people learn what hakuda is all about. While everyone gets a flavor of it in the Academy, there’s actually startling few people who truly dedicate themselves to the art.”

Lucia began to hop on the balls of her feet in excitement. “Hakuda is, in my opinion, the purest form of combat. You fight completely with your body, and you’re capable of showing your true will with every move you make. It’s individual to every person!”

She jumped back to where a training dummy was set up. “For example, you can fight cunning tactician,” the medic began to rapidly jab at the dummy, her hand striking where each individual pressure points would be, “weakening down your target and keeping them always under control. However, at the same time, as a hakuda specialist, you might just be the kind of person who goes for the big move!”

The lavender-haired woman punched down with her open fist, her sheer strength crushing the dummy and cratering the ground below her with a single strike. She turned back around to face her students-to-be, “If you are a practitioner, you’ll express yourself every time you fight.” Her eyes trailed to Nana, “And if you’re fighting one, by the end of it you’ll know exactly who they are.”

She cleared her throat, “That in mind, I want to preface this training session. I can’t really teach you how I fight. It’s so tied to the way that I think and act that unless you were my exact mental clone, you couldn’t pull it off. What I’m here for is to help develop a style that’s unique to yourself. And to those of you who want to learn how to fight a hakuda user; hopefully by the end of this you’ll be able to figure out all the tips and tricks.

“But that’s me getting ahead of myself,” Lucia turned to face the shinigami gathered in front of her. She stepped forward, taking a ready stance, “I want to learn how each of you think. Coe at me whatever you’ve got! One move from each of you. Everyone, at once. Right now!

Adele blinked. Was this woman serious? Attack her? Here and now? The nekogami just didn't know what to do. This woman was surely stronger than her and would defeat her attempts before the young Mystic even got close. Then again, facing stronger opponents hadn't stopped her from trying before. Not with Satoru's Dragon's Breath, Tod's curse mark, Haresuno's overwhelming strength, or Masato's odd weapons. What was stopping her now?

Nothing. Nothing but fear stood between her and Lucia. Taking a breath, the kitten rushed at the Medic, aiming the heel of her palm at the woman's solar plexus. The worst that could happen was that her attempt would work and Adele already knew that it wouldn't, so no surprises there.

She won't hurt you too badly, kit. Crescendo reassured her wielder. Taking comfort in her swords words, the feline Mystic surprisingly didn't hesitate. "Kiiaaaa!"

Never the less, the nekogami couldn't help but feel this wouldn't end well. Here goes nothing....

[160/342]

When the group of future Hakuda practitioners arrived, Ren was shocked at who arrived. Satoru, Adele, a member of the Fourth and even the captain of the Third!

Ren pushed her surprise aside and listened closely to her teacher, her mind swimming in the knowledge obtained, even if it was stuff that any one person could've said. It was Lucia fucking Frey. Someone she looked up to as a hand-to-hand fighter and someone who wasn't completely deranged and wanted to just brawl with everything that moved. She was a sweet woman who led the Fourth, and she was a strong woman and God was she beau-

"Right now!"

Her body tensed and she snapped from any admiration and complimentary thoughts she had floating around in her mind to focus on the task at hand. How to express herself in the way of combat in one move. One singular move. How could she express herself in one move when she primarily used kidou to begin most of her hand-to-hand fights? Was kidou even allowed in this training seminar?

Without another word, Ren faded in a flashstep that brought her just to the left of Adele, her fingers straightening and her hand flattening as she aimed a swift attack to the noblewoman's ribcage.

[209/533]

So she sucked at hakuda, that much had already been a given. She had only ever been interested in the bare minimum, and even that was kind of too much for her to really get into. It wasn’t so much that she detested it, though. No, had this been another life, another time, then perhaps she could’ve one day learned to enjoy it to its fullest.

However, that time was long gone now.

She had honed her skills with the blade and, as she listened to her sister talk about the execution of hand movements, felt a kind of similarity pop up between hakuda and zanjutsu. Not so much because they were so alike, but because of what they incorporated.

