Kidou / Gintou Submission Thread

I'd like to suggest a nip-tuck on Hiashi:

Hiashi - Hadou #16, 120 Kidou

Description:
An auburn luminous Kidou circumference, of about 4 feet diameter, is drawn on the ground, underneath the target's feet and a fire eruption is shot upwards.

Incantation:
"Subjects of fire, dance! Hadou #16, Hiashi."

Extension:

After casting the first, complete spell, the user can cast up to three quick replicas of Hiashi without the need of the last part of the incantation, being one after another. Their power is halved, though.

Incantation: "Subjects of fire, dance!"

So, I'm going to need to see a RESUBMIT of this. First, Extensions come at an additional cost to the original. Since Extensions don't occupy a slot, the use of the extension would otherwise be free. Using the math of three half-power Hiashis, it would cost 180 kidou. Second, an extension needs a name. Like Aisu has Aisu Wave, this would need to be something else. Lastly, the incantation has to include "Hadou #16 part two, [Name of Extension]", even if that's all the incantation is.

To give you a good idea, I've enclosed Banshisei and Ruzai, which is a good model to follow.

Banshisei (Ruzai)
Banshisei - Hadou #28, 500 Kidou

Description
: A Bakudou removal spell. Forcing reiatsu out of their body to counter the opponents', this spell requires physical contact with the target spell, but can disperse Bakudou of equal or lesser cost almost instantly.

Incantation: The captured begs for freedom, selling their souls for a chance to escape. The cornered man forcing his last hand. Hadou #28, Banshisei.

Extension: Ruzai, 500 Kidou. Doubling the energy released, Ruzai adds to Banshisei's banishing properties, dispelling Bakudou equal to or less than the cost of Banshisei and Ruzai.

Incantation
: Hadou #28 part two, Ruzai.

Hiashi (Spreading Fire) - Hadou #16, 120 Kidou

Description:
An auburn luminous Kidou circumference, of about 4 feet diameter, is drawn on the ground, underneath the target's feet and a fire eruption is shot upwards.

Incantation:
"Subjects of fire, dance! Hadou #16, Hiashi!"

Extension: Hiashi no Hari
(Determination of the Spreading Fire), 180 Kidou

Description: By the additional cost, the user can add to the spell three additional replicas of Hiashi. Each replica has half the power from the orginal Hiashi. The replicas can be cast over different targets or empower the damage in one target. When the Kidou circumferences overlay, their diameter grows by 1 foot, per each, and the fire eruption's size gets equally bigger.

Incantation: "Hadou #16, part two, Hiashi no Hari!"

Ah, there we are. I like this extension, and not just because I love Hiashi so dearly, but because it does something fairly clever to the original kidou, and certainly fits the name "Spreading Fire." Consider Hiashi no Hari APPROVED.

As I find I'm using this one....more than most sane people...

Base Kidou:

Blood Lance - Hadou #56, 1200 Kidou

Description: This hadou takes hold of any blood covering the user's body. This blood condenses on the user's chest and then bursts out as crystallized spires. These spires shoot up to 5m from the user, in a spread fashion.

Incantation: Take my suffering and respond in kind! Hadou #56, Blood Lance!

Proposed add-on:

Extension: Crimson Shards, 1,500 Kidou

Description: Detonation of the crystallized spires of blood across a 5m radius, rather than merely letting them dispel and fade.

Incantation: Let my pain become theirs, Crimson Shards.

I need some clarification here. Does it detonate the spires after they impact the target? If so, what do you mean about a 5M radius? Or is this an alternative dispersion method? Or does it detonate all spires withing 5M of the caster? Please RESUBMIT with a clearer description.

As an aside, also remember to include "Hadou #56, part two" in the incantation.

Submitting an extension to Tensoku:

Tensoku
(Foot Binding) - Bakudou #6, 60 Kidou

Description
: The caster stomps a foot on the ground and a glowing string of blue Kidou will chase the target's corresponding foot for a distance of 5 feet. In case Tensoku manages to reach the target's foot, it will anchor his foot to the ground for 10 seconds.

Incantation: Atlas forbids Hermes' will. Bakudou #6, Tensoku.

