Satori was not one of the fastest shinigami in Soul Society. In fact, he believed he was one of the slowest.

Somewhere halfway through, he had lost sight of Ishin and was lost for a moment, before he felt the captain’s reiatsu, close to the point where they had started their chase. Are you kidding me, are we going round in circles?

Turning around, Satori started to run through some side alleys and headed to a small park in the distance. If only he could walk in the air, he just would jump from house to house and cut the way short. The way he was, though, the only thing he could do was run as fast as he could.

Thus, he arrived at the park far too late. Or not, considering that he was a healer and that it was not such a good idea to stand in the middle of a field when the fight started.

Grasping for some air, he saw that a hollow had charged at Ishin. Shit!

“When the loneliness gets to real, when the pain gets to much, reach out towards safety and lose yourself in my embrace. Chiyudou number thirty-one, Safety Bind.”

Long thin sheets were formed out of his reiatsu and started to wrap themselves around Ishin’s body.

Breathing in deep, he started to run some steps away again and waited for his comrades to arrive. No one had told them to use this spell only for healing purpose and he had planned to cast this on each of his team members. Sure, those sheets were not tough, but they would protect them, even if only for some seconds.

come, come everyone, get your bandages here. its free and wont hurt.

Safety Bind - Chiyudou #31, 280 Kidou

Description
: Reiatsu is formed into long thin sheets that can be wrapped around the body like bandages. While these reiatsu bandages only last for half an hour per casting, they have an added toughness that will protect the area from minor damage.

Incantation: When the loneliness gets to real, when the pain gets to much, reach out towards safety and lose yourself in my embrace. Chiyudou #31, Safety Bind.

“It isn’t your fight!” she shouted as the Captain exchanged idle threats with her and then chased after the scion targeted by the younger shinigami. She groaned as he leaped into battle, and as he did her wrists burned all the worse, the pain growing harder to ignore. She couldn’t outrun him, but throwing in the occasional flash-step to gain lost ground Adelaide managed to not lose track of Ishin. If she could keep close enough, she wouldn’t need to fall back on her Mystic talents.

As she ran, she also came to a conclusion – she needed Ishin. Ishin stuck his nose into someone else’s business. In order to accomplish her own goal, she was going to have to flash-fry that business someone else was conducting. She was going to have to take out the Scion for the three young’uns in order to cross blades with the Captain, which seemed more and more like the destined resolution to their conflict, since he didn’t seem like he was going to be particularly helpful and Adelaide wasn’t particularly interested in playing nice.

This lack of desire to play nice manifested in the noticeable fact that when Adelaide arrived in the park, she didn’t have a katana anymore, but a scythe of black with a silver edge. This scythe glistened in the light and, to those sensitive enough to note it, the scythe thrummed quietly with the power of an imbued kidou. Adelaide meant business, and she didn’t much care whose business it was.

“Oh you have got to be kidding me,” Setsuna sighed from his perch atop a street lamp just above Satori. He’d gotten to the park just in time to watch Ishin’s short exchange with Adelaide. Calmly drawing Senshin, he spun the short weapon around as he observed the black scythe in the Mystic’s hands. He cast his eyes down to his own weapon.

Be nice if we had something that flashy, don’t ya think? His only reply was a long rasping sound inside his head. Suit yourself. He strummed his fingers on the blade as the usual single character seemingly scribed itself onto the blade. Shaking his head, he squatted down and waited for what came next.

“Are you serious right now? There is a hollow trying to rip me apart and you want me to bother with your incessant need to be the center of attention? Why, do you not have enough to worry about at the moment? Ok, how about this. We get rid of this hollow, then we can talk about the consequences of you drawing your weapon on me. I prefer not to have to be to strict, especially since that might cause a little bit of unwanted friction between myself and our mutual friend.”

Ishin turned back to the creature facing him. Ishin was perched on top of a light post, his back to the others. Instead of attacking right away, however, he hesitated, his hand inches from drawing his own blade. After a few moments of this, however, his shoulders sagged. His arm relaxed and took on a more comfortable pose. Turning his back to the hollow, he faced the other four shinigami present.

