OPERATION: CRASHING THUNDER
WARNING: Network "SIREN" compromised.
WARNING: Location "Shikaku Haretsu" compromised.
WARNING: Location "Sougi" compromised.
WARNING: Situation level "Class III Crisis" initiated.

The interwoven fractals of Tokyo linked together clearly. Every move fell prey to the all-seeing eye of his awakening. Tracked with unerring accuracy, extrapolated and mapped out, dozens of possible paths diverged upon the main relay of the SIREN network.

For his part he remained stationed farther away, currently in a large industrial complex neighboring the relay tower. The imposing Noblesse was wielded with efficiency befit of a sniper of his caliber. However, throughout, a tenseness knotted in his stomach.

“We move as a group,” Caleb announced to the gathered members of the repair unit, “With comms down we have no easy way to reach the other groups. Those who are non-combat stay towards the center. We move on my mark.”

He gazed out the exit, the heavily damaged tower still alight with flames and manic sparks. The path was littered with debris, leaving only a few possible options open. The gunmetal structure reflected the red and orange hues of a burning Tokyo.

Right arm raised, he signaled their departure.

Tatiana is at 4% Resonance as of this turn, awakening is active:
Grey Mouse
By paying 100 rei per round, Tatiana hides in plain sight.

Simply, she is still there but becomes less noticeable; she falls beneath their conscious awareness. Using this Tatiana could walk calmly into a secure government building, watch a top secret meeting while standing in a corner, and walk out. Even security teams watching cameras would not see her even upon reviewing the tape.

This effect is universal unless she does something extremely noticeable like firing a weapon, picking a lock, or running down the street stark naked. People of at least twice her reiatsu realize she is there, perhaps faded slightly.

“As you say, just get me close,” a thick Irish accent followed his fluent Japanese. A feat only possible due to the phone that acted like his own personal Babel fish, tucked away in a pocket of his combat vest. What an odd feeling, having a combat vest on. Normally Colin was used to t-shirts and slacks while fixing the odds and ends of the Cerberus Fukushima base. Being back in Tokyo was nostalgic, although he wished he was seeing his girl on better terms.

Tatiana, meanwhile, stood closer to the front of the group and out of perception to some of them. Move as a group, but she would be an advanced scout. Her ability cloaked her presence to all but those more spiritually capable than herself. On her back was the repair tools Colin said he would need, far easier for her to carry. Normally she would have smirked at his lack of physical strength, but not after what was happening. With practiced discipline the Russian signaled that she too was ready to move out.

Off to the left hand side of the Orpheus agent stood a short girl with a pair of small black horns on top of her head that poked out of her flame red hair. A look of mild annoyance hung on her face as she bowed her head and proceeded to run her thumbs above eyes, just along the socket indentation under her brows. Tokyo had been burning for sometime now, and the smoke was starting irritate the Vizard's sinuses however so slightly.

Blue eyes snapped open as the agent began to give an order on when to move, and a man with a thick accent that the girl couldn't quite place replied. Moriyama Tokiwa had been fortunate enough to find her way into a group of like minded individuals, those who could appreciate an excellent component when they saw one, or didn't mind pulling long nights in a lab.

Long ago, she had joined the Ninth to find a group like this, it actually felt kind of nice to have it back again; no matter how temporary the situation. This time, unlike the years spent under Rakushun, she was going into something with combat knowledge...and something else inside with it's own dark tendencies. As always, the plan was not to let that part bubble at the surface if it could be helped.

Nothing should go too wrong today, and if it does we're ready. Toki thought to herself and to her inner hollow, Waruagaki. A low rumble was her reply from the demon, and with it a smile appeared on her face as the group began to move out towards the marred relay tower in the distance.

[280/280]

Rising up from among a number of smaller, square-sided office buildings, the round comm tower was a unique combination of futuristic and forgettable. The outside of the tall round spire was a dull slate grey until the topmost quarter, which then switched to a gleaming metallic blue. From its broad base, the tower tapered to almost half the width before suddenly widening again in a broad, flat disc covered in radar dishes and antennae.

No flames engulfed the building, or the surrounding area, though black and grey clouds of smoke drifted lazily around the eerily silent structures. The street leading to the entrance of the comm tower was completely empty: no citizens, no personnel, no rescue operatives.

When the group approached, however, they saw that the sole entrance at the base of the tower was obstructed by cold black spikes, each as thick as a person's waist, coils of smoke slipping around them. The air around them began to pulse, a weak but nagging sensation of reiryoku, its source unknown. It waxed and waned, never seeming to settle on a particular strength.