Extension: Taigoku (Roundup Arrest) - 180 Kidou

Description: By paying the additional cost, the user casts three extra glowing strings to chase different targets, each with the same effect from the original Tensoku. However, if the user's Kidou status is higher than 1.000, he/she can merge the glowing strings of Kidou at will, stacking the distance of their reach and their binding time.

Incantation: Bakudou #6, part two, Taigoku.

Extensions are not meant to be on every kidou, and this feels a lot like the Hiashi extension reapplied. If you really, really, want me to assess this I will, but first I want you to think "Does this really add something?" The Hiashi one was close to not meeting that in my mind. Does this add something? Is the kidou still balanced having it? Is this a good use of our extension mechanic? If you ask yourself all those questions and still want me to review this kidou extension, let me know. I will.

I worry that this week I've seen three new extensions, and they might be being cheapened by this. I like to see new, clever ideas. I love it. But I don't want to trade off the uniqueness of anything we have already, including extensions. I want people to really think about extensions before submitting them. I applaud the intentions, yes, but I'm worried for the direction these submissions are headed.

Yes. I really do think that an extension to Tensoku will add an useful feature to the Kidou, once you can use this quick step ground anchoring against multiple targets/enemies, being able to get some advantage if you are not that good with Hohou and/or when you get crowded. Bind several enemies to the ground and nuke them with area or multiple projetile Hadou/Bakudou.

I admit that the stacking part won't add much to this Kidou in matters of mechanics, being more of an upgrade in terms of power that could fit on another Bakudou of higher level (20's, 30's or even 40's, if we had any slot left), so I'm eliminating this part.

The main concern I have is that we don't have any remaining slots for new Kidou in the lower ranks, so, extensions for the existing ones should be considered.

Actually, I would even go further on my suggestion. I honestly think that the Kidou staff and the RP members that would want to cooperate, should engage a new revision in our Kidou library to make a careful analysis of what we have, sorting the Kidou that are useful, that really contributes to our RP, that meet the aspects you mentioned, from the ones that are obsolete or unlikely to be used. That way we would be able to refresh the current situation and give opportunity to the creation of new Kidou that would eventually empower our grimoire. What do you guys think? We can discuss this on AIM laters if y'all want.

So, here goes the re-submission for Taigoku, with the said modification:

Extension: Taigoku (Roundup Arrest) - 180 Kidou

Description: By paying the additional cost, the user casts three extra glowing strings to chase different targets, each with the same effect from the original Tensoku.

Incantation: Bakudou #6, part two, Taigoku.

b/c we need more high level bakudou

Valer - Bakudou #97, 7500 Kidou

Known to spark debate among even the most skilled Kidouists about how exactly it performs its actions, Valer is a unique binding. Upon the end of the incantation a group of a dozen or so spectral bodies manifests and seek out the target of the spell, each of the group is unique to the individual caster. Once attached the spirits severely hampers even the slightest of movements. Setting this spell apart from others is that the specters themselves are immune to techniques which do not use reiatsu.

Incantation: Awaken of denizens of beyond, the grave does not bar my call. Set forth once more and hasten to add another to your number. Bakudou #97 Valer.

With Hiashi, the idea that the extension multiplies the effect was a nice play on the name, "Spreading Fire". You made it spread. With this, however... it's pretty much the same extension but for a different kidou. Moreover, it allows you to immobilize four targets in one round, which is pretty impressive for Bakudou 6. I'm afraid this is DENIED, both for imbalance and for being a rather basic multiplier; copying the kidou instead of augmenting it as would be more appropriate in most cases.

Interesting, giving them a sort of physical immunity, and appropriate given their description. I'm interested to know the origin of the name, but that's a matter of curiosity not an actual issue with the kidou. I defer to Will on this, however.

What you're proposing is not an extension, as much as it is a multi-cast. With Hiashi, that was a little more acceptable -- that's more an attempt to assure a hit on someone who's trying to escape the first one, and/or widening the area of the attack for additional cost. With a hadou, that's extending the usefulness (range). It's not quadrupling the damage because a person can only get hit by one of them. It still teeters on the edge of acceptability.

Taigoku makes no pretense of being an extension. It simply lets you quad-cast the original spell (or, if you're in a division that allows casting multiple times in a round, eight or perhaps more).