“You know what? Fine. You are absolutely right, Adelaide. It isn't my fight. It is theirs. So, they need to get to it. I will only interfere if it looks like it is absolutely needed. Now then, get to work.”

The hollow, sensing an opening, made a move to escape. It would hide, and then bide it's time until it was stronger. Strong enough to take what was rightfully its own. His. HIS. SHE WAS HIS!

Satoru managed to catch up with the dynamic duo just as he watched Adelaide draw her weapon. For a short moment, he could only watch in horror as Adelaide appeared to be threatening the Warden with her scythe.

Why the hell did you just draw your weapon against a Captain? And not just any Captain, but Lilith's boyfriend of all people? Satoru thought with an evident amount of concern towards the Lieutenant. Are you out of your mind? Has the Scion gotten into your head already?

He had never seen her release before and caught himself wondering what sort of power her soul slayer held. Before his train of thought could get too far gone though, the Hollow made a move toward the Captain. He wasn't entirely sure what the beast was up to, but he launched himself into a shunpo toward the beast then started to chant as he gathered spiritual energy into his palm.

"Thor's pride springs forth from me. The power of the skies gives me strength!" Satoru declared while he aimed his palm toward the Scion. Electric energy crackled around his forearm, then surged toward the cowardly beast as the Mystic shouted, "Hadou Number Twenty-Three, Raigen!"

[200/884]

“What the hell are you even doing here, Katsuji? I came here to find you,” she held up a finger to ask him to wait and lifted her hand idly, “Subjects of fire, dance. Hiashi.” She sounded so lackluster and unenthused when she said it, but it didn’t really matter how much passion she lacked, the shimmering circle still erupted into horrible fire and Hellflame-induced destruction around the Scion. She was spoiling for a fight and lighting the kind of fire that could burn down forests was a good start.

She heard the scolding from her Fourth Seat and decided it was necessary to answer him with a directed remark to the Warden. “When you were imprisoned, I believed in you. I was certain of your innocence. And you nearly killed my oldest friend, and you slaughtered people who trusted her. People who trusted me. You butchered my safe haven and I have very little patience for that, Captain.” She hadn’t been certain before, she hadn’t seen it happen, she hadn’t been there to know. She had presumed his innocence. Maybe the Scion was influencing her?

But the burn on her wrists made her distrust Katsuji Ishin. Something was wrong. Something was foreign. It was like when they first resonated to her reiatsu – something unwelcome was influencing Katsuji Ishin’s bankai. It had to be. Right? It certainly couldn’t be Adelaide that was compromised, could it?

She made another lazy hand-motion toward the hollow, compounding the flames, "Part two, Hiashi no Hari."

Hellfire Hiashi
Hellfire
A purely Hadou-enhancing ability, Hellfire allows the casting of Hadou at an additional 1.5 times Reiatsu and Kidou cost for a corresponding 50% boost in spellcasting area, power and/or duration. If used with the chromatic fire Hadou or actual Fire-based Hadou, the cost is two times and enhancement is increased to a full 100% power boost. In addition, Hellfire adds a cosmetic effect: the area both around Lashiel and around the target smell strongly of sulfur.

Jumon Zoukyuu [Spell Augmentation]
Deeper studies into the demon arts have granted insight into the fluctuations of reiatsu and how to adjust them while still achieving a desired result. In this way, the user of Jumon Zoukyuu can increase the effect of a spell by increasing the amount paid in, within the limits of their understanding and the spell itself.
To use Jumon Zoukyuu, the caster spends the total spell cost plus an additional 2% of their kidou stat per tier of kidou.
Ranks 1-30 = Spell Cost + 2% Kidou Stat
Ranks 31-50 = Spell Cost + 4% Kidou Stat
Ranks 51-70 = Spell Cost + 6% Kidou Stat
Ranks 71-90 = Spell Cost + 8% Kidou Stat
Ranks 91+ = Spell Cost + 10% Kidou Stat
This technique uses the natural rank of the spell and is not affected by abilities that lower or increase the effective rank.

