A Whole New World

Would you be interested in writing for a collab centric RP?

after reading the discussion here and thinking more closely about it, i think i'd probably change my vote to a 'no'. it was initially a 'yes' because of the possibility of writing with the same authors but in a different setting. i also like certain aspects of world-building, which is why i got into D&D. anyway.

it's true that our current setting is incredibly malleable, to the point that we've got somebody summoning groups of mechanical gun-toting idols. a secondary RPG is, frankly, largely unnecessary without the existence of an overwhelmingly-rotund member base. of course this inevitably leads into the discussion of getting newbies, which then ends up with the statement "well we need a banner so we can advertise". so how 'bout dat photoshop?

Yeah, at first I was going to emphasize why I disagreed with Katie. Hiren clarifies her point really well. So my accidental "no" turns out to be an intentional "no" in the end. XD

Well then, kind of reneging on the point I intended to make, I think HD is fine. I think a new concept might initially generate some creative juices but the devil is in the details. Another dissenter is defeated by the establishment!

Maybe part of the problem is that so much happens in chat and a lot of the details are never made apparent unless you read everything.

Or are in chat all the time.

Like all the things Hiren described: plot is extremely active and diverse right now. There is more cohesive plot with far more player impact than I believe the RP ever had before. You talk about recycling old plot, but aside from some of the unusual time-warpy stuff with the Zeitgeist Avatar Aver, a lot of the old plot was kind of a retread of Bleach proper, with an invasion of Seireitei followed by war with the Espada. I know that's oversimplifying things, but it's what it boiled down to.

What we're trying to focus on now is not so much "us good, them bad," but more about the relationships between the various factions, with some good old-fashioned enemies on the sidelines egging things on (intentionally and non). So there are big bads, and they're bad news, and good luck figuring out how to deal with them when you have everything around you descending into chaos.

Again, though, there aren't really any threads talking about what all's happening, so you need to read to realize what all is going on.

and therein lies part of the problem I think. You have to read ALL the RPs and in doing that you might not even still get a clear understanding. I think a thread explaining what's going on, or at the very least stating objective and what has been completed and a basis synopsis of the overall shtick is crucial to the way this all works out. Not everyone has the time to sit and read tons and tons of stuff. I guess you could liken what we need as a sort of "Quest Log" from an RPG video game.

I voted "no" simply because I'm content where we're at (other than no new RPers). "Occam's Razor" ... just learned what that meant; had to use it at least once.

...so yeah, no real drawn-out thoughts on the matter. That's just me.

Or you could pick a couple top tier/faction leaders to read. I guarantee almost everyone reads a chap Will puts out w/ Sayis in it, and maybe all AH read Orph or Cerb leader chaps.

While originally stating no, is it a bad thing that I've started to think of a similar system to HD that could be utilized for a Harry Potter sort of world with regular time skips? (only so you don't need to wait a full 7 years to graduate)

Base Stat:
Arcanum - Total Magical Strength
Sub Stats:
Alchemy - Combination of potions and Herbology know how
Impetum - Offensive spells, charms and the like
Praesidium - Defensive spells, healing would likely be in here as well
Utilitas - Transfiguration, charms that are neither offensive or defensive
Fuga - Speed / dodging stat. Used for flight control.
Temperare - Over all control a person has. This one is... debatable as it's rather like harmony and the like.

PM every three months or so that acts as the transition to a new year for people. Let them choose between Hogwarts (the obvious favorite), Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons. After "Graduating" characters can move on to the ministry, become a teacher, etc, etc. But only if they have sufficient skill in their stats to get those infamous OWLS and NEWTS. Hell, allow re-rolling to students that are simply exceptionally gifted (to a point, so there's no Sayis level 1st years for example).

Whelp, that's my random thought I opted to write down.

/work

While I really like the idea, you do realize this would eventually mean people will have to switch characters due to age?

Obviously it'd still be a shitton of pms before that happens, but do you think people would enjoy playing a character past a set amount of years?

Eh, maybe they do, who knows. I do like the idea like I said, though.

Not necessarily, I mean look how old Dumbledore was when he died. So entry level would be age 10 or 11 for all characters in first year, add a year to the age for subsequent years. Even if it was a mini-PM every 2 months, that's over a year for people to start graduating.

Wouldn't that be altogether more limited in scope?

Unless you have every member breaking all the rules, and suddenly more monsters and dark wizards than you can shake a wand at, most of the writing would be limited to learning new spells and playing around.

Certain things make for great stories, but not everything makes for a great multiplayer game.