With no other doors or windows available, they would have to enter by force, or not at all.

[200/200]

As Caleb approached, the uneasy feeling of the corrupted reiatsu began to feel all the more imposing. Where was everyone? The SIREN network was one of most important facets of Orpheus Tokyo. He would have expected the communications relay to at least be manned with a guard duty, not to mention those who actually ran the facility.

He slowed to the stop, reaching the barricaded front entrance. The thick black spikes of reiatsu were imposing to say the least, but the discordant pulsing of the ambient energy was much more worrying to him. Tapping back into the mental map that his awakening afforded him, the area around the communication tower was simply static to him.

“I’d say we should analyze whatever this is first, but right now we don’t have the luxury of time,” he mentioned before reaching forward to touch the closest spike. He grasped it with his superhuman strength, slowly bending it open. The surface was somewhat cool to touch, made of a texture he couldn’t identify. In successive turns, he bent the others, opening the path inside once again. The obscured depths clouded with unknown reiatsu seemed to beckon the group to enter.

The operative looked back towards the remainder of the group, “Ready? Because here’s where things are going to get messy.” With cautious steps, he entered the structure.

[393]

"They don't have to," a deep, oddly accented voice replied from deeper inside the entranceway. The reiatsu pulsing briefly grew frighteningly strong, then became pathetically weak, every pulse a different strength than the one before. In front of Caleb, a towering silhouette could just be made out in the unlighted hallway.

The unknown figure's hand pressed against the wall and suddenly the entryway flashed with light: the bent spikes, shafts of metal tearing through the walls, a myriad of smaller, jagged metal teeth protruding from the floors, walls, and ceiling... all of them began to cast off red light, black metal becoming an almost crystalline crimson lit from within by an unknown source. The light pulsed in time with the reiatsu, dimming and brightening, like a beating heart.

The man who stood in front of them was a giant, nearly seven feet tall if not larger, with densely muscled and broad shoulders. Mature but not yet old, the giant's eyes were full of apathy but the set of his thick, clean-shaven jaw suggested he would not be moved. In the carmine glow, color was difficult to discern, but his shaggy hair was light, and he wore a light, buttoned dress shirt with dark slacks tucked into sturdy combat boots.

The man took one step forward, trailing his fingers along the red metal in the wall. Behind him, the next doorway was entirely blocked off by a latticework of the pulsing red metal. There was a rattling of metal chains from somewhere behind him. "Leave now, and nothing needs to get messy." Although his Japanese was good, there was a hint of Russian accent to the words. "There is no reason to fight here, if you just turn around," he stated coldly. "I won't offer you another chance if you persist."

[300/500]

Swallowing deeply Colin reached up to his mouth with a mock gasp at the sight of the man. Instead he swallowed the Anacyr pill that would help him with what was very likely going to be coming next.

Get to the side, out of the way, there’s no good automated machines here for me, the Irishman told himself with a short step to the left. Still he did a quick scan of the ominous man within the entrance even as his limbs grew heavier, and reached out mentally for anything wireless. Nothing at all, the titan of a man was more tech dead than the Amish save the watch that ticked away to a different beat from this light. Damn, no tech to work with. Who the hell didn’t even carry a phone in the modern era?

Tatiana took a stance just off to the right side of the front of the group. With how strong this man was he surely realized she was there. But just in case she held her ability true and idled with her rifle ready to snap up and shoot at a moment’s notice. The blonde merely glanced towards Caleb for any indication of how to proceed.

[201/378]

Tatiana is at 8% Resonance, Colin also hit 8% from activating Anacyr.

The sound like static hissed from the shadows behind the group before, with a pop and a muted flash of arcane energy, Ryouma Katou blinked into being. Above and behind him the diminutive form of Kaisen Karakuri's command module bobbed up and down obediently, its banks of glowing blue eyes rolling over the scene before turning to focus on its master, letting out a few errant beeps. Giving the hovering robot an affirmative nod, it was as though he understood what the strange noises meant.

"This one has come to render assistance," the mechanist pipped up as he sauntered towards the front of the group. "...Ryouma Katou. Service number one three five nine nine eight two four one nine. Initiative Orpheus advanced paranormal arma--"

One of the gathered agents shot Rune a glare, while making a short hissing noise and bringing his finger to his lips. Taking a moment to parse the information, the blue-haired mechanist finally took notice of their foe blocking the way -- though he was more interested in the strange material barricading the entrance rather than the man himself. Willing his floating companion forward, the tiny mechanical construct swooped between the red, metallic spires deftly before centring itself over one of the larger crystalline constructs. A dull whirring sounded as a thin beam of cutting light exuded from the machine's 'mouth' area, attempting to cut away a small chunk of the mystery substance.