Hiashi (Spreading Fire) - Hadou #16, 120 Kidou
Description: A luminous spell circle appears on the ground, 2m in diameter. This spell is best used beneath a target's feet. A fiery pillar erupts from the circle up to 5m into the air.
Extension: Hiashi no Hari (Determination of the Spreading Fire), 180 Kidou
Description: By the additional cost, the user can add to the spell three additional replicas of Hiashi. Each replica has half the power from the original Hiashi. The replicas can be cast over different targets or empower the damage in one target. When the Kidou circumferences overlay, their diameter grows by .5m, per circle, and the fire eruption's size gets equally bigger.

300 (Hiashi/no Hari) + 382.5 (2% Kidou) = 682.5 x 2 (Hellfire) = 1365

Satori whistled acknowledging, seeing the huge circle of fire erupting underneath the hollow.

Stepping closer to Adelaide and farther away from the heat emitting attack, he started to create another layer of sheets.

“When the loneliness gets to real, when the pain gets to much, reach out towards safety and lose yourself in my embrace. Chiyudou number thirty-one, Safety Bind.”

The Chiyudou surrounded Adelaide like it had surrounded Ishin, giving her an extra layer of protection. Afterwards, he started to move to Toride, who had just finished his spell. He would be the next person to get enwrapped in bandages.

He tried to ignore the little dispute Adelaide had with the captain of the Seventh Division; it was not his business. What bugged him, however, was that two additional Shinigami were at the point his team was appointed to. This was hardly a coincident, or was he just paranoid again?

[150/1283]

Just as the hollow was about to escape, the ground beneath its feet gave way to an immense pool of fire. As if the ground itself had turned into a bastion of pure flame, the air around the hollow began to crackle with Kidou energy, heat, and the pure reiatsu the hollow and shinigami were pouring out. It was engulfed in the flame, the first layer of skin it had being melted away. Then, aslmost as quickly, the skin reappeared, and suddenly it seemed as though the hollow was absorbing the fire. Like it was growing stronger from it. The inferno was, it seemed, fueling the hollow's power. It let out a roar, and suddenly it was engulfed in an odd light that seemed to radiate from within the foul creature itself.

When the light subsided, what stood before the gathered shinigami was at once both the same and vastly different. It was the same hollow, for sure: The reiatsu was he same and it felt the same. It's physical appearance was immensely different. Before them now stood a being that looked to be about the size and shape of a human male, of average height and build. There was a large difference between it and a human.

The hollow's hair was on fire.

Or seemed to be. What was odd was that the mask the hollow wore seemed to extend up and become the flame without ever actually changing into it. The color and shape were all of fire, but it was still obviously part of the mask. One side of the mask had a huge burn mark going through it.

"Well now, isn't that original. It takes work to make scars look good, and you have a ways to go."

Ishin's little jab at the hollow's face seemed to do nothing more than to piss it off, at which point it decided to charge after the shinigami. This time, however, he went after the less powerful opponents that had shown up.

Satori had just arrived at Torides position. Exactly like the last two times, he began to speak the incantation.

“When the loneliness gets to real, when the pain gets to much, reach out towards safety and lose yourself...” he had nearly stuttered at this point, because he had one eye on the flaming circle when the hollow came out of it not only unharmed, but also in another appearance.

“...in my embrace. Chiyudou number thirty-one, Safety Bind.”

A thin layer of bandages started to wrap around Torides body and Satori was again satisfied with the outcome. He still had enough reserves to go on like that for a while, but he already started to breath heavier. It just was unusual for him to run around from patient to patient, but maybe fieldwork was not so bad after all. Well, if one could ignore the hollows; but one could not.

Satori was just about to start his way to Setsuna, so that he could help him as well, when the hollow started to head for them.

