Think we've had something kinda like this in the past. From what I remember, it was mostly from the RPer's point-of-view. This right here, as the title says, is a character interview. Answer the questions as if you're character is being interviewed. Helped me flesh out my character and give him a solid identity and this'll give people a chance to get to know characters that they don't read about seeing as, you know, s'a shitton of characters around here and nobody reads EVERY thread posted. Even if there are some questions your character wouldn't reveal to anyone, post them anyway (other than spoilers, of course).

What is your motto?

Ladies & Gentlemen! I present to you all, here for the first time, live on stage, Captain of the Fifth Division, Haresuno "Kyo" Uchiharu!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Well, I'm not as much of a downer as I was a few years ago. And I've come a long way from being a simple Rukongai punching-bag. So, I guess quality of life.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
/Haresuno's expression becomes distant, and you thing he's recalling a memory. A happy one, to be sure, as his face has a honest smile./ To live in a world with my (very-soon-to-be) wife, and son. I could care less what gets thrown at me. With them, I could take on the world!

What is your current state of mind?

Well, if you want to include having an ancient and powerful arrancar sitting side-saddle on my brain and soul - I'm a little off center. Otherwise it's just the day to day, good ole fashion routine. Though, I am starting to suspect that my subordinates think I'm some form of deranged.... If they can focus on me, I need to set up more traps. /He begins to tinker with something. A small box that doesn't appear to have anything to it. But there's a weary feeling when you look at it. Close to anticipation, like waiting for the thunder after lightning./

What is your favorite occupation?

Occupation? But I'm a captain and a prominent member of the League of Regular Enchanters. Very small group, mind you.

What is your most treasured possession?

That would have to be the cloak I wore when I entered the Gotei. Complete with the kanji "bad luck" Iida found time to stitch in.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

/Haresuno puffs out his chest, and smiles with all the pride of a man in love./ Misses Iida Ailen -and if I live through these PMs- Uchiharu!

What is your favorite journey?
Well, I'd have to say any time I've ever gone into Rukongai. It's always a life changing experience. Even if it is filled with an annoying god who narrations break reality sometimes....

What is your most marked characteristic?
Perhaps it is my glare. Or my constant brooding. Or is it my bullheadedness.... Haha, honestly I don't know!

When and where were you the happiest?
/You watch as Haresuo's face goes five shades of beat red, and his eyes dodge about./ Oh. Um. Well. Ah, say, don't you have anything a little less... Personal?

What is it that you most dislike?

Arrogant people. A little confidence is all and well, but when you shove peoples faces with it then I might start having problems.

What is your greatest fear?
...' Prometheus... No. Prometheus getting a hold of my family.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Have you seen my knife collection? My portable knife collection? The one I'm wearing?

Which living person do you most despise?

There's this little twat of a criminal back in Rukongai whose done a fair job of ruining some good people's lives.

What is your greatest regret?
Aside from forgetting that I could have used Sekiryoku Houshiki Xiezhi's Koushou Gekitai to throw Prometheus away from everyone? It'd be me being so damned cynical about everything.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I've read about this wizard in Chicago who can do some amazing things with enchantments and various other spells. I may profess my hand at enchanting various articles, but the things he does is just not fair.

Where would you like to live?
Oh! Now this is my cup of tea! You see, I've picked out this nice little piece of land - don't tell my fiancee, by the way, it's a surprise! - it's currently barren, but I think I can work it out to be something amazing .... /You lapse into a drowsy nod as Haresuno goes into great detail about his planned home./

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
That's... really quite dreary. Can we move on to something else? I've had enough misery to last me a millennium.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
Good men must be honest with one another. If honesty cannot be met, then at least avoid lying.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
/Again you watch as Haresuno's face goes a shade of red./ Well, I don't particularly think hard about these things, you see, so. Um.. well.. I guess its how much they're comfortable with them-self.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Outside combat, a well of wisdom not often heard. In combat I tend to be the equivalent of a combat idiot.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Quick prejudiced. Nothing is going to be black and white, so why live thinking so?

What do you most value in your friends?
The trust they have in me, and their selflessness.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
I haven't read anything current, but I was raised on the legends my grandmother would read to me. Tales of Loghain the Wild were especially fun to listen to.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Lilith, who always appears strong even when something may not be alright. Iida, for having to deal with the constant injuries of, not just me but, my whole division and others. Oh my, there is quiet the list. Perhaps I should just stop there for time's sake.

Which living person do you most admire?
Sayis, because he was always a good mentor and a continuously consistent person. Not to mention his ability to spell-cast and sword fight. I doubt I'll ever match him toe-to-toe in either category.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
/His brow furrows into deep lines, and you sit silently for a good amount of time. You even begin to see Haresuno sweat from concentration until smoke pours from his ears. If he does speak It doesn't look like you'll get a straight answer on this one. Best to come back to it another time./

On what occasions do you lie?
Any time that provides opportunity, when needed. That is to say - never. /Haresuno leans over a bit and nudges your side. You get the impression he's trying to be clever, and he knows he's failing./

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I tend to butcher an idea of "justice" or "bad luck" or use the phrase "let's get dangerous" a number of times.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Hm... my height. It always makes me feel awkward looking down on people.

What are your favorite names?

Oh, I've got plenty. Let's see... Akemi, Azumi, Chiharu, Haruko, Kaede, Kimiko, Naomi, Ren, Yoko, Daisuke, Hideki, Isamu, Iwao, Katsuro, Kenshin, Kichiro, Masaki, Michio, Nobuyuki, Osamu, Takeshi, Tsutomu, Yuji. To name just a few.

How would you like to die?
"Teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day." That's how.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

If I'm lucky it'll be a child with a fresh start. Or, if my luck goes the way I think it does, than I'll most likely end up as a bug on a windshield.

What is your motto?
"On this foundation, I stand."

Sounds fun.

[ Rejuu Kyuketsu :: 11th Division Acting Captain ]

  • What do you consider your greatest achievement?
So far? Achieving Ban Kai. I suppose becoming the 11th's leader is nice and all, but still...
  • What is your idea of perfect happiness?
When all our innocence is restored and we're left the rest of our lives with dear friends and family... surrounded by nature's beauty and the freedom that comes with it. That's perfect happiness. To me, at least.
  • What is your current state of mind?
Resolute, confident. Eager to take on tomorrow's challenges.
  • What is your favorite occupation?
I can't see myself being anything but a shinigami. If or when I retire, maybe I'll be a baker, who knows.
  • What is your most treasured possession?
I'm not really into all that 'sentimental value' nonsense. My zanpakutou's probably the closest thing.
  • What or who is the greatest love of your life?
...I'd rather not go into that. Not yet, at least.
  • What is your favorite journey?
    Life's enough for me.
  • What is your most marked characteristic?
Aside from near-white hair and golden eyes? You don't see a lot of those running around.
  • When and where were you the happiest?
My memory's... a bit rusty so I can't tell for sure. I'm still pretty happy in the present though.
  • What is it that you most dislike?
Reaching my limits, seeing someone stronger and better than me. That's still the best motivation in the world, don't you think?
  • What is your greatest fear?
    Losing. Plan and simple.
  • What is your greatest extravagance?
    Yes.
  • Which living person do you most despise?
You're going to have to be more specific. There's living-living and then there's us in the Soul Society... the living... dead. Living-living, not really. I don't personally know a lot of humans. In the afterlife, however... nah, don't worry about it.
  • What is your greatest regret?
Let's skip this one for now, shall we?
  • Which talent would you most like to have?
Outside of my job... I guess learning how to bake. I've always had a thing for sweets.
  • Where would you like to live?
I'm happy in the Soul Society. It's serene for the most part, and there's plenty for me to admire.
  • What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Not striving to advance one's self. Accepting stagnancy and refusing to move forward... among other things. When you give up in life, you might as well end it. The idea's rather cruel, but that's just how the world works.
  • What is the quality you most like in a man?
Confident, unyielding. Strong too, of course. Loyalty, above all.
  • What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Same as before, but more bubbly and enthusiastic. Someone who can cast a light on even the darkest of days, if that example's any good.
  • What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I'm perfectly fine with myself. On the off chance I get upset for losing, I just know that there's still plenty of room for improvement.
  • What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Depends entirely on the specific person. In general though, I hate it when people bullshit around an issue. I can have fun with small talk and mess around, but if it's something important, it's a different ballpark altogether. Just get straight to the point and be done with it.
  • What do you most value in your friends?
Their company and the way they bright up my day even in the dreariest of times.
  • Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Can't say I have any. I've read human literature before, but none of it stuck to me too much.
  • Whose are your heroes in real life?
That's the thing, isn't it? There's a reason fiction exists. In real life, true heroes are just myths, made up to satisfy people's fantasies. Branding someone a hero would suggest that they are nearly perfect, almost impure, and unfaltering. Sadly, such an individual doesn't exist. So to put it bluntly, no. I don't have a hero in real life either.
  • Which living person do you most admire?
Again with this. In any case, I really do admire humans in general... both the spiritually aware and those who aren't. Despite their constant hardships, their limitations, and the disadvantage of their own mortality, never as a group do they succumb to despair. They strive to keep on living, to survive. They're stubborn, but that same stubbornness is what keeps them going.
  • What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Honor. War is hell, and when you cross blades with your enemy, there's no reason to give them any leverage, especially something like honor. We fight to kill, and most of the time we go against the scum who're dead set on bringing calamity and despair into the world. The only response to their kind is swift and unrelenting aggression, and to wipe them out with whatever means necessary.
  • On what occasions do you lie?
Once more, this depends on the situation. In most cases, I'm straightforward and honest, no matter how condemning the question can be. If your swordsmanship is lacking... hell, pathetic even, then I won't hesitate making it clear to you and to everyone else.
  • Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
No... I don't think I really overuse any phrases outside of my zanpakutou's own release command. I don't mindlessly scream out "Ban Kai" left and right either. If "meh" counts, then that's probably it.
  • If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Hmmm... good question. I'm content with myself, but that's with the realization that I can still improve. Grow wiser, stronger, more powerful. You know, all that.
  • What are your favorite names?
Kyuketsu. What more do I need?
  • How would you like to die?
Another good question. A part of me wants to die most in the heat of battle... something like a Spartan's death, for starters. To be surrounded by the clashing of blades and souls, drowned in the adrenaline and the fire of the moment. Intoxicated and wild... that's how. But then again, a part of me wishes to die alongside someone special, holding their hand until the very end, knowing that I never left their side. Totally conflicting, isn't it? When all is said and done, I honestly can't give a straight answer. I'm still trying to solve that question myself. Maybe in another three centuries or so you can come back and ask me. I'll probably have the answer by then.
  • If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
I'd like to be a bird. It doesn't have to be a bird of prey or anything fancy, just a species that can fly at extremely high altitudes. It sounds fantastic... to have the winds brush over your entire body, soaring above the earth as you see everything unfold hundreds of feet below. There's just a sense of freedom there that no other animal can ever hope to capture.
  • What is your motto?
I don't really have one. That said, there's a rather interesting little phrase I saw a long time ago that's still cemented into my mind. "Veni, vidi, vici"... "I came, I saw, I conquered."

