The Films of your Childhood...

So I think at least everyone has one, and if they don't they should...

Ladies and Gentlemen of the internet, what is your favorite Disney film? Is it one from the classic days, such as Lion King or Aladdin? Perhaps one of the newer films such as Up or Monsters Inc.?

Post here saying what your favorite Disney film is and why it's your favorite.
If it had a particular meaning to you during your childhood, or if you gained better appreciation for it as you've aged and matured, feel free to share that as well.

Personally?

My childhood was dictated by The Lion King.

Everything about it appealed to me as a child, and that remains true as a young adult. From its amazing musical numbers (Not a soul alive has not sung along to Hakuna Matata and anyone who says otherwise is a liar) to its endearing characters (Rafiki introduced me to metaphors, and I've loved poetry ever since) drew me in and captivated me.

Doesn't hurt that the animation, even today, is absolutely amazing. And this was back when a majority of shots (landscapes and characters) were hand-drawn, which nowadays just blows my mind.

Lion King tied with Hercules are my cup of tea.


Lion King made me tear up like a little girl and Hercules made me want to lift weights.

Also I fell in love with Meg. No homo.

That being said, another childhood film not Disney-related that I really remembered was Princess Mononokaikusdyufssoemthingsomething. It freaked me the hell out.

Toy Story. Hands down. The Lion King comes in at a very close number two, but I would definitely say Toy Story.

The Dexter's Laboratory movie, Ego Trip, was one of my favorites, too.

My favourite Disney movie is definately the Lion King. Close seconds are Tarzan and Hercules. You can never go wrong with Aladdin, Robin Hood or Mulan either.

As for the cartoons, everything that went on Cartoon Network basically.

Coming in a tad earlier than most of you, I was first captivated by the re-released of Pinocchio (198-88 I think). The scene where boys are turned into donkeys terrified me but was awesome.

Then came Aladdin - I think the best Disney movie of all time. I still sing these songs at karaoke with my friends. I think modern movies, spawning from Disney's poor choice, force a main character to have a goofy little sidekick and follow the same plot lines. Perhaps I missed those older than Aladdin, but it seemed like many movies tried to rip it off.

Noteworthy mentions: The Great Mouse Detective and Rescuers Down Under. ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL around awesome childhood films.


PS. I have every Disney movie (up to 2002) In clamshell cassette form. Currently filling a box in the closet.

Not a Disney movie, but Transformers the Movie circa 1986. All in all, it was probably the first animated movie where I realised how epic a villain could be in design and through the actor voicing them.