Satori started to panic. What should he do? What if the hollow attacked him? He thought back at the times in the Academy. His sword, of course! Unsheathing his sword with trembling hands, he already thought about the next step. He should run, yes, running away would be the best idea, or?

And so, Satori began to move away from Toride, tried to get some space between himself and the battlefield.

[246/1529]

hey, he isnt the first healer who ran away from the tanks/dds instead of running to them so they could deal with the enemy^^

Oh balls, Setsuna moaned as the hollow completely ignored the two much stronger shinigami present and instead went for the two weaker shinigami present.

Well can’t say I wouldn’t do it either, he admitted before jumping from his perch on the lamppost to a position directly between the hollow and Satori. As he landed he quickly raised his empty hand.

“Hadou Fifty-Three, Sanjukageki!” The multicoloured projectile shot at the hollow but Setsuna paid it no mind, instead turning his attention to Ishin and Adelaide.

“When you’re both done with the stare down some help would be nice! I doubt that stopped it for long.” Any longer and I’ll send the bastard after you myself, or maybe you after it.

Well, that brings a whole new meaning to "ride the lightning..." he quipped as no damage was done to the beast. As he watched the Hollow walk through the fire without being harmed, he couldn't help but think of the song "Through the Fire" by Crush 40. Such a power reminded him greatly of the Mystic technique called Hitomane, which was the concept of seeing something and gaining strength from it. In fact, if it didn't name itself, he would take to calling it Hito.

Satoru noted the Medic walking over to him with a small amount of apprehension. He wasn't familiar with Chiyudou at all but, seeing the bandages springing into existence, it made him wonder if his range of movement would be tampered with at all. Once the young man summoned them on his own form, the Mystic tested his arms and legs. He was glad to note that nothing was inhibited; his torso, legs, and arms were all covered in the protection of the healing magic, but they were done rather artfully.

"Thank you, Satori-san. Your help is appreciated," Satoru said in a comforting tone of voice meant to reassure his new comrade. As the Hollow dealt with the colorful assault, Satoru ripped two chunks of earth from the ground underneath the Mystic and the Medic. On the platform of Earth, the two started to fly towards Adelaide with all the speed Satoru could coerce from his own mind. Heralding his arrival was a message from Taidan.

Adelaide, we need to protect this guy. He's kind of the only Medic we've got, so what do you suggest we do? And please don't say Kill It With Fire, because we've tried that.

Oh, my, aren’t we clever today, she responded to her fellow mystic, though the same could be said to the Hollow, Always know where the healer is, if we both keep an eye on him, one of us will be able to protect him. Meanwhile, I’m going to see if beauty is only skin deep with this little bastard.

She was really rather concerned seeing her fire kidou turning the hollow into a fire-based hollow. She frowned rather disheartened at the fact that it seemed to absorb her power. How disappointing. “In furor my enemy cries. May the Earth God accelerate his ruin and bring me victory,” Adelaide spoke quite quickly, but still sounded rather disinterested, “Daishou.”

As the black arrow formed underneath the adapted hollow to send it flying violently toward her waiting scythe, one she had imprinted with kidou some time ago. She wanted to toss the hollow into her waiting wapon and plant the imprinted kidou inside the creature. It was her most horrible and terrifying method of execution, but it was designed to be just that – an execution. This wasn’t a tactic for battle or for a fair fight, this was a tactic designed to kill something violently and spectacularly.

She imagined she was massively underestimating the hollow, and that her attempt to toss it into her waiting blade was likely to be ineffective, but either way, that hollow was getting thrown, and the young shinigami were protected. After all that, Adelaide would deal with Ishin.

The hollow remained silent as it flew through the air. Almost as if struck dumb by the movement that had been forced upon it. It raced ever closer to the deadly sharp tip of the scythe waiting for it. It would have hit it, too, had it not been for the sudden stop it pulled. Reaching out it's arms, the hollow came to a screeching halt by gripping onto a tree it was passing. The tree nearly split in half due to the suddenly spent inertia and force thrust upon it, and shards flew every which way. It turned its head on the female, then seemed to smile without actually doing so. The effect was strange and unnerving. It then turned it's attention on the one that had repeatedly cas the same spell to help the shinigami.