ROUND I

Mineto Mitsuyo
Let's Get Some Shitass Fucking Tourette’s Up In Here

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

“Constantly insulting and demeaning my superiors and other people who could, like, decapitate me just by thinkin’ about it...and not being dead yet. Pure fuckin’ miracle. No, really, next question – I can’t think of any ‘great achievement’ that I’m responsible for, unless ‘not dying’ actually counts.”

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

“What? Er...I...I dunno. I mean...I haven’t thought that much about that sorta thing. I’m more of a negative, doom n’ gloom sort of guy. I’d rather focus on making other people happy...or at least safe? I mean, I guess you can’t really expect everyone to be happy...especially since some people are happiest when they’re doing bullshit like killing people. That kinda makes the ‘everyone happy’ idea Mission Im-fucking-possible....Urrrrghh, see?! Told ya I was too pessimistic for this shit, but no, I just had to try answering the question anyway. Look, all I really want is to be able to live every day knowing I’m doing the best I can to reach my goals...or something like that. Is that good enough?”

What is your current state of mind?

“Honestly? Even with the crazy shit that’s going down, the shitty Vasto Lorde collar-curse rendering me all-but-useless right now, and the fact that I’ve gotta somehow pretend I’m actually worth being the Third Seat of the First...I think I’m better than I used to be. That...er...that isn’t saying much, considering how fucked up I was to start with, but...

“...Well, I guess all the shit that’s happened to me has made me stop and think, and realize how long I’ve been acting like a total fucking douchebag. I want to make up for that, ya know? I mean, shit, I have a lot to make up for. And...I’m...I’m not sure, but I’m hoping that by the time I’m done, I’ll actually deserve the trust people have put in me, and the feelings my friends have for me, my fucking position.”

What is your favorite occupation?

“...Occu--? What? You mean, like, jobs and shit? I never put a lot of thought into it – apparently I never put thought into anything. Shit I’m dumb. But, er, anyway...for a while I wanted to be, like, an instructor or professor or something, but that went down the drain when I realized kids are total fucking jerks....I’ve always sorta enjoyed someone who’s good at cooking, though. I doubt I could ever be a talented chef or anything, but after living with ‘ka-chan’s cooking for most of my life....I mean...she’s...Yeah. I like chefs. Good ones. I dunno if it’s my favorite profession, but it’s one I can respect.”

What is your most treasured possession?

“Don’t have one. Don’t give me that look, I’m fucking serious! I don’t really do the ‘cherished possessions’ thing at all. Stuff is just stuff, ya know? If I have to pick something, it’d probably just be something practical, like my Chomei or Ataru, even if the little bastard is annoying as fuck to have stuck in my head.”

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

“...Tounyuu Kyuto. And I am not even sorta kinda going to try to explain why using words. I’ve tried before. It’s fucking impossible. Done. Next question.”

What is your favorite journey?

“Favorite journey? Do you mean what kinda journey is fun, or where my favorite place to go is, or what? I’m not really big on ‘going places’. I like being places, though, so I guess the journey is part of it. My favorite place to be is the living world. I have no fucking clue why Soul Society is so big on the huts and the ugly fucking clothes and boring crap. The living world has, like, buildings everywhere. And they’re huge. No, I mean huge. Huge and everywhere. And everything is lit up at night, and there are these...on the roads, they have these...machines, I think, and the humans get in them and, I have no idea how, but the machines let them go everywhere – fuck it. It’s too hard to explain. It’s really damn cool, though. And kinda creepy, but I think that’s just ‘cause I have no clue how they work.”

What is your most marked characteristic?

“My beautiful and fucking amazing eloquence, probably. Either that or my dazzling sense of optimism in the face of adversity. Also I’ve been told I look like a girl. Less since I hacked most my hair off, though, thank fuckin’ god.”

When and where were you the happiest?

“Uuuh, the happiest? Like, ever? I guess...when...I realized most of us had made it back from the Hueco Mundo scouting mission alive. We were all seriously fucked up, yeah, but alive. Ilsa, Yuurei, Makoto, Picca, Tsubaki, and everyone else was alive. Haresuno. Kyuto. I mean, I don’t think I registered as happiness at the time...it was more like this tidal wave of painful fucking relief, you know? But...I was happy. Not everyone survived, but I had thought...fuck, when I hit that big dome thing of Haresuno’s, I kinda thought we were all dead. And that wasn’t very cheerful at all.”

What is it that you most dislike?

“Killing. Or...uh, death? No, wait. It’s complicated. I’m a big fuckin’ pacifist, okay? I’m negative as hell, but I just want everyone to get along and go skippin’ through the tulips holdin’ hands and shit. So, maybe it’s just all things that make people think there’s a need for death and fighting and violence that I hate the most. If that makes sense. ”

What is your greatest fear?

“Easy one. I think my greatest fear has always been the same, in a way. I’m fuckin’ petrified of letting anyone down – especially anyone that’s really, genuinely put their faith and trust in me. That...and people dying. I mean, especially people close to me, no fuckin’ duh, but...I don’t want anyone to die. Really. Anyone. Even the really big bag guys. Even the total, absolute worst assholes in the world. I just don’t like death. That probably doesn’t make sense, considering my job title – but, uh, don’t think I’m lying, either. ‘Cause, I’m kinda really not.”

What is your greatest extravagance?

“Extravagance? Nothing real....oh, no, wait. I bet a lot of people would say it’s my uniform. It’s not that I’m tryin’ to stand out or be some super shiny special little snowflake or anything like that, I just...don’t...really...like the standard shinigami getup. So I make a modification here and there...and then shit just gets outta hand. It’s some sorta fucking miracle that I haven’t been called out for havin’ a shihakushou that looks nothing like a shihakushou, in retrospect.”

Which living person do you most despise?

“No one, damn it! I was just saying, like, a minute ago, that...

“Well, no, wait. I guess you can despise someone without wanting them to die, right?

“In that case, fuck Raifuku. No, I’m serious. That guy is such a damn asshole. Shoving everyone into some wonky dumbass maze is one thing, but trying to manipulate us and then urging us all to fight one another just to prove some super-contrived, overly-complicated point is, like, Grade A Jerkass material. It’s a bummer that the douche could probably pimp slap me through the stratosphere if I tried to punch him, though.”

What is your greatest regret?

“Taking so fuckin’ long to realize that my bitching and complaining and refusing to take responsibility for myself wasn’t doing anything but hurting myself, the people around me, and the people I was supposed to be fucking protecting. It’s gotten people hurt, and it’s gotten people killed, and that’s just not acceptable.”

Which talent would you most like to have?

“The..ability...to not sound like a total dipshit whenever I open my mouth? Hell, I dunno. Being able to convince people to stop being stupid or violent or murderous or crazy would be nice, too.”

Where would you like to live?

“Er....Earth? Tokyo, I guess? That’s not gonna get me executed or something, is it? ‘Cause Kyu would be fuckin’ angry if I got myself killed over an interview question. Probably at you. You don’t want Kyu angry at you. Just sayin’.”

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

“Well that’s a happy question. Uh...I’ve kinda...recently...done the whole ‘lowest depth of misery’ thing, so that’s kind of an awkward question. I mean, there might be lower depths than ‘being too weak to prevent the death of someone you should’ve been able to save’, but I really don’t wanna think about that. If something happened to...ugh, no, nevermind. I just said I don’t wanna imagine that – I’ll end up sitting in a corner angsting all over the place. Again.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

“Er. What? I guess...compassion? Fuck off, don’t look at me like that! I mean, I don’t wanna say ‘mercy’ ‘cause that’s a bit vague and weenie-sounding...not that compassion doesn’t. I just mean, it’s easy to hate someone, ya know? It’s a lot fuckin’ harder to forgive them, accept them, and move on.”

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

“...I dunno why there’s a differentiation between men and women. Wouldn’t it be the same thing?”

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

“Everything? Is that an answer? Sorry, okay, fine, lemme think. I guess...being weak? Not in a manly-muscley way, but just...in general. If you want to achieve shit in life, you have to have the conviction...and the strength to stand up for your convictions, right?”

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

“In others? I guess how quick everyone seems to be to jump at each other’s throats. Whythe fuck do so many people act like the only way to settle anything, ever, is by trying to stab anyone who thinks differently from them in the face?”

What do you most value in your friends?

“Er, the fact that they’re my friends at all? No, seriously – it says a lot about my friends that they’re able to ignore the cursing and shitty temper and antisocial behavior and constant pessimism. I’m constantly amazed that there are people willing to stand at my side at all...but I really do appreciate it. And them. And stuff.”

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

“Hero of what? You mean, like, a hero from a book, or from the comics Kyuto has covering every inch of her room? I never really...read...any books like that. Shut up! I just never thought to try it out. Kyu did get me to dress up as some...uh...comic-guy ‘Kenshin’ or something. Then we went out and stole a lot of people’s candy. Well they technically gave it to us in exchange for looking like morons and yelling English at them, but that whole thing made, like, zero fucking sense to me so...”

Whose are your heroes in real life?

“Uh. Like, everyone who isn’t me? Everyone around me tends to be fucking amazing. Kyuto, Sayis, Ilsa, Raury, Lilith, Haresuno, Tsubaki, Makoto...you get the point, right?”

Which living person do you most admire?

“Er....d-do you mean ‘living’ as in ‘in the living world’, or ‘living’ as in ‘you can interact with them’? I don’t know, like, a single fucking person in the living world. But I guess, here, in Soul Society, I admire Sayis a lot. When he isn’t being a pointlessly evasive and mysterious bastard...and when his stupid fucking office isn’t intentionally avoiding me.”