"Curious."

"Great, of all the obstacles possible we get the giant Russian." The horned Vizard muttered under her breath as her blue eyes locked onto the towering man that stood within the entryway of the round communications tower. The pulsating reiatsu of their foe sent a shiver down her spine has it grew slowly then dissipated again and again with a red glow.

A nervous knot formed inside the girl's stomach, but as always she wasn't about to let it show on the outside. It wasn't so much pushing the feelings aside as it was hiding them from those on her team. The hollow that dwelt inside of her demanded it, anything less would be showing weakness, an act that went against it's core instincts for survival.

Resting her right hand against the hilt of her zanpakutou, the former scientist was hesitant to draw the blade just yet. The last thing she wanted was to push the man into attacking before everyone was prepared. She was even more hesitant to call upon her mask, such a move performed too soon could be even worse then reaching for her wakizashi.

Yet, everything inside Toki told her swipe her hand down over her face, to don Waruagaki's mask. In a small slip, the redhead bit her lower lip out of anxiety before quickly checking the action. She'd wait for the leader's signal, whatever it may be.

[233/513]

An audible grunt of annoyance could be heard as Caleb found himself suddenly stopped by the hulking Russian. Of course this wouldn’t be a simple repair mission. As he attempted to think out his possible options, Rune’s sudden ‘scientific experiment’ threw a wrench, or more accurately a laser into his plans.

Then again, Caleb Fletcher wasn’t the sort of type to immediately blitz into drawn out battle. He reached out mentally, temporarily linking his mind to the stranger’s. “Is there really no other way? You seem far too cordial to be a simple terrorist. I have no orders to capture or kill you. If you simply let us finish our work, we can leave without even a scuffle.”

As he spoke, whispers began to be forced into the Russian’s mind. An idea took hold in the back of the man’s thoughts, festering and playing at his consciousness as the thought of standing down and letting the group pass began to grow.

Feat

[ Gishousha ] - False Witness
Type:
Trained

There is a devil on the shoulder of every great man and women. It is a persistent part of their consciousness, whispering falsehoods, misdeeds, and flat out lies into their minds. Practitioners of Gishousha seek to become this, and are trained to infect the consciousness of their targets, viciously manipulating them until their goals have been met.

Simply put, Gishousha gives the user the power of persuasion. By signalling one target in a 30 meter radius around them, they can create a temporary mental link between themselves and the target. Each turn, they can plant a thought or idea into the target’s mind, and while it does not outright force them to complete the action, it continuously gnaws away and persists in their mind. Repeated messages make the effect grow stronger until it becomes the sole focus of their attention. Furthermore, while linked with the others mind, they are constantly aware of the target’s mental state.

Those affected by Gishousha are completely unaware of the effects unless detected by the appropriate abilities or outside influences. To those receiving the message, the idea seems to originate from the deepest recesses of their mind and be completely theirs. Once linked, the user must stay within a 5 kilometer area of the target for the link to persist. The user must pay 1% of their reiatsu per turn to plant an idea or thought.

With an annoyed frown, the Russian reached out with one enormous foot and swatted at the robot, like one might swat a misbehaving dog. He then sighed and met Caleb's eyes. "What would be in it for me? This is a job, and the job boils down to nothing more or less than this: if I am successful, I get paid; if I fail, I do not get paid."

Raising one bushy, grey eyebrow, he asked, "Letting you go by not only means that I do not get paid, it also hurts my credibility and chances of future work. Is it the same for you? If you turn and walk away, will you suffer for it? I think not. Before you continue, you should know that I am a professional.

"For the sake of my contract, I will put my life on the line." His voice was deadly serious.

Gesturing over his shoulder at the building behind him, the Russian asked, "Is this building something you are willing to die for? To kill for?"

Then he grabbed something behind his back. Bringing it forward into the pulsing red light, it was revealed to be a boxy rectangle of folded bars or pipes. With a flick of his wrist and dozens of metal clanks, the bars rapidly unfolded and snapped into place, forming a huge metal rod almost as long as the Russian was tall. One end was capped in a long, thick chain. The other had two flat iron bars that bent back on either side, almost like an inverted tuning fork. The pole itself was thick enough that even his huge hands could not quite close all the way around it.

Slamming the flat end to the ground, the giant of a man calmly rested his hands on the haft as he waited for their response.