The hollow was learning, quickly.

It knew to take out the support that the shinigami had It knew that it had to save the two that were fighting amongst themselves for last to stand a chance. Which meant that, for the meantime, it would target the others and hope the two shinigami would fight each other and keep themselves distracted. Then, as it turned to them, it did the thing that they had been dreading.

It spoke.

“You come against me while I am admiring my property, chase me out, and think to insult and attack me? This is my home. MY DOMAIN! Nothing will keep me from my property!”

WC 248

In that instant, all of Adelaide’s ire found a new target. Prior to now, she had only been tangentially interested in the hollow. It had been something inconveniencing her attempt to being Katsuji Ishin to justice for the crimes he had committed. But that all changed when the little bastard spoke.

“You totally just said the wrong fucking words, hellspawn.”

The words were spoken with a kind of passion and rage that she had previously directed at Ishin. It talked about home, about its domain. It talked about its property. It talked about them bringing insult and violence to a place it cared for and saw as its own. As home. Adelaide probably could’ve identified with this pain right now if it wasn’t a Hollow having it. Since it was, since Adelaide had friends die and it was looking for a good meal, it was time for her to get far more interested in the wellbeing of that damned hollow.

Adelaide slowed the world around her with the kind of power she had only used a few times before. When she did, the burn on her wrists became excruciating, but she had to bear with it. The slowing of the world made life a lot easier when it came to incantation, that much was for damn sure. She lifted her free hand; “Ye lord, mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of man!” The creature was slower and she was talking fast, but it still was a race against time. Still, the familiar scent of Adelaide’s hellfire would’ve been easy for Setsuna to recognize. “Ashes and dust, strike at the world with the power no less than three!” She shouted the next words with all the rage and pain she had felt all day, “Hadou number Fifty-Three, Sanjukageki!”

The wave of gravity kept the lance of power still, hovering impatiently with a desire to tear across the world like the previous version of the spell would’ve only dreamed of being able to do. This one would’ve dwarfed that one in magnitude. And Adelaide quickly let them free, as well as the others around her. She could smell the flesh of her wrists singing, but she didn’t care.

When the three flares leaped to life, Adelaide wasn’t where she had been standing any longer. She launched herself along with the fire, hoping to strike the hollow with her scythe and continue passed it, unfortunately placing the hollow between herself and Ishin. She hoped that she wasn’t going to burn too much more energy on the small fish – she still needed to land the legendary whale. Why did using her abilities burn her, though?

Sorry guys!

Juuryokuha [Wave of Gravity] Unique Feat
From her prolonged exposure to the remnants of Ishin’s bankai attempting to make them a workable shield, Adelaide has been affected by the power of the Prison Captain’s reiatsu. Through Juuryokuha, the normally weak force of gravity now being exerted by Adelaide’s reiatsu grows dramatically stronger. Adelaide can pay 5% of her reiatsu to increase the effect of gravity within 10m for a single turn. Indiscriminate in its effect, it temporarily slows all targets and effects in range relative to the cost of Juuryokuha and the affected ability, even to the point of halting movement for effects equal or lesser in cost. Abilities such as shunpo are impacted. Normal attacks treat this gravity wave as a barrier. Normal movement is halved. At the end of that turn, all slowed and halted movements return to normal.

Deeper studies into the demon arts have granted insight into the fluctuations of reiatsu and how to adjust them while still achieving a desired result. Ranks 91+ = Spell Cost + 10% Kidou Stat
This technique uses the natural rank of the spell and is not affected by abilities that lower or increase the effective rank.