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

“I dunno, really. Justice, maybe? If only ‘cause a lot a people will do dumbass things in the name of exacting justice, ya know? No one should be able to disguise something like revenge for justice, and that sorta ‘an eye for an eye’ thinking is fuckin’ retarded.”

On what occasions do you lie?

“I...try...not to lie. Really, I kinda think I’m more abrasively blunt and honest than evasive and deceitful. It doesn’t help that I’m a really, really shitty liar.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

“...Have you been listening to me at all? At all? I’m gonna pretend that question was rhetorical.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

“Uuh, well I’m already working to change the things about myself I think needta change. If you’re talkin’ about a ‘snap your fingers and it’s done’ sorta change, I’d...rather not. Not that I think I’m perfect just the way I am, I just...I’d rather change myself, thanks. ‘Though it’d be nice to have the creepy black-collar-of-death-and-curses off – but €™s selfish thinking, since I’m not the only one with it. We’ll figure what the fuck the deal is eventually.”

What are your favorite names?

“I don’t have any. A name’s just a name, isn’t it? If I had to pick, I guess...Kouta is alright. Yasu? Sora? Yuuki? Kazue? ...Basically, I have no fucking idea. Something that isn’t ‘Mitsuyo’. I have no idea what the hell my parents were thinking when they named me Mitsuyo. Mineto Mitsuyo. Geez, it’s no wonder I got beat up so much when I was growing up.”

How would you like to die?

“I wouldn’t, genius. But if I had to pick, I guess it’d be either giving my life in return for someone else’s or, uh...in my bed. Asleep. Of ridiculously old age.”

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

“...Er, a...a...baby...?”

What is your motto?

“Hope for the best but expect the absolute fucking worst. At all times. Forever.”

Eh, why the hell not.

Ninth Seat of the Eighth Division

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Greatest? I'd probably say passing the academy's entrance exam. Failed the first time so getting through it was great.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I would go with... sat in my sister's tea house with a nice pot of tea and just wasting the hours away. *Audience goes quiet* What?

What is your current state of mind?

Relaxed probably. I'd verge on lazy provided Kago doesn't read this. What, he can? Then don't write that!

What is your favorite occupation?

Well considering I can only remember the one, I'd have to go with being a Shinigami, though there were guys back in Rukongai who said I had a builder's persona, whatever the hell that means...

What is your most treasured possession?

That is a toss-up between my scarf or this pendant.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Give over, it doesn't say that *grabs question card*, blimey it does... I'll pass on that for now :D.

What is your favorite journey?

Favourite journey? That's a weird question. I'd probably have to go with the long walk from the Eighth up to North Rukongai since the way back is quite hard when one is... slightly intoxicated.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I hope it'd be my happy and outgoing nature.

When and where were you the happiest?

That... is a long story and one I'd rather not go into at this point in time.

What is it that you most dislike?

I've never been fond of sudden loud noises, some warning is always nice.

What is your greatest fear?

Stupid questions. Nah, just kidding. My greatest fear is to lose the last person closest to me. Wow, that was oddly sombre for me.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I've never been one for extravagant behaviour but I guess my... beverage expenditures would be the best choice here.

Which living person do you most despise?

That's a bit harsh man. I don't despise any living person and if I did, I'm certain they'd have done something to deserve it.

What is your greatest regret?

A story involving a fall and a chair.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I've always wanted to be able to juggle, seems suitable for my personality and powers.

Where would you like to live?

I think I'd be happy out in Rukongai with my sister.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

When everyone is alone and unhappy.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

What? In a man? *Grabs card again* Holy crap, it actually says that. As long as he can tolerate me, we're good :D.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

That's more like it. I've always been a sucker for the sweet-natured, hard-working girls.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

In myself, I'd say with myself it'd be my... I have no idea.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Attention-seeking. That's my job, not theirs :D.

What do you most value in your friends?

As long as I trust them, I'm fine with whatever they do.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

I've never been the reading type so that's kinda something of a long shot for me :D.

Who are your heroes in real life?

Real life hero? Ha, as if there were such a thing.

Which living person do you most admire?

I don't have anyone I admire but there's a few I respect. Despite never meeting him, my Captain has my respect for having to deal with a bunch like us. Same and more could be said for Kago. Just don't tell him I said that. Don't want him getting a big head.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

I'd say Patience. If we were all patient about life, nothing would ever get done.

On what occasions do you lie?

A shorter answer would be when don't I lie? But seriously, those occasions shall remain secret so those on the receiving end don't learn of it. For my own safety more than anything else

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

Apparently, there's a a rumour going about that I start nearly every sentence with the word 'well'. That's probably true but there's no need for that is there?

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I'd like to be taller. Being average height is boring as hell.

What are your favorite names?

Taka, Enka, Haru, Kojirou and Meru. Oh, and Saori. She'd kill me if I didn't say that.

How would you like to die?

The hell man? What kind of question is that? I'd rather not die at all to be honest. I've done it once already, rather not do it again.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

I'd like to come back as a cat. Just lazing about the house, doing what you like, sounds like a really simple ex

What is your motto?

I don't really have a motto that I say a lot. I just live as I do. Hey, maybe that's it. 'I live as I do'. Nice.

/Yuu didn't come. She hates speaking before large crowds. She hates so many eyes looking at her./

Dafuq are you?
Dafuq is this?
Dafuq is that?! D:<
For shits and giggles, I'm doing this in a Nashira flavor. :>

Nashira Rochefort~

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being a part of the Gotei!
I'm not a high seated officer and people reaaaaaaalllllyyyyy made it hard for me in the Academy just because I look like a kid and all, *murmurs* it's kind of the same around here too, but I swear it's an achievement!
Don't ask what achievements I had while in the Twelfth though... *giggles*
Oh oh oh, wait!

I consider smuggling booze on the Seventh as my greatest superbest achievement EVER!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness will come when I've traveled to wherever my feet could travel and tasted each and every kind of booze there is here in Soul Society and on the other worlds!
*suddenly grins stupidly, imagining herself lazing somewhere with some booze in her hands*

What is your current state of mind?
Current? What current?
You mean now?!
I don't have any!
Wait, wait, WAIT!
Uhhh.....
Perfectly sane, wanting some booze?

What is your favorite occupation?
Being sneaky sneaky all around Soul Society, peeking on stuff I shouldn't be peeking on! *A wide grin appears on Nashira's face, eyes marked with a hint of wanting to do some mischief*

What is your most treasured possession?
But I don't possess anything of significance. Can I consider my super duper magical gourd as my most super duper precious piece of possession? I treasure it as much as booze!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Booooooooozzzzzeeee~
*she's totally smitten. it might be best not to disturb her at the moment...*

What is your favorite journey?
I remember one time when I asked someone to carry me around Rukongai while I'm drinking booze from my precious gourd. That's my favorite! It's so fun to see everything from up there on a tall person's shoulders, you know!

What is your most marked characteristic?
Most marked characteristic?
Most marked characteristic?
Most marked characteristic?!

Look at me, then go figure.
I swear that question's self explanatory!
*whines*

When and where were you the happiest?
At the bar, having booze.
Wait, I do that everyday!
Well, if I have a good conversation to match with the booze, I'd consider it happy!
But come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been happier than having some booze...
*Nashira appears to be thinking, with a frown on her small face*

What is it that you most dislike?
When people tell me I can't do this, I can't do that, just because I look like I kid. But I'm fucking ninety-nine and they should realize people on earth can do those kind of snazzy stuff at such a young age. Most of them don't even live as long as ninety-nine! So what's so fucking wrong with looking like a kid?
I can even handle so much booze, can't I?
That's just so unfair, guys. You oldies.
*sad sniff*

What is your greatest fear?
Fear? Hm, let me think...
I'd fear that one day, the world will run out of booze and we will have to settle with water. But that's so far-fetched because a ton of people all around here, on earth and well, more worlds out there, love booze, that's quite an irrational fear.
For now, I'd say being found out while sneaking. There's a high chance I can get out with all the cutesy cutesy mega overload factor, but when I can't, well... shit happens... I suppose.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Booze. I swear I've never spent a single cent of my money on something else.
Well, uh...
I suppose fine booze. I believe that's an extravagance.

Which living person do you most despise?
Living person I most despise?
I don't have any... Hrm...
I loveded you awl!
*flashes a cutesy grin to everyone. It's quite obvious that she was honest though*

What is your greatest regret?
Regrets? Hrm...
None, really. I don't think I've ever done something so terrible I'd regret it afterwards.
But you know, a kid doesn't need to regret so much. Otherwise I'd be a regretful idiot like a lot of you oldies. So much to think of. Jeesh, that's why your hair falls out so soon!

Which talent would you most like to have?
I'd love to turn into thin air!
That means I can just stalky stalky around without having anyone notice me while I'm on the job. That also means I don't have to go through doors, find big holes or anything. Plus I can just insta-travel anywhere! Isn't that awesome?!

Where would you like to live?
Where the booze is delicious.
It doesn't matter where.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Are you fucking serious?
Really?
Repeat that question.
I dare you.
I double dare you, motherfucker.
*Nashira seems to be quite serious about it. It might be best to just drop the topic and move on...*

What is the quality you most like in a man?
But but but but but but...
That question is for oldies!
*flashes you all a cutesy confused frown*
When I somehow grow up, I'd just love to have a man who can hold his booze longer. I swear that guy's gonna be one of a kind! BUT! He should still be able to do some responsibilities! Hurhurrr~

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
A woman?
That question is for oldies, you vulgar-mouthed creature! Do you take me for a fucking lesbian?!
*Silence ensues, but it looks like Nashira is thinking of something. Eyes sparkling, she finally responds*
BOOBIES!
BOOOOOOBIIIIIEEEESSS!

