Original Sin

HG_zpsvbd5vigs.png

The Peccatum Originale was born out of necessity from a less than ideal scenario. Having no other option than to sign their souls over to a rather eccentric demon, the original members desired to at least create some sort of safety net. However, from this necessity, a safe haven was created for any and all who knowingly or unknowingly were placed into precarious scenarios dictated by individuals beyond their control.

Regardless if they were contracted by demons, those controlled by vistra, powerful politicians, or even those who are toyed by the divine will of beings that call themselves gods, members of the guild are guaranteed to find fraternity from other members. Members of the guild are likely to seek and assist those held hostage by such beings fulfill their contracts break free from their control, by any means necessary.

However, while the creed of the guild appears noble from by first appearances, the characters within the guild tend to align themselves with the edges of society. It is unsurprising to find a mix of criminals, ne’er-do-wells, and social pariahs. As such, they may use methods that are more underhanded and violent to ensure success.

MEMBERS AND AFFILIATES

DOMINIC MARTINOV - GUILDMASTER
The rightful heir to the title of Boss in the Martinov mafia family, Dominic was always used to dealing with the more nefarious members of society. Though, his forced contract with the demon Ego was one that he was solely unprepared for. Uninformed about the intricate details of Infernalis and demonic covenants, his instincts lead him to acquire as much leverage as possible to prepare for the worst. Urging the others caught in his plight, and hiring independent eyes to watch his back, Dominic founded the Peccatum Originale to not only free their own souls, but in turn to aid others in similar situations.

Carrying a brutal strength fitting a man of his stature and pedigree, the hitman naturally fills the role as the group’s muscle. Even as the guildmaster, he prefers delegating the more intellectual duties of dealing with the supernatural to others. The mafioso’s strict adherence to his ‘code’ pulls them into conflicts that they otherwise would have simply avoided, much to the chagrin of his comrades and regardless of the bounty rewards at the end.

CORVUS LOTHARIUS
A self-appointed game warden based out of Paludis, Corvus became wrapped up in the events surrounding the Black Portal. After a lengthy battle, the hunter entered an apparent contract with the demon Ego, taking solace in the company of the other individuals whom the devil recruited. Corvus cuts an unimposing figure off the battlefield, his small frame does little to intimidate many people. The young laicar can come across as equal parts naive and blunt due to spending most of his life alone.

However, the boy’s short years belie an individual who survived the crucible of existence in the deep jungle, a young man who cut his teeth by hunting beasts most other guides avoided. The sniper’s penchant in battle for harrying rather than outright defeating his marks have given the boy a reputation for being a bit of a sadist.

CASSIUS COLONNADE
An student lacking both prestige and pretension, Cassius is Peccatum Originale’s main contact with the demons of Bellator. When they were coerced into service with Ego, he drank deeply, furthering his ‘bond’ with his infernal master. Though not eager about the circumstances of his enlistment, he has taken to his new job willingly. While the others fulfill contracts and show the strong arm of the guild, he works through books and papers, trying to further their knowledge of Infernalis.

Unfortunately, this means that the mage is often the go-between when they must deal directly with fiends and demons, especially when their grim patron is involved. His slightly flippant and casual nature, while befitting someone his age, can often sour a working relationship or gain the ire of an otherwise indifferent fiend.

ARTANIS VI RENEBOLT
A mercenary with a seedy past, Artanis is one of the few members of Peccatum Originale not bound to the organization by any means other than his own material desire, the Demvir was contracted by Dominic in an attempt to hedge his bets against the guild’s peculiar overlord; the mafioso unaware of falsehoods surrounding the machinae’s sordid history.

Having previously dealt with the family and knowing of the potential returns for his services, the mercenary accepted Dominic’s contract on the condition that mafioso and his cohorts continue to pay his exorbitant fees, though the Demvir is oftentimes left shortchanged by his guildmates due to circumstances seemingly unrelated to their misadventures.

DUILIUS FORTIS KINCAID - AFFILIATE
A thief of some renown, Kincaid is one of the four people who entered an unholy covenant with the demon known as Ego. While the other three contractees went on to form the guild Peccatum Originale, Kincaid remained with his own guild to provide additional resource that the others might not be able to acquire.