Senka [Flash Blossom]
With their growing mastery of Shunpo, the user is now able to deliver a blindingly fast attack. In the middle of a flash-step, the practitioner may deliver a single melee attack to a target in their path. This effectively doubles the strength behind the user's attack.
This ability takes the place of two normal Shunpo uses and costs 500 reiatsu. It does not increase the user's skill in their attacking stat.

Hellfire
A purely Hadou-enhancing ability, Hellfire allows the casting of Hadou at an additional 1.5 times Reiatsu and Kidou cost for a corresponding 50% boost in spellcasting area, power and/or duration. Satori nearly tripped when the ground underneath him started to shake. Even thought he was a good friend of Sekka, they had never talked about division techniques or anything like that. Thus, he was more than surprised when the piece of earth suddenly started to fly in Adelaids direction. At least, this stopped him from running away.

The words of the hollow pierced marrow and bone when Satori had heard them, while the world around him began to slow down, and the piece of earth grumbled to the ground, as if the gravity of the planet suddenly went stronger. Barely landing on his feet beside Adelaide, he only was able to blink once before she was gone, together with the reiatsu strengthened spiral of fire and its weaker self, cast by the other shinigami.

He still did not know what to do, so he decided to run, again. Turning around he ran in Ishin’s direction. As much as he was paranoid that the guy in front him was not Ishin, he would have at least another strong being close to him that could possibly distract the hollow. Or he ran into a trap, only time would tell.

[197/1726]

He watched the Medic run towards the healer captain. As he rested his face within the depths of his calloused palms, Adelaide's influence overtook the battlefield with impunity and spared no one. Though there wasn't much that, Satoru could do against the wave of gravity, it gave him something rather valuable in the long run.... some time to think.

One: The Scion adapts with each attack Adelaide has thrown at it.
Two: All of the attacks that have been absorbed were fire-type kidou; try physical attacks if possible.
Three: Its focus has shifted toward the lesser of us, so we shouldn't count on help from Ishin.
Four: Adelaide is pissed at it; make sure her anger stays focused at the Hollow.

With that being said, Satoru shouted at the small Fourthie, "Protect yourself with those bindings! Can you at least do that?" Afterwards, Satoru decided to walk next to the Medic. To make himself feel better, the Mystic drew his tanto and held it cautiously at his side as he moved.

While all of this was going on (Adelaide’s attacking, Satoru’s thinking etc) Setsuna was still perched on his lamppost and taking careful observation of everything that the Scion was doing. His green eyes followed its line of sight.

Satoru? So it’s going for the weakest of us first? That makes sense. Now do I have a little fun and completely fuck up its ideas? His eyes flicked to Ishin. The prisoner captain was too far away at this point to be affected by anything Setsuna did. He’d likely have to move closer to the man for anything to be done. Then his eyes moved to Adelaide. She was a bit closer and the Scion seemed to be in range as well. Setsuna sighed.

Ugh, looks like I don’t have much choice anyway.

“Right folks, listen up. I ask that none of you ever speak of what you are about to see. Firstly because this works better as a secret and second is that I am about to look like a complete berk. Ya’ll got that?” Without waiting for a reply Setsuna jumped to the next lamppost and began spinning Senshin in his hand, the other behind his back.

Well here goes nothing... “Bankai!” In a sudden flash his clothing was the same colour as Senshin’s own rainbow attire, his eyes changed colour with every blink and both of his gloved hands wielded a single weapon, each etched on both sides with 知覚専心. Chikaku Senshin.

Before anyone could react (laugh, cry out in shock, whatever) Setsuna quickly pointed his left hand blade at Adelaide and the right at the Scion.

Shouten! Each of the two took a brief moment to turn their head toward Setsuna, each with the same glint in their eye, though the Scion’s expression was a lot scarier than the Mystic’s. Before each could react however, Setsuna used yet another power.

Nagashi Me! He then swapped the person each of his swords was pointing at: the right at Adelaide and the left at the Scion.

Woo, that got me out of some trouble then. The Ninth Seat grinned and spun each weapon around. And now the real fun begins.