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Most of the time, I hate being so small. But it's so much of an advantage when it comes to work, so I think it's fine! I hate it when people look down on me just because I'm small though.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
For being so judgmental. Gosh, I swear! You oldies and your deep deep philosophies about being a kid and being efficient! Now git and don't mind me! You don't know how it feels!
*huffs out and frowns, with arms crossed near her chest*

What do you most value in your friends?
What friends? You call those oldies friends?
Hrm...
I'd call them drinking buddies. Wait, if that's considered a friend, well...
I value their love for booze and sharing so much information effortlessly after falling under the influence of booze. It makes my job and my life so much easier.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
I don't read books.
Well, if you don't consider academy books as real books.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
HOLY SHIT
You mean heroes exist?
You mean it, you really really really mean it?
Hooooooly shit, man.
You swear you're not drunk?
*She looks skeptically at you all, in utter disbelief that you're asking this question while you're sober*

Which living person do you most admire?
Admire? For what?
I'd admire people who created the ancestors of booze, but they're not living now, are they?

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Still philosophizing with me?
Virtue?
What the fuck is that shit?
*she raises on eyebrow at you, completely skeptical*

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh, that! I'd say honesty.
People don't realize how much they lie until they lost control of their consciousness and their mouths.

On what occasions do you lie?
God, creature, let me ask you a question.
On what occasions do I not supposed to lie?

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
The fuck is this?
The fuck is that?
The fuck are you doing?
The fuck are you?

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Well um...
I'd love to look older, but I'm pretty sure it'll be the first on my list of 'stupidest things I've ever done in my life'.
So no, nothing.

What are your favorite names?
Sake, Booze, Vodka, Beer, Tequila, Rum, Whiskey...
Oh wait.
*grins sheepishly*

How would you like to die?
Wait, wait, wait...
You mean we can die again?
Some kind of amazing shit you have right there!

I never really thought about why I'd like to die in any way but uhm, let's see...
*she ponders for a moment and looks around, trying to look for any references*
Ah well, fuck that.
As long as I'm happy, I'm fine with that.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
A girl who lives long enough to be a woman. With boobies. Can hold her liquor.
I imagine it would be fun to look at the mirror everyday...
And I figure it'd be so much fun to bathe everyday too...

What is your motto?
Life is easy.
Being old makes it hard.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Huh...well to be honest, I think my greatest achievement would probably be the friendships I’ve built with others. I can’t think of doing anything more meaningful than that.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
My Utopia has always been, and will always be, a world without conflict. Actually, let me take that back; a world without people who start conflict would probably be better.

What is your current state of mind?

Umm...I’m kind of hungry?

What is your favorite occupation?

Being a shinigami is the only occupation I’ve actually ever held. But if you mean favorite occupation in general, I’d have to say artist.

What is your most treasured possession?

A small pocketwatch that Chiru-san gave me a few years ago. But don’t tell her!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Umm...uhh...hmm...w-well, just refer to the last question I answered...

What is your favorite journey?
The one you make with your friends.

What is your most marked characteristic?

After being found and rescued by Tsutome and Imagawa-sama, I would say that that was the happiest moment I can remember.

Lovebugs. Melted cheese. Loudmouths. Oversized glasses. Tofu. Whiny people. Celery. Oh, and mass homicide, that’s pretty bad too.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Baklava. Baklava and chocolate-covered strawberries. Mmm...

Which living person do you most despise?
Right now? Probably Raifuku. That guy’s causing SO much suffering, and for no real reason.

What is your greatest regret?
I try my best to live with no regrets, so I’m going to say...none.

Which talent would you most like to have?
Well I already practice my favorite talent, which is drawing, but I’d also like to be able to play music someday.

Where would you like to live?
I’m not really sure, maybe in a palace or something. But I like where I live now.

Wow, that uh...that’s a dark question. But I guess it would have to include the deadly sin of Sloth; a never-ending loop of doing the same exact thing for eternity.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

I know it might sound REALLY shallow, but I would probably say her beauty. And maybe her ability to fight for herself, and not just physically.

Their innate abilities to deplore me while I deplore them.

Which living person do you most admire?

Probably the Soutaichou. He’s very strong, and I don’t think he ever loses sight of what’s right.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Aesthetics, of course. I don’t really feel like any of the others are “overrated” at all, per se.

On what occasions do you lie?
I never lie! Wait, why does it feel like my nose is getting bigger?

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Well...kind of...maybe...hmm...I think that’s about it. Wow, I guess I’m a very unsure person...

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Why would I want to change myself? I like myself just the way I am....well, maybe I might want smaller ears, they’re kind of big...

What are your favorite names?

I like a lot of names! Uh, lets see...if I was just choosing one male name and one female name, I’d probably pick Bastion for the boy and Lillian for the girl.

How would you like to die?
I...I don’t want to die...

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
I think I’d probably come back as a musical instrument. Maybe a piano?

What is your motto?
C’est la vie.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Whose are? Whose are? What is whose are?

Which living person do you most admire?
Probably that same darn no leg Olympic runner.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Persistence past a certain point. Trying is fine, but learn when it is futile.

On what occasions do you lie?
Every occasion. Like every. Eighty percent of my answers are lies, ye dinnae ken.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I dinnae think I dae, unless ye counts my accent.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I dinnae want tae answer this one.

How would you like to die?
Tried it. Dinnae want tae try it again.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
I already ken what happens so I think this question would be more of a wish fulfillment. Well, I dinnae really think about it anymore so I have no response.

What is your motto?
I'll find out what ye dinnae want me tae ken.

And one more thing. Why are ye soloing me out in yer intro post?

Samurai Talk! Featuring everybody’s favorite ginger

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I taught my son to be strong, and never to be as brash as his old man.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A small house with a cherry blossom atop an old hill.

What is your current state of mind?
I am making my way out of three hundred years of self-pity. Cigarettes are helping.

What is your favorite occupation?
The Yoshinaga family were once renowned swordsmiths, and as a samurai I knew the value of a good sword. Had we not been at war, I would have been a smith like my father and my grandfather.

What is your most treasured possession?
It’s silly for a soldier to be so vain, but I have pride in my red hair. Every Yoshinaga for the past ten generations has had red hair. It’s a mark of a strong member of the Yoshinaga house.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Hundreds of years ago I met a bold and combative woman whose temper stood up even to mine. I was proud to call her my wife.

What is your favorite journey?
Long ago, I would have said traveling anywhere in Japan that wasn’t war-torn, but now...any place other than the living world, built of wood and stone rather than steel and wires, is preferable.

What is your most marked characteristic?
I am a red-haired samurai.

When and where were you the happiest?
I once sat and ate a table faced by the only woman I’ve ever loved and a young boy still learning to use chopsticks. That moment is forever burned into my memory, because I have and never will be happier than I was then.

What is it that you most dislike?
This new idea that all things can be accomplished with screens and chairs.

What is your greatest fear?
Not having the strength to protect what’s important to me.

What is your greatest extravagance?
I sometimes smoke all of my good tobacco in one day.

Which living person do you most despise?
I am aware that Raifuku kills with what he thinks is impunity and holds himself above those he slaughters, and I have nothing but contempt for him. I’m also aware that shinigami are not...living...but so long as Chimatsuri Juzo can breathe and walk, he’s alive enough for me, and there is nothing worse in any world than a coward and a traitor.

What is your greatest regret?
I only knew my son for twenty years before he died in battle.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d like to know how to operate my...er, what was it called? My soul phone. I just found out that it can somehow store maps and I’ve got a terrible sense of direction.

Where would you like to live?
I am living in Seireitei among honorable soldiers, there is no better place.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Losing a child.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
Honor and presence of mind. The ability to stand true to his morals no matter what.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
The strength to stand on her own two feet without having to make excuses. And knowing how to properly cook rice.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I’m still afraid of the violence in my heart, and fear of oneself is not proper for a soldier.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
I despise cowards and traitors.

What do you most value in your friends?
Honor in battle and the strength to stand against the current, no matter how strong it is.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
I have never spent much time reading, but I have heard of a recent story of a samurai thrown forward in time and journeying to defeat a great evil. It’s the only tale I’ve heard in the past century that seems to be worth telling.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Utter silence, and the slow billow of smoke as the old man puffs his cigarette.

Which living person do you most admire?
I admire Sayis as he is the Soutaichou and leading so many cannot be simple or easy, and Manzou for matching my blade when I was spiraling out of control.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Virtues are not overrated just because there are cowards who cannot commit to them.

On what occasions do you lie?
A samurai does not lie.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I constantly refer to myself as a samurai. I am not a samurai. I have no shogun or lord. I am a ronin.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would forget the three hundred years I spent in Rukongai and be released from the fear of the violence in my heart.

What are your favorite names?
Ryusei, the name of my son.

How would you like to die?
Having died once, I can say that I wouldn’t like to die, but I know that it’s inevitable. I would prefer that it not be by my own hand a second time.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
Something that won’t remember the life before it. Or be made into food.

What is your motto?
More silence, and with the cigarette clutched between his thumb and forefinger the ronin puffs out one more smokey cloud and shakes his head.

Interview EXTENDED
What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?
His name is Yoshinaga Gorou, and he has a few nicknames but those around him would never know to call him any of them.

What is your character’s hair color? Eye color?
His hair is red, his eyes are brown.

What kind of distinguishing facial features does your character have?
As stated above, Gorou has red hair. While he’s got some scars, everybody has scars so that doesn’t stand out a whole lot. When I was writing up his appearance it was like 2 o’clock in the morning and I was considering hair color to get a mental image. I thought “Well heck, this is based on an Anime right? Anime characters have crazy hair colors! Like green and blue and purple! Give him red hair, that’ll really ingrain him as fictional!” And then I proceeded to make him as conventional and old-fashioned as possible, as well as Japanese, which also makes no sense.

Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did they get them?
He’s got a scar on his face, on his hand, and on his stomach. As for birthmarks I guess that’s also...his hair?

Who are your character’s friends and family? Who do they surround themselves with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who do they wish they were closest to?
Gorou’s only and closest friend right now is Kagetoki Manzou. Since Gorou’s kind of...under construction still, he’s not really focused on making as many friends as he can.

Where was your character born? Where have they lived since then? Where do they call home?
Gorou was born in Edo-era Japan, but I haven’t really decided what part of it he’s from, if that matters. It may in the future. He lived in Rukongai for a while and lives in Seireitei now.

Where does your character go when they’re angry?
Gorou tries to isolate himself when he’s angry, for now anyway. He doesn’t want to be around people when he’s angry becaaauuuse...