An extension is meant to enhance something of the original spell. Some are extreme, like Kin and Bankin, but others change the properties of the spells. You have to consider what an extension does carefully, and recall that extensions can be cast in the same round. Paying more reiatsu to improve a spell is the goal, but casting it multiple times is not.

This extension is
denied. Crimson Shards is also denied. Look into other blood-related kidou to combine with this spell, like Akekataki.

Extensions are not meant to be on every spell, and will be reviewed more carefully, so make sure that they are reasonable to cast in a single turn.

Resubmit this with further description and clarification. The description should not include phrases like "a dozen or so" and the spell needs a description, not the note that "the description is unique to each caster." Further clarification of what the spell does is also needed, and perhaps a better idea of what is meant by techniques which do not use reiatsu, since most kidou can only be affected by reiatsu-costing techniques.

I'd also like a slightly longer incantation. We have too many short incants for powerful spells already.

Round Two, FIGHT

Valer - Bakudou #97, 7500 Kidou

Known as one of the more theatrical of bakudou Valer in its most basic form hinders the movement of the target substantially making it nearly impossible for even the simplest of motions to be performed. Once incanted, a light rolling mist stretches out before the caster as a dozen spectral bodies fly towards the target. The appearance of each of these specters varies based on the individual caster, each face familiar as though looking into a mirror yet names drift just on the tip of the tongue, as two ghosts attach to each limb as well as the target's neck and torso. Separating Valer from similar bindings apart from its strength is while each of the specters may be attacked, assaults lacking reiatsu payment phase harmlessly through the ghosts hitting nothing but air.

Incantation: Hear now the herald of the forsaken, seek me now avatars of vengeance; the grave itself does not bar my call. Set forth once more and hasten to add another to your number until the ages fall to ruin. Bakudou #97 Valer.

Cal - Hadou #95, 8500

Description: Focusing their magical powers into their hands, the caster of this spell summons a golden sword made of ethereal crystal and hurls it at their enemy. The sword bursts spontaneously casting down a hail of lightning that strike the ground around the target. Red discs leap from the ground where lightning hits, spinning up to torso level only to erupt into shards.

Extremely visual, the purpose of the spells long demonstration is to create a sufficiant distraction so that an enemy cannot detect when an actually strike is coming, eventually ending in thousands of deadly shards of energy ripping through them.

Incantation: Intertwining powers, eternal dancing, reach beyond powers yet unfathomed. Foul taint of the Dark, Blessed water of the Light, bring forth to my hands and sunder the world in my Name. Hadou #95, Cal.

And bumping down VS

Volcanic Summit - Hadou #83, 4100 Kidou

Description: While reciting the incantation, the caster will stretch out their arms with the palms facing down and begin channeling their reiatsu at a specific point on the ground up to 100 meters. Towards the end of the incantation user will turn palms upwards, causing the ground chosen to shift and elevate. Once the incantation is finished magma will erupt from the peak and shoot as far as 70 meters in all directions.

Incantation: The devil himself reduces the world to cinders, all around the children scream as all they have known is reduced to naught but ash. The flames of war dance, the fallen cries block out the victory chants. Hadou #83, Volcanic Summit.

So, you solved a lot of the problems with ambiguity that Will took issue with. I was wondering just who found your specters familiar, exactly? But, given how its written I would suppose that its familiar to anyone who looks at it. Given that there isn't much difference in terms of effectiveness. So this is APPROVED with the thought that anyone who sees these specters finds them familiar.

First, the demotion of Volcanic Summit. It was fairly well-executed, and I don't see any problems with it. As for your new 95, I like the idea of a mostly melodramatic cosmetic effect. I'm going to APPROVE this, as crazy as it is. Make Hueco Mundo light up like the Fourth of July.

Figured gintou deserved one in each School, so I cooked these up. Let's see if I've got the hang of gintou tubes.

Lichtdermatose | Eruption of Light
School of Burst Area
Cost: 1 Tube
A reishi version of a flashbang grenade, which uses spiritual particles to provide a light for 2 meters that not only blinds sight, but ability to sense spiritual pressure as well.