[365/1,393]

WTF?
Setsuna's Bankai is in his profile, found by clicking the kanji link under the Ewan image in my signature.

Explanation: Setsuna used the first ability Shouten to divert the attention of both Adelaide and the Scion to himself. He then used the second ability Nagashi Me to once again divert the attention of the two, this time to each other. They will now solely focus on each other and ignore everyone else present, at least until Setsuna's Bankai is sealed or if they leave a set distance, namely 25m from Setsuna's person. Though bare in mind that he would be moving all the time to keep both of them within this radius. So :p to any ideas of escaping.

Adelaide felt her attention focus on the hollow, as if she needed more incentive. She turned around, watching the Big Bang detonate and toss it aside like so many pounds of rags. The Hollow resisted her fire, but the raw force of her explosion was still enough to knock it off its feet. The Vice-Captain smiled narrowly, ready to finish things altogether.

For its part, the hollow didn’t find the fires of the explosion too bad. The shockwave, though, was particularly bothersome. It hit the ground rather hard, and tolled over to scramble back to its feet. The Red Lady was so wicked! She hurt it! She would bear the force of its rage and hunger!

Adelaide charged at the creature, blade ready for a violent cut, and the creature returned the gesture, charging at the Red Lady. As she put her weight into a swing the hollow ducked down and swept her legs out from under her, causing her to stumble to the ground. “MINE!” shouted the creature as it sent the Red Lady tumbling.

Adelaide caught herself by planting the blade of her scythe into the ground, but she lost footing and stumbled. She turned the stumbling into an advantage, turning herself around using the scythe’s pole and roaring, “Soukatsui!” A bright blue flash shot out from the Mystic’s hand and screeched across the park at the annoying little creature, “Don’t you dare talk to me about losing home, hellspawn, not today!”

The burst of energy struck the hollow, again knocking it backward and into a large tree. It didn’t seem particularly worse for the wear, however; it shook off the shards of wood and staggered to its feet, “SHE IS MINE, RED LADY!”

“So’s the tree.” The remark was snarky, even playful. It was pushing things a lot harder than normal to do it, but Adelaide reached out with her mind and heard the trunk of the tree, weakened by the impact of the hollow and Soukatsui simply, loudly, snap.

The tree hit the hollow square on the head as it fell, but the beast simply shrugged off the impact. As it stared at the Red Lady, it felt the presence of others. Other shinigami. Other food. Inch by slow, horrifying inch, it turned it's head and focused on the others in turn. One had two swords. This one held power. One had done nothing as yet aside from throwing some spell created lightning. It had simply been absorbed into the flames of rebirth. Again, another had done nothing against it, but was trying to help the others. This one would need to die. Then there was the Red Lady. It would enjoy very much consuming her soul. She held power like the one with two swords. Perhaps when the time came, it would eat them and use their essence to fight the last one.

The last one simply stayed and watched. Since chasing it, he hadn't done a thing. No spells, no weapons had been drawn, but the creature was frightened by the sheer amount of power the last one held. It was like staring at an abyss. It would need the power of the others to fight the last one. Then, once that one's essence had been collected, then it would go after the scions. It would eat them, one by one, until it was the most powerful. Then nothing would stop it from having its lady! Its mask wearing man! THEY BELONGED TO IT! THEY WOULD BE ITS PLAYTHINGS!

"Once I eat you, devour you, nothing will stop me. Not you, not anyone! I will consume all! I WILL DEFEAT EVERYTHING THAT COMES! NOT EVEN A SCION WI--"

There was a sudden silence, as terrifying and bone chilling as the hollows voice had been. then, without warning, the hollow's mask cracked. It spread from the center of the mask, slowly shattering. Then it started to gather speed. The cracks gathered and seperated again and again, until it was a spiderweb of fractures. Then, without warning, a chain burst out of the face. The hollow was lifted from the ground, held aloft by the chain that now protruded and seemed to grow from its face. The head slowly turned back to where the one that healed was standing next to the scary one, and it was struck with a terrifying fact. It was about to die again. Then, it started towards the two. Slowly at first, but gathering speed. Why? Why was it going towards them? And why was it still climbing? Finally, by the time it reached them, it was fully above them, looming over them.