What is their biggest fear? Who have they told this to? Who would they never tell this to? Why?
Gorou is afraid of what he’ll do when he’s angry. He spent so long in Rukongai that his violent instincts are foreign to him, so much so that he tries to avoid indulging them as much as possible. Of course, when he’s already angry/riled up this isn’t a problem because he’s too preoccupied to worry about his own emotional state. It bugs him a lot that he even has this problem and probably wouldn’t ever tell anybody.

Do they have a secret?
Being a samurai isn’t a secret for him, and he’ll even tell people about the seppuku scar on his stomach. If anything, his secret would be that he killed a lot of people just because they were in front of him on the battlefield, and he’d become so enthralled by battle that whenever enemy soldiers fled the field, rather than take the victory he’d hunt them down and kill them one by one. The short version: Gorou was a homicidal, bloodthirsty man and it might be easy to think “Oh, he was a samurai so he was honorable and thus only killed for great justice,” when in reality it wasn’t that simple.

What makes your character laugh out loud?
Gorou doesn’t laugh

When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?
Gorou was in love, with the woman that would eventually be his wife. Of special note is the fact that she was the only person in his family that didn’t die before him.

What is in your character’s refrigerator right now? On their bedroom floor? On their nightstand? In their garbage can?
Gorou doesn’t have something as frivolous as a fridge. His floor is clean because he’s neat and not a slouch. On his nightstand is a lamp that’s always off because he doesn’t understand how to operate, and in his garbage can is basically just a bunch of cigarette butts and old tea leaves.

Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Do they wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are they in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are they wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by his grandmother?
Gorou wears wooden sandals when he’s out, and nothing when he’s visiting somebody’s home because he believes it’s polite to take his shoes off before entering a home.

When your character thinks of their childhood kitchen, what smell do they associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for them?
Gorou would probably remember...the smell of incense, since his father was a smith and came home smelling like a guy that’s been working on hot coals and tempered steel all day, and incense is a good way to try and cover that smell up.

Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for them to throw out? What is difficult for them to part with? Why?
Gorou keeps his room clean, because he’s ex-military and knows how to keep organized living quarters. Spring cleaning is for lazy people that can’t clean their rooms, not regimented samurai!

It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing? Give details. If they’re eating breakfast, what exactly do they eat? If they’re stretching out in their backyard to sun, what kind of blanket or towel do they lie on?
At noon, one of two things could be happening. Either he’s having tea and eating a snack, or Gunshin has challenged Gorou to their daily fight to the death which can take a while to resolve.

What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
Gorou was the youngest of five brothers, as his name might suggest. He felt very competitive with his older brothers, but they were all looking to apprentice with their father and become smiths. To show that he was an individual, he took one of his father’s display swords and challenged all of his brothers to a fight at once. The memory is lasting because he was too small for the big sword and ended up cutting his hand before anything could happen, and this event is what eventually caused his parents to send him off to a kendo dojo.

Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where are they going? What do they wear? Who will they be with?
Gorou typically only goes out for tea at night, and usually alone. No discotheques for this ginger.

Special guest star: Keiji from the Niii-I mean SRDI

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I have many great achievements! I once took apart an analog radio and turned it into a digital radio with the same parts! Although none of that would be possible had I not gotten into Seireitei in the first place, so I suppose the proper answer would either be being accepted into the academy or graduating from it as quickly as I did. They were both equally easy and yet made great impacts on my life...hmm...that’s quite interesting when I think about it...

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I’m a kid living in an extradimensional city where people live for eons, with a nigh-unlimited budget for whatever inventions I can think of and time to study any subject I like with hardly any supervision. Is there anything more I could ask for? Yes. I wouldn’t mind being taller.

What is your current state of mind?
I’m working on a very special project right now, and I’m excited because I think it’s going to work. I’m also really anxious for what’ll happen because of the war. I don’t know what to do other than continue my work.

What is your favorite occupation?
I may have answered this already, but emphasis is key in making a point that people will remember! Or so I’ve read...anyway! I’m living in an incredible place that’ll let me expand my horizons as I see fit, and every day I find more things to work on. There isn’t a better job anywhere! Well...I mean, I guess I wouldn’t argue with being transferred to the demolition sector...but...explosions are cool...

What is your most treasured possession?
I’ve got this box...well, I lost it, anyway it’s just a radio but it was also the first thing I ever invented. It’s really important to me, wherever it is.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Science! Well, technically the study of organic interaction with mechanical slash technological stimuli and implants, but science is a far...simpler...I’ll stop babbling...

What is your favorite journey?
Going anywhere in the living world is, without a doubt, my favorite thing to do. The skyscrapers are so tall!

What is your most marked characteristic?
Well...being roughly four feet tall and, to the untrained eye, appearing to be around twelve years old makes me kind of hard to miss...or easier...being short is tough!

When and where were you the happiest?
I can’t possibly pick just one time. I think the first time I learned to split an atom was fairly exciting, but nobody let me demonstrate my findings...so that was also very upsetting...

What is it that you most dislike?
I don’t like people that won’t adapt to new technology. Look, this device here can connect to anything with an electrical signal! And it tells time! And it plays Angry Birds!

What is your greatest fear?
I don’t know if shinigami get alzheimer’s disease. I’ve never looked into it because the thought of losing my intelligence is...terrifying.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Well, to be totally honest...sometimes when I type things into my Athena during important meetings...I’m actually on Grimbook updating my status.

Which living person do you most despise?
Anshinkan Raifuku, without a doubt.

What is your greatest regret?
I wasn’t part of the group that was attacked by Prometheus, unfortunately. I missed out on a huge opportunity to gather data on a Vasto Lorde! Who knows when that’s going to come along again?!

Which talent would you most like to have?
Oh my, there are so many choices! If I had to choose just one, though, it’d be technopathy since being tall isn’t necessarily a talent.

Where would you like to live?
Oh, this is definitely getting redundant. Seireitei is a giant extradimensional city of immortals and endless research into both magic and science. I’m already living there.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
When I figured out that I had died at a young age, I was pretty upset. I spent hours wondering if I was somebody’s son, and what kind of person I was, and if I was the same...aaahhh gosh, next question please!

What is the quality you most like in a man?
I don’t need to talk to genius-level scientists and researchers whose every step breaks ground in their given field, I can appreciate a civil conversation about nearly anything! I tend to ask a lot of questions, though, and because I take lots of caffeine and stimulants I have lots of energy! I also talk a lot because I have a lot of thoughts I like to express. Patience is important...is..is the core assertion I’m trying to...oh boy, next question...

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
I’m going to have to repeat myself again, but this time I can paraphrase! Patience is extremely important.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Oh, heck. I’d really like to be like those people that can curse a lot. Sometimes I say...carefully, the boy looks around and turns back...damn, but that’s as far as I can go. I don’t know why I don’t like to curse. Maybe I should be taking lessons from Prometheus! Hah! ...Good lord that was in bad taste...

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
I like to harp on people that dislike technology, but that’s more like a pet peeve of mine. I really don’t like people that don’t talk. I get uncomfortable when things are too quiet, and so I like to talk a lot to fill the gap. And meeting new people is a unique experience! We should strive to get to know another through verbal communication!

What do you most value in your friends?
I value honesty above all else. Because sometimes when your short friend wants to force hydrogen to undergo nuclear fission just to prove that he can, you need to look him in the eye and tell him not to try to blow everything up just to prove a point. And to not tell anybody about iii-oh...whoops...

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Just one!? But there are so many! I guess it’d be...Gordon Freeman, from that American video game. Because that’s the first time I’ve seen people really appreciate an engineer, in any media.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Well, multiple choice makes this easier, but I don’t know if I’d necessarily say anybody is my hero...I aspire to be as strong and vigilant as the Gotei’s captains...and to be as tall as Ishin...

Which living person do you most admire?
I know that everybody would expect me to start citing scientists and doctors that are researching things only I’ve ever heard of, but that’s not the case here. Because I’m still Japanese, and a kid, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I read manga sometimes too! I admire the author of Zombie Powder the most, because it’s a really fun read and doesn’t require too much thought. It’s too bad he never went on to do anything else, though...

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
As a scientist I’m supposed to say “Might does not always make right.” Well, sometimes might does make right, because there’s a science behind applying a certain amount of force in order to produce acceptable results. It’s called physics. And just because I can calculate the velocity at which Hadouken travels before it blows something fifty feet into the air, doesn’t mean I’m going to miss.

On what occasions do you lie?
I don’t like to lie...but when I do, it’s usually because I’m hiding something dangerous and I need to get away with it.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
You can’t overuse a word! In any given language, the words are there to be used!

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d definitely be taller, by about a foot. Two feet would be nice, but I don’t want to look down at anybody. I’d settle for eye contact with people!

What are your favorite names?
Not to be arrogant, but I like ‘Keiji’. It’s often used as a term for detectives, which makes me feel like a detective! A detective for knowledge, anyway.

How would you like to die?
I wouldn’t like to die, but I understand what’s meant by it, and I can’t answer because I don’t know. I think I’ll need to live for at least another thousand years, if not more, before I can say for sure.

If youwere to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
Hopefully something with a lifespan at least a decade long. I’m certain that life as an insect would be fascinating, but dying within a day certainly wouldn’t. Ideally, a person with full mental and physical faculties so I could still enjoy the world around me. Or rather, a tall person. I don’t want to be short or have a short lifespan.

What is your motto?
I like to tell my colleagues “Our work is never over,” because it’s true. There’s no room for a scientist to slow down or even stop, because there’s always more for us to do.

Presenting Maruyama Ilsa, vice-captain of the First Division!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Achieving bankai. How many shinigami ever reach that level of communion with their zanpakutou?

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Happiness, hahaha! Right. Seriously... I guess peace in Rukongai and the living world, so I could kick back and play with kidou, only occasionally needing to go swat a Hollow.

What is your current state of mind?

Pissed. Off. If I could kick the everloving hell out of Raifuku, I would. Not kill him, or not right away. No, I would beat him until I got some answers. Then I would feed him to Prometheus. Poetic justice is the best kind.

What is your favorite occupation?
I'm going to assume you mean "other than being a shinigami". It depends on whether I feel like reading in the sun or doing something physical. If it's the latter, I like to bake. Not that I get a chance to do so very often... I swear the paperwork on my desk breeds overnight.

