So I've been talking about Job Corps forever. Well, the past month, I've been talking to the associates there and the people I needed t o so I could work out when I go there and what I need to do. Today, I got a call from the Cass Job Corps center's staff telling me that on June 17th (next Tuesday) I'm to be sent to Job Corps.
Now, Job Corps is a year long program, maybe less or maybe more depending on how fast I pick up on stuff. It's sort of like a program that helps young people (16-24) learn how to perform the job their looking for (mine is culinary, so I'll learn how to prepare fine meals and such) and if they lack an educational degree such as a GED or High School Diploma (like I do) then they can work for that. On top of it, it offers housing, food, etc etc free of charge. They actually pay YOU to attend. It's an amazing program but it has some minor drawbacks.
The first being that there is no free wifi. The only wifi they allow is for online courses and stuff you'd need to do in school/career training. Which means I won't be bringing my laptop. Which means I won't be here for an entire year except for the summer (two weeks from the 17th, I can come back for 2 weeks. I'm probably going to poke in here then. Same with December/early January)
The second is that I'll be attending the advanced training if I qualify for it. That means when I graduate from Job Corps, I'll be flying to San Francisco to learn from the best Job Corps has to offer, if not the best America has to offer. I may even move there permanently if possible.
I wish I could bring my laptop.
I might if there's a place nearby I can go to to write for free wifi like a McDonalds or something, but that'd only be on the weekends maybe. I might bring my laptop the first two weeks and see how that plays out. If not, then you won't see me until next summer. Which sucks huge huevos.
I'll miss you guys. For almost a year, this place was an awesome place to come to write, have fun, goof off and make new friends.
And I'm hoping most of you will stay with HD until I come back. If not, I'll stalk ya'. :3