The chain that was coming through the mask seemed to split, forming several smaller chains. At the end were wicked looking hooks. As if alive and sentient, the chains wrapped back and seemed to grasp onto the areas of the mask that had cracked. They wriggled and writhed, working their way into the cracks. Then they stopped.

And yanked back.

The mask was torn from the hollow, eliciting a howl that made even the unaware humans in the opera house cringe in sudden and unexplained fear. It howled for mercy, but none was to be had. As the howls grew more infrequent, it started to ooze black blood, its very face having been flayed open. It fell to earth, a pitch black torrent of life giving fluid that raced to pool one the ground.

But failed to do so. As it fell, the now corpse of the hollow shifted so that it was directly above the two. More importantly, it was directly above Ishin. Directly above Ishin's open and gaping mouth. He swallowed the life blood of the foe, harldy stopping for breath. After the bleeding stopped, a time in which the others were unable to move through the sheer shock and horror at what the were witnessing, the chains wrapped around the hollow's corpse and seemed to wring it dry, wringing every last drop of fluid from the beast. Then, it unraveled, and the beast was gone, now nothing more than dust.

“Well, that was less filling than I expected.”

As he turned to face the others, a smile spread on his face.

“Ok then, mission complete. Shall we leave?”

The bracelets roared with agony, burning, filling Adelaide’s nostrils with the scent of singed flesh. She watched the chains impale the creature, and as it gave its last words, she finally put two and two together. Not even a scion, Adelaide. Not even a scion. Lashiel’s voice echoed the last words of the hollow. Words that meant only one thing: the hollow Adelaide was watching die was not a Scion of Prometheus.

The man who killed it was.

The feeling in Adelaide’s wrists indicated that he was still, in some level, Katsuji Ishin. She knew that, on some level, his bankai was resonating with his reiatsu. And that’s what was causing the mystic pain. Katsuji Ishin was corrupted. Something was wrong with his reiatsu and the bracelets had been trying to tell Adelaide. That was why she was so suspicious of him. That was why each time she tapped into gravity powers she felt more pain. His zanpakutou was warning Adelaide and she hadn’t noticed.

And she didn’t just say something? mused Lashiel, How inconsiderate!

If it wasn’t for the fact that Lash was currently a scythe the mystic needed for combat she would’ve probably glowered at the spirit, So a Captain of the Gotei Thirteen is a Scion of Prometheus, and slaughtered my friends in the Amber Teahouse? She was going to have to confront Katsuji Ishin in combat in the heart of Manhattan. She was going to need to fight, and possibly kill, her own Captain’s lover. She was about to cross blades with the man who’s reiatsu rested on Adelaide’s wrists.

There was a quiet in Adelaide’s mind when Ishin spoke. The mission was over?

Release me and receive my majesty.

Adelaide put her hand to her ear, “Leftenant Pierce, requesting limiter release.” She waited a mere moment and listened to the panic, the nervousness on the other end. The magnitude of what was happening was simply astounding. A rogue Captain, surrounded by people Adelaide needed to protect. Manhattan couldn’t become a new Rio.

Caries Sanctimonia Lashiel, Bankai.

Horrible wings of fire shot from the mystic’s back and burned at her shihakushou, leaving a long coat, a skirt, a blouse when the flames burned away. Her hair fell out of its ponytail and grew to pass her lower back, as it did it blackened. The scythe became a monster, so much larger and twice the blade that it had before. Gems pressed their way into the staff of the pole, chains sprouted from seeming nothingness and wriggled and writhed around the weapon’s staff. The silver etchings blazed red, the sigil of Lashiel rested squarely between the wings of fearsome fire.

The scythe spun in the hands of the mystic; “Any last words?â