Pappen | Glue
School of Inhibition
Cost: 4 Tubes
Commonly used as a trap, the three tubes are poured on the ground. Creatures, even those of spiritual ability, who step on the charged gintou become stuck on it, like reishi flypaper. Removing oneself from the Pappen trap requires significant effort, regardless of the victim’s innate abilities.

The 'schools' are no longer used as such for Gintou. The flashbang needs some rewording to make it clearer how it works and how long it lasts. A good example is that a real flashbang blinds and disorients the target with sound, with the loss of senses lasting 5 seconds and general disorientation lingering for up to a minute. Resubmit.

The flypaper one... there needs to be some quantification to how strong it is and how long it lasts.
Resubmit.

... we got rid of gintou schools? Man, that was my only point submitting these. After having no longer really cared about them for a month, I figure I might as well finish them up now that a Quincy NPC exists.

Lichtdermatose | Eruption of Light
Cost: 1 Tube
A reishi version of a flashbang grenade, which uses spiritual particles to provide a light for a 2 meters radius that not only blinds sight, but ability to sense spiritual pressure as well. The blinding of traditional senses lasts for five seconds, and the area is flooded with high levels of charged reishi, blinding abilities like Reiatsu Noukan for ten seconds.

Pappen | Glue
Cost: 4 Tubes
Commonly used as a trap, the three tubes are poured on the ground. Creatures, even those of spiritual ability, who step on the charged gintou become stuck on it, like reishi flypaper. Removing oneself from the Pappen trap requires significant effort, regardless of the victim’s innate abilities. For the purposes of overcoming this inhibitor, it has the effectiveness of a binding kidou of 1200 reiatsu. The tubes required for this can cover an area up to one square meter for ten minutes or until it is overcome by a victim..

Shunkaji (Flash Incantation) - Idaten #52, 2000 Kidou to Learn
Description: Imbuing the intristic properties of kidou with the staple technique of all hohou practitioners, Shunkaji allows Idaten users to emanate these properties with motion. Paying 3% of their reiatsu in addition to the cost of a selected spell, their shunpo is then imbued with the properties of that spell, unleashing it upon a ‘wake’ that follows their every flash step.

This wake follows behind every shunpo, spreading out for 3m to wreak havoc with the imbued properties of Shunkaji for the amount of reiatsu paid in separate of the spell. Once paid for, the spell needs not be paid for again. However, to sustain Shunkaji requires the user to continue paying 3% of their reiatsu per turn. They may change the properties of Shunkaji by paying the full cost of another spell, and an additional 3%.

Adauchishi (Vengeful Corpse) - Idaten #99, 6000 Kidou
Description: The pinnacle of hohou is to produce the elusive Utsusemi, a movement fast enough to leave behind a semi-physical shell to deceive opponents. Idaten, however, takes this deceitful ability and turns it into a devastating trap.

Upon casting Adauchishi, any pre-existing Utsusemi creation will rupture violently upon being attacked, creating a vacuum which draws all nearby reiatsu-based abilities as well as physical matter for up to 10m away. If caught in the epicentre of this vacuum, the feeling is akin to being ripped apart from the inside. Seikeishi affects all reiatsu-based abilities below the total cost of itself, and the force with which it pulls them in is equivalent to the cost of Utsusemi.

Reminds me of a hohou equivalent of Kenkyouka, but the cost seems pretty effective. I only am curious, is this the feat's "gatekeeper" spell, or is that still forthcoming? The other kidou styles have a single kidou that acts as a power "initializing" the other kidou of the field.

As for this one on it's own merits, I'm
Approving it with Changes, simply limiting the schools of kidou that can be left in its wake to Hadou and Bakudou; leaving chiyudo in its wake would be odd and Kindou cast this way would be odder. Also, I'm raising the Rank of this kidou to more accurately match the other Style-based kidou.

This one is limited not only by it's rank and cost but by requiring 10K Hohou to execute to begin with, making the effect pretty solidly balanced. Definitely Approved.

Again, I'm not sure if I can let these actually be used without a gatekeeper spell, I have to defer to Will on that, so consider these approvals pending the creation of a variant of Togitate or Kyuuzou Maou. If Will says you don't need one of those, consider these kidou usable.