What is your most treasured possession?
I consider Hinometori to be a person, so I'll say the necklace Sayis-soutaichou gave me after the Tenth Division Tournament.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Romantically? I don't have one. Platonically, Hinometori. I think we're closer emotionally than the majority of shinigami and zanpakutou spirits, even those with bankai. You never truly appreciate what you have until you lose it...

What is your favorite journey?
Going back to Rukongai to visit my parents.

What is your most marked characteristic?
Do you not know what I look like? And haven't you heard that people call me 'Valkyrie'?

When and where were you the happiest?
That's a hard one to answer. I was happy back in Rukongai, but I didn't really have any close friends. I guess it was back when I was unseated, before the situation with Tokyo and the Central Forty-Six blew up.

What is it that you most dislike?

Being separated from Hinometori.

What is your greatest fear?
The rage within me taking over. I try so hard to keep it under wraps, but when I see innocents or people I'm responsible for suffering and there's someone nearby I can reasonably blame it on, something inside me just snaps. It's a good thing Uchiharu can take the kind of high-level hadou I can dish out these days, and that we were on the tournament grounds. If I lost it on someone weaker than I am... I don't like to think about that.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Umm... good food, I guess. And paying Ninth Division members to take me to my parents' house for visits.

Which living person do you most despise?
Raifuku. If you're reading this, Raifuku, I will find a way to destroy you if someone else doesn't get there first!

What is your greatest regret?
Not realizing what was going on in the Prometheus mission soon enough to get us out. I should have called for a retreat sooner...

Which talent would you most like to have?
The Twelfth Division's Reiatsu no Senpuku would be pretty nice. So would Sayis-soutaichou's mastery of Shouaku. I keep meaning to ask him if he can teach me that.

Where would you like to live?
If I wasn't a shinigami? I rather liked the beach on Tahiti.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

You've seen my feelings regarding Hinometori above. You know about the collar. Connect the dots. I don't want to get into this, it's depressing.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
*blushes* Um... I have to pick one? Not being afraid of me, I think. I'm so big and I have so much reiatsu, I intimidate a lot of men. I need someone who can and will stand up to me even if he's smaller and/or has less reiatsu.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
See above. That's important in friends as well as boyfriends.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

See 'greatest fear'.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Arrogance. People who think they're so much better than everyone else because they happen to be born to a noble family, or happen to have a lot of reiatsu, or are shinigami in the human world. Yes, humans don't live as long as we do. Yes, most of them are not spiritually aware. Get over yourselves, people. Our souls all came from the same place, and they will all go into the same cycle of reincarnation when we die. (Except in the case of people killed by Quincies.)

What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty. People who will stick with you no matter what.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
I haven't read that much fiction, to tell the truth. We didn't have that luxury in Rukongai, and I've mostly been reading nonfiction since I arrived in Seireitei. Takashi-kun gave me a book of 'science fiction' by a human named David Weber a while ago, though, and his heroine Honor Harrington is the kind of military commander I want to be someday. She inspires her people to greater heights, she's an expert tactician and strategist, compassionate when it's called for but doesn't flinch when her duty calls her to use lethal force. And she has a sense of humor! What's not to like?

Whose are your heroes in real life?
*blushes again* Who's going to be reading this? Anyone in my division or the Tenth? Or the Fifth? Okay, I'm not answering that. It'll just embarrass both me and him. I have to work with him, you know... oh dear, I think that was one clue too many. Would you go back and delete that? ...come on, please?

Which living person do you most admire?
Uh, see above.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Honor. People use it as an excuse for all manner of things. And so many shinigami whine about kidou being "cheating" or "dishonorable"! I'll spar with zanjutsu only on the training field, but in real life, there's no such thing as a fair fight. There are only fights you win and fights you lose.

On what occasions do you lie?
Oh, come on, you seriously expect me to answer that? I blush at the drop of a hat anyway; lying is hard.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Not really a word, but I am a bit overly fond of semicolons.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Get rid of the rage issue. I don't care if it's character-building, sooner or later I'll end up frying someone with Souren Soukatsui or Hadouken outside the arena and injuring innocent bystanders if something doesn't change.

What are your favorite names?
I don't know, I've never thought about it.

How would you like to die?
Extreme old age, with all my wits still intact.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
A housecat. I like cats, and a cat with a loving person has a good life. Lay around in the sun, be petted, maybe chase mice once in a while if you feel like doing something.

What is your motto?
Without knowledge, action is useless. Without action, knowledge is futile. (That first part? Disregarding that is what got us into Raifuku's perverted maze game.)

Yep.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
“Rescuing Mouko without getting Ilsa or myself captured in the process.”

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
“Waking up and not wondering if I’ll spend the day fighting for my life.”

What is your current state of mind?
“Find the Vizard. Kill the Vizard. Find the Human. Get answers from the Human.”

What is your favorite occupation?
“If there is one entirely unappreciated job in this world, it has to be the doctors and medics that patch my sorry ass back together.”

What is your most treasured possession?
“None of your business.”

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
“I...uh...wait. When you say ‘love’...Oh. Err...you see...next question. Yes, now.”

What is your favorite journey?
“Journey’s don’t usually end well for me, but that trip to Vancouver was pretty fun.”

What is your most marked characteristic?
*deadpan* “Either you’re making fun of me or don’t know what to pick. Neither option ends well for you.”

When and where were you the happiest?
“When I broke through Aki’s mental conditioning and got my imouto back.”

What is it that you most dislike?
“People who try to pull the strings behind the scenes.”

What is your greatest fear?
“Becoming what Chimera wanted me to be.”

What is your greatest extravagance?
“Extrava-...what? I...the cloak...I guess..? I don’t know, any number of things really. I guess that one time I cut off Masato’s fingers was pretty cool, as well as that whole ‘saving Ciro’s life’ thing I do.”

Which living person do you most despise?
“CIRO I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU TOOK MY LAST MISO-SOBA NOODLE PACKAGE THEN NO FORCE ON EARTH WILL HIDE YOU!”

What is your greatest regret?
“Not killing my mother sooner. No, that wasn’t a joke. Does it look like I’m joking? Shut up, no I don’t care that the eye makes it hard to tell.”

Which talent would you most like to have?
“Depth perception.”

Where would you like to live?
“Kind of want my penthouse back, now that you mention it.”

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?’
“Everyone I have ever known or cared about thus far has wound up dead. Throw a healthy dose of emotional and mental trauma from memetic manipulation and implantation, and you have my average weekend. I really don’t want to think about a worst-case scenario.”

What is the quality you most like in a man?
“I...wait...what? Don’t give me that look! Next question, now.”

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
“If my psychotic tendencies somehow don’t cause problems, I’m fairly sure the fact that I’m more riddled with scars than most war veterans might. Romance is pretty much not the foremost thing on my priority list.”

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
“I guess you could call it...anger management...issues?”

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
“If you try and shove your ‘greater good’ bullshit down my throat I’ll shove it somewhere else.”

What do you most value in your friends?
“The ability to not die. Seriously, I wasn’t joking earlier.”

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
“Look me in the eye and tell me The Flash isn’t the coolest motherfucker ever. I dare you.”

Whose are your heroes in real life?
“Heroes don’t exist. There are simply those who manage to get their own point across better than others.”

Which living person do you most admire?
“The Flash. What, he’s real! Right...?

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
“Any fool can call himself fearless. It’s the true fighters that’ll push past the fear they know they have.”

On what occasions do you lie?
“Whenever it’s not obvious.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“I tend to ramble about choices. Like the choice I made on this survey to give you a really cryptic answer.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“Again, depth perception. Kinda want it back.”

What are your favorite names?
“The. Mother. Fucking. Flash.”

How would you like to die?
“The way I came into thisrld: screaming and bathed in blood.”

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
“I feel this point has been made before, but I’ll say it as many times as I goddamn want to. Flash, make me him. I will fucking do it, someday.”

What is your motto?
“What you call hell, I call home.”

help i can't stop myself

ROUND II

March
No Interviewers Were Harmed in the Making of This Transcript

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

“Assassinating Kennedy.

“HA! Got you there, didn’t I? I’m only kidding, you timid little dear.

“...Or am I?

“Haha, no, but really I am. There’s no need to look so nervous!

“...Probably.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

“Getting married to Sayis – I’d be the bride! – and moving into a Barbie-doll Dreamhouse and having one-point-five children and one of those little family dogs every family needs to be a real family and becoming the best housewife ever until the day I die of natural causes, asleep in my beddy-bye. Yaaaaaay!

Pffffffffft, this is going to be a silly interview, isn’t it? Perfect happiness, hee. Oh you’re so silly I could just die. Or you could. I’m impartial, really!”

What is your current state of mind?

“Oh, I love musicals!~

“Some folks like to get away!~
Take a holiday from the neighborhood.~
Hop a flight to Miami Beach,~
Or to Hollywood.~
But me, I'm talking a Greyhound...
On the Hudson River Line!~

I'm in a New York state of mind!~

What is your favorite occupation?

“Personally, I’m a big fan of the occupation of Poland. It’s not too soon to say that, is it? I mean, that had to have been eons ago; the world is so much more civilized these days! None of that genocide and murder and hostile takeover business, no sir.

“...HA! Just kidding again, honeybun. You know me – March the kidder, that’s who I am! I think that what this world needs is more psychologists, really. Think about it. If everyone just had someone to talk to, someone to tell all their deepest, darkest, most personal secrets, I bet things like Nazi Germany would never have been a thing at all!”

What is your most treasured possession?

“My dazzling good looks, of course! And my award-winning personality. I would have said my clothes, but I never keep any of those long enough to get really attached to them.”

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

“Well, duh! Sayis, of course.~ My love for him knows no bounds. He is my honeybunch, sugarplum, pumpi-umpi-umpkin. He’s my sweetie-pie. He’s my cuppy-cake, gumdrop. He’s my snoogums-boogums, he’s the apple of my eye.~ And I love him so, and I want him to know that I’ll always be right here!

“And I love to sing sweet songs to him because~

~he~

~is~

~so~

~deaaaaaaaaar.~~~”

What is your favorite journey?

“The one that begins with a single step.~”

What is your most marked characteristic?

“My dashingly handsome smile, I’m sure.”

When and where were you the happiest?

“All the time and everywhere! I’m always at my happiest, don’tcha know? That’s the secret to my eternal life and youthful good looks.”

What is it that you most dislike?