A showman, Kincaid is a deft hand with a cutlass and handy caster of Occultus in his own right. He uses his overbearing nature to irritate both friend and foe alike, when in the spotlight, but has shown to be more than capable of subtlety and subterfuge when events demand of it.

PARTIES IN INTEREST
egosmall_zpswp7ilfmo.png

EGO - VICE
Little is known of the devil which contracted the souls of a good deal of Peccatum Originale's members, Ego. What is known is suspect, his penchant for dramatics disguising a being potentially centuries old and wise to the machinations of mortals. His interest in mortal parties seems to extend to their uncanny resilience and potential use for what appears to be his only present goal: the accruing of manpower in whatever form it may be acquired. Be it divine or demonic or otherwise, none are safe from Ego's craven ambition, whatever it may be.

GUILD TECHNIQUES
ALLEGORIA ■■■
When faced with a power that threatens to suppress them, Original Sin members inevitably rise to the challenge. Through a mix of sheer force of will, an indomitable nature, and a unified kinship to their allies, members can call upon a hidden strength that can bring titans to their knees.

Once per collab or chapter, the Original Sin member can draw on a reservoir of sheer authoritative power to issue a single command to a target of their choice. The command must be a simple, non-aggressive, physical demand. The afflicted individual is overcome with an unconscious desire to submit to the command and must complete it within two turns. This is treated as a 3 tier mental attack against the target. This ability costs 1500 vigor to use.
LIMBUS ■■■
The creation of the Contrapasso is personal event that is individual to each member of the Original Sins. Overtime, the connection between the soul and owner strengthens until calling upon the stored power provides the user with a novel ability. This new ability is often one closely tied to the guild member’s personal sin, expressed in the physical world.

This technique allows the Original Sin member to submit a personal item ability to add to the Contrapasso. This ability is treated as an additional unique item slot separate from the natural two. The strength of this ability is valued at the one below the current esteem tier.

GUILD ITEMS
CONTRAPASSO ■■■
The goal the Original Sin is the total freedom from authoritarian forces. As such, guild members are often forced to deal with powerful entities from both the natural and supernatural worlds. The Contrapasso acts as an equalizer when an Original Sin member is forced to deal what otherwise would be an insurmountable adversary.

While the creation of phylactery has been well studied in the domain of necromancy, the binding of a demon or familiar soul to a phylactery has been all but forgotten. However, through the events leading to the closing of the Black Portal, the guild rediscovered the ancient magic now only known by the Janu.

Upon joining the Original Sin, a new member binds a familiar’s or demon’s soul into a phylactery. As the guild member calls onto the power, the link between the member and the supernatural entity is strengthened. As such, guild members realize that the binding affords them unique abilities corresponding to their own being.

The unique appearance of the guild member’s Contrapasso may differ from user to user. However, it usually appears as a small trinket or object that the guild member carries on their person.

The members of Original Sin can tap into the power of the bound soul. When activated, the members of Original Sin immediately tap into the stored energy to regenerate 500 vigor. In order to not break the phylactery, this can only be used once per collab or chapter.

Members are capable of adding an additional, unique ability to this item through the [ Limbus ] guild technique.
CANTO ■■■
While members of the Original Sin may vary wildly in temperament and persona; however, they are always are a united force. The creed of the guild states that when one Sin calls upon another, the members must respond with fervor and promptness. Adapting the supernatural magic of the Janu further, the guild members created Canto.

The item itself takes the form of a small rectangular pane roughly the size of the user’s palm. The material the object is made of is reminiscent of glass but carries a staggering durability for its size and material.

Regardless how far away guild members are from one another, a member can pass a simple message through Canto once per collab or chapter. This information can only be mundane information such as locations and dates or basic symbols. Even if guild members are continents apart, they will receive the message almost instantaneously. When a new message is received Canto glows with a dull heat until the message is read. Canto glows a different color based on the sender. Messages can be sent either to individual members or the guild as a whole.