Many people often saw zanjutsu as just a skill with the blade. It was so much more than that, it was an extension of one’s life, of one’s physical body.

That was why, as she watched the helpless little pups attack her sister with a fervour she hadn’t witnessed in quite some time, she smiled softly and somewhat eagerly as she kept her blades sheathed. She hadn’t come here to be taught a thing or two about how much she really sucked at hakuda but, at the very least, she could pretend to act like she did.

As her now fellow students attacked, Nana’s image began to blur in and out of existence, her reiatsu flickering from nearly dormant to capable of measuring itself with even the Soutaichou. Lucia must have felt it as well but, as with every single other person, could not ever hope to see it in action.

The grace, coupled with brute strength and raw power of Nana’s signature move: the Flash Blossom. She knew Lucia would probably be able to withstand, and even dodge outright, all of her puny little hakuda attacks but, she wasn’t here to win, she was here to give those little pups a fighting chance.

With an explosion of reiatsu, Nana disappeared from sight for only a split second before...

From the left, from the right, from above, even from down below her image reappeared in Lucia’s peripheral vision. There weren’t just a few of her, but ten of her, all aiming for various vital and non-vital parts. She was still smiling as she thrust, and chopped and slashed and sweeped.

All of this, while her blades remained sheathed.

[400]

So, Nana's hakuda is 1000. Nana used five Senka, attacking Lucia from ten different angles. Like she said in-character, she doesn't expect Lucia to even get hit once, but hopes that she can at least give enough of a window for these silly Mystic's to show their worth.

He noted Adele's presence with a note of interest. She and Ren seemed to be spending a lot more time together, so it only figured that they would both attend this lesson. However, when Lucia called for an attack, he focused all of his attention on the task at hand. The advertising had promised to show the participants how to blend kidou and hakuda, so Satoru felt absolutely no hesitation at using Kidou to augment his assault.

"Clay!"

The ground beneath Lucia's feat began to soften into slag, bringing her into the waiting embrace of the earth. After that, he flash-stepped toward her and aimed a vicious right hook right underneath her ribcage.

Clay
Clay - Bakudou #23, 200 Kidou

Description: The ground below the target grows soft, turning to mud. The mud crawls up the targets legs, binding them in place as if it were very thick glue. The mud continues to flow until it completely covers the legs (which takes one full round), it then keeps the target locked in place until they break free. Dispelling this bakudou will not withdraw the mud, it will only prevent it from climbing further.

Ouch. That could have killed a person. Though not amply skilled at how this hand to hand combat works, at least, Ansherina had enough medical knowledge that enabled her to discern the damage it could do to hit a shinigami at those parts. And that, coming from a hakuda master? Gods be gracious if that person still lived to see what hit him. And it was only the captain's last words that broke her from her reverie.

What? A...attacking a captain? But that is treason, is it not? She inwardly thought, eyes flicking to and fro from the captain. But then again, this is a training session, so it shouldn't matter... right? Right. That was what the Russian healer told herself as the trainees moved in to assault the captain from all sides. Right. And trusting that, the healer decided that while she did not have the strength that other possessed, she still had a little bit of her proficiency to mix in the stash.

"Forbidden hand formed of the soul, strike with the might of a titan," she spoke, allowing the film of reiatsu to engulf her hand. "Way of Destruction number twenty five, Breaking Palm!" Peach-colored reiatsu soon surrounded her knuckles, obscuring her tattoo and greatly enhancing the power those hands had. Well, it would have, if she had strength to begin with. Nonetheless, the healer disappeared from her spot, only to reappear at Lucia's side, hurling her closed fist at her forearm with a forward step.

[ 560 ]

“Whoa!” she exclaimed in surprise as her sister disappeared from view. While the others had started their attacks earlier, the sheer speed of the Blitzkrieg Captain surpassed each of them with ease. In a single move she calmed her mind, the world dilating and slowing as she focused on the oncoming barrage. Her mind ascended to the state of control that could only be achieved with the technique Go no Sen.