Wednesdays. Just look at it. Look at that word. Wednesday. Wednesdays. It doesn’t make any sense! It isn’t pronounced Wed-nes-day, oh no, but if you ever want to spell it right, you’d better be thinking ‘wed-nes-day’ to yourself, because if you try to spell it ‘wens-day’, you’ll be wrong. Every. Time. It’s ridiculous, is what it is. It ruins my day every time I ask ‘what day is it?’ and someone replies ‘wensday’. It’s a total buzzkill.

“I’m pulling your leg, fruit loop! I already told you that I’m always happy! Nothing can get me down! Not even blue-eyed blonds that just flew in from Russia, oh no. Absolutely nothing!

What is your greatest fear?

“As in, my most awesome fear? Well let’s just shove the ‘me’ out of the equation – we all know that I am afraid of no one, no thing, no place, and no body – So! Know what’s an awesome fear? Paraskavedekatriaphobia, which is, of course, the fear of paraskavedekatrias.

“BUT! Just to humor you, I’ll let you in on another super-duper-secret of mine. C’mere! No, no, I wouldn’t trick you. We’re buddies, you and I. A little closer...a liiiittle closer....whoa now, that’s close enough! We don’t want this to get all M-for-Mature up in here, do we?

“Now, this is just between you and me, isn’t it? No one else is going to hear this, are they? Well, yeah, of course, they’re going to hear it, they always hear everything, nosy little stinkers! I meant, no one else besides everyone? Alright, I’ll tell you. Sometimes, sometimes, sometimes...I’m afraid that...well, that I might not be right in the head. It’s a crazy thing to be afraid of, sure, considering how very left in the head I am...but there it is, nonetheless!

“...Hello? Yes, hello. Yes, you. I need another question-giver, please. Mine seems to be...ah...

“...dead. Of course I didn’t do it! Who do you take me for?! No, no, she and I were just sharing a few secrets with one another and all of a sudden her neck broke!”

What is your greatest extravagance?

“Aww, no more scantily-clad little interviewer-ettes? Ah well! You’ll do just fine, I’m sure! No pressure – regardless of what those silvery-tongued people might’ve told you, I never kill.

“Anyway, my greatest extravagance is my duds. Duh! A gentleman of my stature can’t be seen in your everyday toe rags, can he? No he cannot. A shame about my line of work, really. I go through more stylish, personalized outfits with strange color schemes than you would believe! And, incidentally, more tailors than you would believe. You know, I could just make the darn things myself, but seeing the looks on their faces when I submit my orders...that’s half of the fun of it, right there!”

Which living person do you most despise?

“You know, they say that a person hasn’t truly died until he has been completely forgotten. But since that saying is stupid and so is whoever says it, let’s ignore it.

“It’s a tie! Since Schroe isn’t a person or living, it’s a tie between every living person currently in existence! Since I am obviously too nice to despise anyone, everyone loses. Which means that everyone wins, too. Yaaaay! Kazoo, anyone? We need some confetti in here, stat!

What is your greatest regret?

“Forgetting I was supposed to be boarding the Titanic on April 15, 1912. I must have stayed out late partying – you know how it is. A shame, though – I heard that its maiden voyage was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Which talent would you most like to have?

“The ability to lick my elbow. No, hold the phone – let me add an addendum! The ability to lick my elbow without any breaks, sprains, dislocations or dismemberments required.

“I’d also consider the ability to play video games without inevitably breaking gaming consoles, controllers, televisions, coffee tables, couches, and-or limbs to be a talent worth having.”

Where would you like to live?

“Carmen, Sandiego. I don’t know where in the world it is, but it’s got a catchy sound to it, doesn’t it?

“...Say what?

“A woman? You must be kidding, I—

“...well would you look at that. It is a woman. Haha, well never let it be said that March is never wrong! I don't know why anyone would say that in the first place, but LET IT NEVER BE SAID! Thank you for clearing that up, you kind sir! And speaking of clearing things up!

“Hi, again! It’s me.~ Wha—no, of course I...well, yes, yes, the interviewer is dead, but I didn’t kill him! .....Why, natural causes of course! I am serious! Maybe you should look into hiring some interviewers that are more immune to dying!”

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

“Hi there! I’m March! I’m sure the two of us will get along just swimmingly! ...You know, you don’t look like the journalist type. Way too many muscles. ...Oooh, I see. Well, it doesn’t get much more simple than reading questions off a little white sheet and writing the answers down, does it? Good luck, friend!~

“Now, let me think. Hmmm. Well, in my expert opinion, I would have to say that the lowest depth of misery is when one is at their most miserable. I wouldn’t know anything about that personally, though, because I am an eternal ray of sunshine!”

What is the quality you most like in a man?

“A firm hand, of course. That way I know he can keep his hoes in line.”

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

“The ability to stay in line. Yup, I like my women like I like my farming tools: ancient, versatile, and used primarily in the business of agriculture. If you know what I mean.~”

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

“Sometimes it’s a curse, how positively radiant, charming, and good-looking I am. I can barley get things done, some days, what with all the swooning citizens and grabby fans trying to get a piece of this.”

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

“A poor sense of humor. I mean, really. Really. Some people just cannot take a joke. They get all bent out of shape, then they start yelling, then they end up dialing nine-one-one just because they’re bleeding from a little ole’ puncture wound and that means the police get involved and I get arrested and then – things just escalate, you know?

“Everyone could take a few lessons from me; life is meant to be sporadic and fun! Longevity is overrated!”

What do you most value in your friends?

Ahahaha – my what now?”

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

“Satan!

“Or is it the Devil?

“Lucifer? Samael? Oh, religious mythology is so confusing sometimes. Still, he seems like a pretty decent fellow. I’m a big fan of the War in Heaven idea and rebellion against God and all that. I’m all for rebellious figures, don’t you know!

“Plus, last I heard it, Lucifer had humans pinned as silly little things right from the get-go! There’s a guy that had his not-real head on straight.”

Who are your heroes in real life?

“All the men and women who put their lives on the line protecting innocent lives, their countries, and our way of life!

...Pf.....pff...N-no, no, I m-mean...I mean it. Really I do! Hahaha, I, I, I just get s-so happy thinking about it—!

Which living person do you most admire?

Goodness, what is with all the questions about who I idolize and admire and who my heroes are? Is there some hidden agenda in this interview? You aren’t trying to get a, a, psychological profile from this, are you? ‘Cause I think other people have already got that all covered.

“Hee, to answer you, though – Have you met Adam Victor? Tall guy, speaks hilarious Japanese, blond hair and sunglasses? Prone to violence? Has a dark doppelganger friend that he may or may not use to bash your skull into various surfaces? Yeaaah – I don’t admire him, I was just wondering if you knew him! He’s an odd guy.

"Oh, oh. Don’t try to murder him when he’s sleeping. He doesn’t appreciate it at all. That relates back to my ‘people need a sense of humor’ thing, ya know.”

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

“The most overrated virtue? Like...you want me to...to...pick one?

“Sorry, lemon drop, you’re asking the impossible there.~”

On what occasions do you lie?

“Never! I never, ever lie. I have not lied a single time in all of my life – cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.~

“...Actually, never mind the needle bit. I’d rather keep any and all needles away from and out of my eyes, please and thank you! Oh – oops! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do that.

“Excuse me, we need – yep. Yes, already! Yes, well, it isn’t my fault! He’s the one who started it.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

“I never overuse anything. I use words and phrases just the right amount. It’s another one of my infinite and amazing talents.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

“Not a thing. I’m perfect ~just ~the way ~I am.~

“...No, wait, I take that back!

“...I want to have red eyes. Red. Eyes. I mean, how cool and edgy would THAT be? And I wouldn’t have to run around looking for colored contact lenses all the time!”

What are your favorite names?

“Oh, names. Names are so much fun, aren’t they? They tell you so much about a person! You know, that’s why I change mine so very often, dear; there’s just so much about me, there’s no way one name could tell it all!

“Hahaha, oooh, but I digress. I don't have a favorite name! I love so many, it'd be impossible to pick.~”

How would you like to die?

“Hahahahaha---ahahahaha---ohmy—I, I can’t—hahahahahahaaa...haa...A-ahahahaha! AHAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHAAAHHAAAHAHAHAAAAHAHAAAHHAAA!! A-ha...a...a-ha...haaaaah. Oooh, my stomach. Oh gosh. Oh, hang on, I think I’m crying. Don’t suppose you have a tissue or something, do you? No? Of course not, sour-puss.

“Hang on, I have an idea. Rather than try to explain this one to you, I’ll give a demonstration! Hands-on!

“...

“...

“...

“...Hm. Ew. Aww...There goes another outfit. Excuse me, guys! Yes, I think we need another interviewer over here! This one got blood all over the place and isn’t asking me questions anymore! ....Not my fault!

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

“..Really? This isn’t any fun! Part of an interview is the face-to-face interaction, the personal contact, the—

“...Was it that many? It felt like less for some reason! Look, I can understand your discomfort – but a little janitorial work, a little scrubbing here and there to get the blood out of the carpet, and we’ll be right as rain! COLOR]

“...No? Okay. I just feel silly talking to an intercom, is all. See, you guys could use a better sense of humor too! But, no, no. It’s fine. It’s fine. I don’t care! Really!

“I’d like to come back as a spirit of death and vengeance, ready to destroy the lives of all those who have spurned me...or refused to give me a proper interview...

“No, not you! Gosh! Honestly, you’re just being paranoid now.”

What is your motto?

“‘For me, insanity is super sanity. The normal is psychotic. Normal means lack of imagination, lack of creativity.’ Jean Dubuffet.~

"...What am I doing? Can't you tell? I’m picking the lock on the door of course! The interview’s over, isn’t it, and all good interviews end with a handshake, so I’m headed up to meet you. Oh, no, please, don’t get up. I’ll be right there.~

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I was wondering whether I should be honest or not, but since it seems like you won't care I will tell you the truth: Killing the man who murdered my parents and the woman whom I once loved.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Hard one. I think knowing that I can bend and cause people to do things just because they fear me... But I'm not sure.

What is your current state of mind?
Content. And excited as well.

What is your favorite occupation?
What? Besides this one? This is a hard one as well, since I've only had one other occupation. To be honest, it will be this one -- a shinigami.

What is your most treasured possession?
My sword, there's no doubt about that.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
A man once said killing is the sweetest thing there is. I don't know what happened to him, but it is difficult to disagree...