Snapping her head upwards she locked onto the oncoming attack, before ducking low. Without hesitating she transitioned towards the second. She contorted her body as the second attack appeared to her, seeming to halt for a fraction of time. Contorting her body further it only met air. The third appeared from behind, hitting her back with a powerful open strike. She was jutted forward, as she was shifted off balance. Rotating once more, she met the fourth strike with her own blow in response, deflecting it with ease.

A fifth strike hit the back of her neck, her head being pushed down by the force. However, she rolled with the oncoming strike, pivoting to dodge the sixth. A controlled breath exited her mouth, as she snapped her head, following the sevenths path. With minimal wasted moment, she knocked away the seventh, contorting once again to shrug away the seventh with her shoulder.

From her peripheral vision and from instinct alone she sensed the eight approaching from her side. She stepped back a fraction of an inch, the bare minimum required, as her sister’s hand jutted forward into the air. Another strike to her gut caused her to hiss in annoyance, as the ninth sucker punched her low. For the last she stepped forward once more, the final strike appearing to hang still for a fraction of a second giving her the window she needed.

While to her the entirety of the assault felt like hours, to the outside viewer it was nothing more than a few seconds at most. Her vision caught Nana’s reappearance far behind; however; she did not dwell on it for long. Instead, she shifted her attention to the assortment of shinigami in front of her.

The heavy mud of Clay began to climb rapidly around her shins. With minimal effort she shrugged off the attack, exerting reiatsu in response to suppress the bakudou. Her own reiatsu shattered constrictive energies in turn. She first turned to deal with Adele, her hand already rising in response to the oncoming strike. “Aggressive and agile. Tangent!” Her left hand shone with white light, as it traced an arching barrier into the air.

The cat-eared girl’s strike was caught, the repulsive effects flinging her back with a skid. That was two down, three left to go. Why do they always go for the side? she mused to herself as she snapped back into her state of awareness. “Katsujinken!” she called out, as her subordinate approached. She reached forward to grab the healer’s wrists, in a quick moment diffusing all the momentum and bringing the strike under her control.

Tenchinage!”

Against her will, Ansherina was wrenched from her spot, the entirety of the momentum being transferred along. She twisted her body to where Ren and Satoru approached, in turn forcibly dragging the first girl along. With her immense physical strength, she pulled her along with ease, using the Russian to knock the remaining two Mystics away with a single swing. The three tumbled together, as they were all thrown onto ground.

Wrenching her feet out of the muddy ground, she remained standing. “Wondering why I asked you to do that? It wasn’t because I wanted you all to get a few potshots on me, but it was mainly for me to figure out each of you guys out.”

She spun around, first turning to face her sister. In a staggeringly sarcastic voice the medic began to speak, “For example Amaterasu-taichou is a bad listener. One strike sis. Not ten.” She waved her hand, “Then again, each of those strikes were carried your trademark confidence and unmatched skill, even though I know you’re not a natural hakuda practitioner. Safe to say, if you had decided to use your sword, things would have gotten messy quick.”

Twirling back around, her lavender haired created a long arc in the air. “Mystic Satoru! Bakudou against a hakuda specialist isn’t always a best move. When we fight, we want to ensure that we’re free to move. That’s why we’ve developed and used techniques to thwart bakudou and anything that seeks to bind us,” she reached down, offering her hand as she lifted him back up.

“That being said, your kidou choice was cunning. Even though I was capable of dispelling Clay’s growing effects, I couldn’t do anything about the mud. Shows you’re the cunning type!”

She extended her hand down once again, this time offering it to Ansherina. “Sorry about my response, but I didn’t want to get hit by that Breaking Palm. Don’t want to cast Lacuna Release this early. If I recall correctly, you’re not the biggest hand-to-hand fighter. Remember I just said one move, never said it had to be a melee strike. You’re good at kidou, you should really use your skill to your advantage! A little more confidence would go a long way!

The noblewoman gestured towards Ren, extending her hand to the man. “Fast, accurate, and seemed to be the most controlled of all strikes. It’s a good quality to have as gun-ho brawlers are pretty predictable and easy to deal with. You’re a bit of a puzzling one in all honestly. Your hit seemed so... neutral in a way? Almost textbook if I had to classify it somehow.”

“As for you Miss Pierce,” offering her hand to the girl, “Didn’t dwell on it much, did you? Quite the gutsy type aren’t you? You should be a bit more careful. Personal experience, also known as running straight at the Soutaichou, has taught me that it’s good to remain cautious. That and shouting while you attack makes it a bit obvious that you’re approaching.”

Breathing out, she felt rather satisfied with herself. “Like I said, you can learn about a person when you fight hand to hand against or even with someone. But I don’t want to keep prattling on for too long, it’s your turn now. When you all attacked me, did you keep an eye on what the others were doing?”

Lucia pointed at Ren with one hand and Ansherina with the other. “Ren, what did you learn about Anshy from her attack? Likewise, what did you learn about Ren, Anshy?” She pointed at Satoru and Adele, “Same with you two!”

Stepping back she moved closer to Nana, whispering something under her breath. “I’d ask them to do the same to you but I don’t think any of them had a chance to see anything.”

Like Ren expected, none of their attacks really hit for much. The Blitzkrieger captain, Nana, scored a few, though no one really saw them. To everyone else, atleast from Ren's perspective, she saw Lucia basically defending against air. It actually scared her if Lucia could stand against the fastest captain and dodge some of her hits at that breakneck speed. What would've happened if Nana actually used those blades?

Ren didn't have all that much time to think about that when Ansherina was used as a club to hit her and Satoru. Yes, an actual club. Lucia Frey beat Satoru and Ren with someones body. Ren was sent flying back, skidding on the ground beside Satoru from the impact. She slowly stood up as Lucia began breaking down how they fought, one by one. When Ren was the one explained, she faintly smiled behind the ivory mask. Controlled, fast and puzzling. That sounded about right, she figured.

But how did Ansherina fight? She was to explain how Ansherina's attack went and what she learned from it. All she learned to be completely honest was that the medic made a great bat to hit people with. But that was Lucia's attack, not the other medic.

"I would say that Ansherina-san prefers to use kidou as a main way of combat. Just like Satoru and I," she gestured to the afrogami. "Ansherina-san prefers to let kidou be her primary method of combat. She's intelligent in her use of it, however, since Breaking Palm is a Hakuda based Hadou and it is deadly if used correctly. With the use of Breaking Palm," she inhaled. "I'd say she prefers to end a fight or incapacitate someone immediately instead of drawing out a fight."

Adele blushed at Lucia's description of her attack and smiled sheepishly. "I'll keep that in mind, Lucia-sama, yelling probably wasn't the smartest thing."

Looking at Satoru she pondered for a moment. Based on his attack, what kind of person was he? What kind of fighter was the Fourth Seat? "I'd say Toride is a tactician when it comes to hand to hand combat. He probably prefers to figure out what angle he can strike from to cause the most damage. He's also probably a kidouist, since Toride-san utilized bakudou to assist his attack... but since he didn't use a hadou, Toride usually thinks before he acts." The verbal jab in that last phrase probably wasn't that subtle, but couldn't be traced back to the fight in the rainforest too easily. Bakudou against a Hakuda specialist wasn't the best idea, as their instructor for the day had just said. So really, who was to know she wasn't referring to Lucia's comments rather than Crescendo's lovely opinion of the male Mystic?

Nice one, kit. Crescendo smirked. She was still angry with the male Mystic.

Lucia's response to Nana went completely unnoticed as the exchange was too fast for him to comprehend. Instead, the Mystic's eyes widened in shock as the Healer swatted him away with another Healer. Such a display of brute strength was still incredibly disorienting coming from a woman who appeared so modest in terms of muscle mass, but he had seen her do much more during the fight for Captaincy.

As he was getting up, he heard Lucia's question to him. What did he learn about Adele from her attack? Her fierce commitment to that single attack revealed... no, reminded him of a lot about his apprentice. No hesitation, no reservation; she held nothing back when it came to her sparring. It was like that during their first sparring session all those months ago in the training dojo. Satoru closed his gray eyes for a brief moment, containing the storm within before opening them with a hint of the mental clarity that he was attempting to regain.