What is your favorite journey?
Life, dear. If you think on that scale, there is no other journey.

What is your most marked characteristic?
If by that you mean what people can identify me with, it is certainly my... personality, although my looks do factor in as well.

When and where were you the happiest?
It is difficult to choose... a few days ago, when I was hugging Kits as I said farewell, or a few days before that as I slid my blade into Kazunari's belly. I would like to go with the first one, if I had to choose.
What is it that you most dislike?
It would be unfair to answer by saying "the world" because there are many things in the world that I like, like me. However, the thing in the world that I dislike the most, out of all the shit that happens, is the countless people that make life an annoyance and serve no purpose at all.

What is your greatest fear?
I would have said a slow, painful death... but I have yet to accept another, greater fear. The death of my friend, Kitsune.

What is your greatest extravagance?
My gigai's clothes. Or how I like to extravagantly kill people...

Which living person do you most despise?
You should have asked me this a few weeks ago! The person I despised the most lived then, but now she's dead because I put a sword to her throat. It is hard to pick now, but I guess it would be the person in the Central 46 who makes afterlife so horrible. I guess all of them have a part in it, but I'd pick the guy who has the most influence in their bad decisions.

What is your greatest regret?
Love.

Which talent would you most like to have?
The ability to inspire awe and fear. Such an ability is achievable, and I am working on it.

Where would you like to live?
A place as beautiful as the Earth but with none of the horrors that are done in it.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Failure to do what you must. I would not say death because death is the end of everything, including misery. However, if you live to see what the failure of a goal has bought for you, you will be a very miserable person indeed.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
What, as a potential love interest or in general? I will go with the latter for simplicity's sake: a man who accepts that the world is rotten, although some flowers grow on it.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Urgh, are you trying to get me to do a sexist joke? Again, I'll choose to say the quality I like in a woman generally, not as a love interest. And it is the same as the quality I'd like in a man, because people are people, and gender should not matter when we want to change the world.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
None. Haha, if you'd asked me half a century ago, I would have said my inability to protect and my short-sightedness, but today I am perfectly content with myself.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Ignorance... and this automatic barrier strangers create between themselves. I think if we received strangers with more friendliness, the world will be a better place.

What do you most value in your friends?
I'm not sure... I love everything about Kitsune... I guess it's how she accepts me for who I am?

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
*looks around warily and leans in* I would say Masaru because half the tales we hear about him are fiction, but the pedantic historians will have a fit and Masaru was a real person. *leans back* But my favourite hero of fiction Lady Stoneheart (aka Catelyn Stark) from the A Song Of Ice And Fire series. She's not a hero, but deeds make heroes, and I like what she does. I won't spoil it for you, so go read the books.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Excellent grammar, love. Who was your English teacher? A baboon? Anyway, it is hard to find a real life hero, because there is no such thing. But anyone who has done great deeds even though their beginnings were small -- they are great people. But not heroes.

Which living person do you most admire?
I don't know many living people, but I assume you mean a person who's living this glorious after-life Soul Society has inflicted upon us. In that case, I still don't have many. The Soutaichou is admirable, seeing as he was an Unseated officer only a few years ago. However, he probably does not share my view on the world and my view on killing, so I don't admire him that much.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Oh, I can think of a few... fearlessness, love, loyalty. However, the most overrated one is hope, because it leads people to do utterly stupid things to no end.

On what occasions do you lie?
Every occasion. And I'm even lying now.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
"Love" while addressing people, even though I abhor the concept. Other than that, my speech is as varied and diverse as the Hollows of Las Noches, and because of that, I can be a very entertaining person.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My ability to distance others from me.

What are your favorite names?
"James" and "Dossier". Also "Charlie", "Kitsune" and "Jose" with the accents.

How would you like to die?
I'd rather not die...? But if I had to die, I would like to die happy. Although I'm not sure about what happy means...

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
A lamp. No, something more... ambitious... A vial of poison. That way I could cause pain to and kill a person from the inside.

What is your motto?
Life is unfair. People are bastards. I do not care.

"Name: Adelaide Pierce. Age: Two hundred. God, I'm old., Gend--- wait, you already have this written down? And that says I'm 198? Blimey, let's go with that, then."

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
A friend and I built a tea shop. That was really satisfying. Professionally, I'd say it probably was being better at kidou than Takimoto Kago is.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
When I'm not well, and Brooke... B-R-O-O-K-E A-I-N-S-L-E-Y. Got it? Okay. Yeah. When she cares for me, nurses me back to health. I've been known to be reckless just to have excuses to go to the Fourth. Err... I mean, you were probably expecting something more like 'Hot tea, hot women, and hot combat! Raaah!" Yeah.

What is your current state of mind?
Honestly? A bit bothered. I've got some problems I just haven's shaken, but I'm really trying not to let it crush my whimsy and caprice. People like my whimsy and caprice.

What is your favorite occupation?
Tea hostess. It was almost relaxing to a point of zen.

What is your most treasured possession?
My books. Knowledge is more valuable than kan could ever be, and books are the treasure chests in which knowledge is found. No wait, that's too cheeky of an answer. How about my bracelets. They're made of bankai, you know.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Brooke. I'm not sure if I ever really realized it until recently. Is five months too soon to love someone? I'm pretty new at this relationship thing. But I'm confident in my answer. She isn't going to read this right? Can you erase all that? I mean, yeah. Clearly it's too soon.
Ah, sod it. I love Brooke! There, I said it. Hey are you even paying attention anymore?

What is your favorite journey?
When I was young, just shy of one hundred, I traveled from the Thirty First of West Rukongai to the Second, and really made the most of it. No rush, just met people, the kindness of strangers, and such. It's really the journey, isn't it? Not the destination. I think any time you really decided to make the most of traveling, instead of just rushing about, you're bound to enjoy it.

What is your most marked characteristic?
Umm, my hair, maybe? I mean, it's pretty nice, isn't it? The ponytail is a new addition, but I think I wear it well.

When and where were you the happiest?
A couple years before I became a shinigami I worked in a tea shop, The Amber Teahouse owned by Sara Fujeda. Life was simpler, and I got free tea. And women from all over visited, because it was something of a lavender business, and that worked wonders for my less evolved years. Honestly, it was sublime.

What is it that you most dislike?
Lucas Morrison?

What is your greatest fear?
Letting down someone who needs my help, or who believes in me. Cheesy, sure, but when someone does right by me or someone needs my help, I owe it to them to be there.

What is your greatest extravagance?
What day of the week is it? I have hairpins, scarves, recklessness, a fez. Bows, literally for everything. It isn't that I'm vain, or anything, but I like to have some flair. To stand out, you know?

Which living person do you most despise?
Oh, wow. I try not to "despise" anyone. I mean, there's plenty of people I don't like, but despise... yeah, that's not really a word I like to use about people.

What is your greatest regret?
I think, if I hadn't tried to put that damned fire out, I might've really made something of myself in life. Funny, if I hadn't lived the message that women can do what men can, I probably would've been able to be famous for writing it.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I have all the talents that matter ... ehehehehehe ... I mean, um, I'd like to be better at blending my magic and sword skills. After leaving the Eighth, I traded away a lot of that.

Where would you like to live?
London. I really miss it. And, I mean my London, not that blasted thing they have now.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Being unloved.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
Hmm... the ones I respect the most are the ones who do the right thing regardless of the consequences. And the alcoholics. But moreso from the first category.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
There's the shallow things; skin, hair, the bits I can't talk about in an interview... but again, at the risk of radically changing my public image, I like eccentricity. A spark, a certain je ne sais quoi that makes their personality ignite, you know what I mean? That's what makes someone one in a million. Also, I do appreciate it when they're lesbians.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Another word I don't really use. It sounds so melodramatic. Still, I guess it would be the fact that my abilities never really meet my goals. I want to be able to protect all that I cherish, but I'm still so far away from that. Maybe one day, but not any time soon.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
That word again, huh? Well, I suppose it'd be arrogance. Because a certain path has treated you well in life, you don't have the right to judge the paths of others. I probably violate this from time to time myself, as I figure most people do, but when its core to who you are as a person that something about you makes you better than everyone else... I can't stand that.

What do you most value in your friends?
Humor and integrity. Maybe it sounds like I'm trying to give two answers, everyone I count among my friends has at least a bit of both.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Absurd though it may seem, Don Quixote. That's the noblest quest, dreaming the impossible dream. I hear there are songs about him on Earth these days, celebrating the Man of La Mancha. I'm glad that they're celebrating him.

Whose are your heroes in real life?
Sappho is practically a Saint to me, but if you're looking for something more practical, probably Sir Winston Churchill. I'm really sad I never got to meet him. I've been reading about him lately and he truly is a marvelous figure, to say nothing of his saving my home from the forces of evil. And he really knew how to make the most of life.

Which living person do you most admire?
Using a looser definition of "alive", I'd probably say Captain Mikeru. She manages to combine beauty and power in a way that I can only poorly emulate. There's an elegance to her I am extraordinarily jealous of.
Also, Captain Anenokoji. He's noble, both in a literal and figurative sense. He took a chance on me when it was remarkably foolish to do so. I think of him like a father.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Chastity. There's no greater expression of what it is to be human than that which that particular virtue denies us. Denying yourself any worldly joy doesn't make you somehow more holy, or more pure, it just makes you more dull and less alive, figuratively speaking. I do thing that people ought to be prudent with their decisions, and wise, but chaste? Never.

On what occasions do you lie?
For the greater good? Usually if it would protect someone - especially me - from some terrible reality or consequences. Sometimes a mission necessitates dishonesty.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I've been told I say "Sweet Sappho" a lot.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Younger? No, no... I wish my talents were a bit more diverse. I wouldn't mind taking up acting or singing or something artsy. I've never been that great at expressing the more sentimental side of myself, at least not until the past few years, so heading into my next century, that's something I'll work on, I think

What are your favorite names?
I really like Cassandra. Cassandra's a good name. And Holly.

How would you like to die?
Again? Not a fire, that's for damn sure. No... I really don't care how I go, so long as its 300 years from now in Brooke's arms.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
Not Margaret Thatcher? I don't really know, to tell you the truth. I'll find out when I get there.

What is your motto?
"You only live..." no wait... umm... how about "Fortune favors the bold"?