"Well, Lucia-taichou, there's a problem," he responded ambivalently. "Adele was my first student and the most capable Mystic that I have ever trained. I didn't see anything from her today that I haven't seen before. She's headstrong, determined, and sometimes just a little too eager for her own good..."

Satoru turned his eyes toward Adele and locked eyes with her before responding with a hint of humility, "But that is her greatest strength.
It's the reason she survives her lessons with me. She puts her all into everything she does, both in training and in battle."

With all that had happened upon his coming back, Ole had lost track of the activities he was supposed to take part into. Just the day before, he had bee informed that he was supposed to train with the Sixth Seat, Tawabara Udo, and the day before Ayame stressed the importance of a medical evaluation he was suppose to submit to at the Fourth Division’s Headquarters. How possible was the Russian supposed to read the small note that Nevada had slipped under his door?

Hey Ole,
My sister Ren - do you remember her, don’t you? – said there is something going on at the training field behind the Fourth Division with Lucia Frey-taichou herself.
Why don’t you sweep by?
Nevada

The signature was accompanied by the draw of what looked like a smiling rabbit, so the blonde mathematician knew that the message was authentic. He folded the note back and tossed it on the table, making a mental note to thank the tiny shinigami properly at the first occasion. Then, he rushed to reach the location indicated in the message. The distance was not great, but Ole was going to get there late anyway.

The blonde mathematician heard the vigorous movements and shout of a fray well before reaching the designated place. Everybody seemed intentioned to gang together on the Captain of the Healers, although she did not appeared worried at all. Between them, there was also the Sanbantai no Taichou, which was the only one that did not attack. Or did she? The Russian blinked peeved, for Nana-taichou had moved, but the one-eyed monk had surely not been able to follow with her speed. The rest of the group was mostly composed of member of the Tenth that Ole had already met in other occasion, some of which he would even call friend.

When Lucia had stopped talking to the others, Ole drew near to the edge of the training ground closer to her.

“Ohayou Gozaimasu Shibantai no Taichou!” the Russian said aloud with his best Japanese, hoping to catch the attention of the teacher. The blonde mathematician had practiced as much as he could, and he could state without seeming vain that it had improved by a great deal. “I know I’m late,” he said switching back to English, bowing as a form of excuse, “but I would like to participate myself in this workshop of yours, if you would be so kind as to accord me such an opportunity.” After a moment he decided to add, “My hand-to-hand combat proficiency had remained at the level of a freshman at the Academy, anyway...”

She was gonna lie if she said it didn't hurt. A slight throbbing rose from her leg as soon as she landed, almost rolling on the earth as all hope for balance was lost. Thoughts were muddled on her head, apparently unable to concentrate on a single line of thought. Everything happened so fast, and all the healer could manage to make out of the situation was that she was turned into a living club... and that they all crashed to the ground. She had random thoughts, like Satoru having trust issues with Ansherina being kidou-capable and within his range of vision, thoughts of Lucia having imaginary tentacles (Honestly, how did she manage to fend off all of Captain Amaterasu's attacks?), and a lot more other things.

Though hurting in the spot, the small healer scrambled to her feet and patted the dust off from her uniform, still racking her brain of what exactly to say about the mystic.

"I, um, well, I think I failed to see what mister Tegishahara did. He um, disappeared from his spot before I could even catch a glimpse of what he was about to do. If there was anything I could deduce from this situation..." Ansherina took a quick glance at the mystic and gave off a smile before continuing, "I think as if mister Tegishahara does not want his opponent to see him coming. Quick and elusive. If he was any more proficient with the art, I feel as if it would be safe to say that he would not allow his opponent to see what was coming for them."

Ansherina had been tense, ever since the training session began. It felt like she was the weakest one here, and that feeling gnawed at the pits of her stomach. Oh, they had no idea how inwardly delighted she was with Ole's appearance. It was as if she finally had someone of her own level around with them in this training. With a moment of acknowledgement, the Russian healer gave a slight bow to the acquaintance of a spellblade who had once gone past their halls.

A smirk appeared on her face. “Good answers, all of you. It might seem like a really trivial exercise, but being able to figure out your opponent’s and your ally’s fighting technique is one of the most important tasks for a hakuda fighter.” Lucia raised her arm, balling her hand into a fist and holding it laterally to her chest. “Unlike zanjutsu, there is no buffer between you and your opponent. And, unlike the metal of a blade, skin is rather easy to cut through, outside of a few techniques. If you misjudge a target, you’re going to be in trouble.”

Her speech was cut off for a moment, as she turned her head towards the newcomer, “Oh more! Yay! Feel free to join in.” She cleared her throat, deciding to speak English to the Ole, “Lucky you. You missed probably the most painful part of the training so far.”

She nodded to the spellblade before turning back towards the rest of the group, “Now where was I... Right, reading your opponent. I assume even if you’re not natural hakuda practitioners, you’ve heard of the technique known as Sekkinsen? If not, it’s the core technique hakuda practitioners possess to minimize damage to their body.” The noblewoman began to hop on the balls of her feet, before ducking and weaving between invisible strikes, “You read your target, calculate your move, and execute the action with the least wasted movement to dodge.”

Straightening her body once again she continued, “A technique like this would be impossible without possessing the ability to read an attack on a fly. Get used to this strategy because I’m going to be drilling it into your minds by the end of it.”

Jumping back suddenly, Lucia began to announce her next exercise, “Afro-boy, Ansherina, with me! Ren, Pierce, New Guy over there!” She began to stretch, preparing herself. “We’re going to kick this up a notch. This time, each team is going to attempt to attack the other on my count. We’re all of varying speeds so the first one to reach gets to attack, while the other must block, or counter, or dodge. Each team is not allowed to tell their teammates who they’re going to attack. Instead you must read the actions of your team members and make a decision accordingly.

“Not only that, the defending members must try to figure out their other teams attacks and respond proportionally. However, at any moment, I’ll reorganize the teams as I wish. At that exact moment swap teams and reformulate your attacks and responses! The point of this is to get you guys to increase your guys ability to parse what multiple people are doing at once. Kidou, zanjutsu, hell even zanpaktou releases are okay if you have them approved!”

An excited glint in her eye signaled her next move. Her body shone a brilliant white light, as the runic markings of Fusei materialized up her left arm.

“Ready? Go!”

She flickered from view, her body blurring in a flash-step. Almost instantly, she appeared next to Ole, her palm open, as she extended violently towards his stomach, only barely holding back her titanic strength.

Summary of the next exercise.

Lucia has intitally assigned two teams.

Team 1: Lucia, Ansherina, Toride
Team 2: Ole, Ren, Adele

On her mark, the two teams are to attack. The 'speed' of the incoming attacks is based mainly really on turn order honestly but feel free to bend it how you wish. It's pretty much a back and forth of attack and counter. However, when Lucia calls it, she'll swap the teams around freely. They might not even be balanced. Like she said, feel free to use anything you got. The purpose is teaching how to read and react to your opponents and ally's moves.

When the teams were announced, Ren smiled softly. She was paired with her closest friend and Ole, her sister's friend. This was bound to get fun. They were to defend and attack, and Ren was going to do her damnedest to do that. So when Lucia came in to attack Ole, Ren was right there with the first drastic step of 'countering' someone's attack.

"Hadou number thirty-three, Soukatsui!"

Arcane flames erupted from her hand and screamed towards the group. However, they weren't directed at Lucia. No, such a thing would roast Ole as well, and she was supposed to defend her team. No, the blue magical fire instead threatened to engulf 'Afroboy' and Ansherina in a fountain of beautiful fire. She only hoped Adele would've taken care of defending Ole for the moment while she tried to handle the other two.

"How delicious. The three strongest out of the group right off the bat trying to beat us? When's my time to shine coming, sweetie?" the vampiric spirit asked, a fanged smile worn on her beautiful face. Ren kept quiet, her free hand reaching behind her shoulder to grip her wakizashi. There were no words otherwise, but Kyuketsuki knew within the next few moments, she'd be released.