[300/800]

The crunching of metal quickly snapped Rune away from his examination of the strange crimson spires, watching impassively as the white-haired man's foot connected with Kaisen Karakuri and sent the tiny machination skidding and tumbling along the pavement.

Letting out a few shrill beeps, the automation recovered, righting itself before quickly whizzing back to Rune and his comrades and seemingly cowering behind its master -- a single blue 'eye' peering out at the Russian from over Rune's shoulder.

Turning his attention to the interloper, the blue-haired mechanist's eyes narrowed, his brow furrowing in a slight scowl. For the robotic youth to show even a modicum of emotion was a frightening prospect in and of itself, but whatever emotional capacity the boy did have was almost certainly reserved for his mechanical creation.

"Initiating combat protocols."

With a few affirmative beeps, the mechanist's companion floated forward, whatever bizarre and arcane machinery it housed beginning to whirr to life within its tiny frame. Flashes of blue light emanated from beneath its armor as the tiny droid turned its sights on the white-haired giant once more, before, with a flash of brilliant light, the machine attacked -- a lance of burning white energy sweeping over the Russian man.

Seemingly not content to simply sear the being who had so thoughtlessly harmed his companion, Rune reached for his belt, calmly retrieving a single grenade, pulling the pin and hurling it towards the man. As the device sailed towards the Russian in a slow arc, it split open -- spewing out a cloud of tiny rockets, each on a collision course with the gargantuan interloper.

stuff

Kaisen Karakuri shot a laser. Rune threw a cluster grenade. Let the games begin.

Whether it was the laser or the cluster grenade that first caught his attention was debatable, but being mere feet away from the target of both assaults had placed Caleb in a rather delicate situation. Regardless of the conversation that was occurring earlier, it seemed as if outside influences had scrapped any non-violent plan.

He disappeared in an instant, superhuman speed and reflexes slowing the world to a near standstill. “To die for, debatable. But to kill for? Well I’ve been given worse targets,” echoed the sniper’s voice already re-positioned farther away. In many ways Caleb understood the Russian’s point of view. While his personal well-being weighed above all in his mind, missions and contracts were rather interchangeable. Preserving his record was a priority.

“It’s too tight in here, move outside,” commanded Caleb, scanning the area with his mental map, before reappearing in front of the larger gathered group. Back-stepping to cover the group as they exited, he leveled the immense barrel of the Noblesse forward. Two more lasers erupted outwards. The air was filled with ozone as the strikes surged forward.

""

2 shots from Noblesse with Lawbringer:
525 Rei each. I'll get my resonance count up soon.

I was just in town to be romantic, and now we’re fighting who knows what? Colin was completely distracted by the impending explosions to be fascinated by the robot. Although he did make a mental note to find out the specs as a chauffer automaton would be like Christmas. The hacker made his way away from the ensuing battle. Maybe there would even be other ways inside while the spiked freak was distracted.

Tatiana took a covering position for the group, maintaining her stealth that had no indication of being seen through as of yet. Her mismatched colored eyes watched the ensuing calamity, her rifle was at the ready, and under her breath she whispered a curse, “Nichto ne dayetsya legko...”

[121/499]

Tatiana at 12% resonance

The first move had been made and it hadn't been by her. Tokiwa was relieved slightly that she had managed not to jump into battle first, that she hadn't been as reckless as she previously had been in the past. Perhaps that meant she was growing in one way or another.

With a deep inhale, the short Vizard shoved the feeling in her gut aside as she raised her hand to her face, drawing the powers of her inner hollow to the surface for all to see. Black and gold eyes watched the scene before them through the holes of the solid white komainu mask. It's mouth was drawn up somewhere between a snarl and a toothy grin with the canines protruding over it's stone like lips.

Gripping her wakizashi tighter with her right hand, the horned girl drew it from its scabbard with the sound of metal scraping the wooden covering. She gave the blade a quick flourish as her hold adjusted slightly, Murasaki never called out to her, not once; but Waruagaki silently urged her to release the zanpakutou's abilities. Her success in battle benefited him as well and he had sat idly by while she behaved cowardly behind another enough times.

Stop hesitating and release it already! The hollow's voice spoke up, echoing harshly throughout the redhead's skull.

Not yet, I can't even get close to this guy to make it worth while! I'll just get us killed trying that!

Everything that she wanted to do in this moment would most likely end up with her dead. The panic inside of her mounted and she did the only thing she could think of in that moment, release a cero at the towering man that stood in their way.

[293/806]

(tired, I'll add info for like the cero later)

The giant of a man held both forearms together in front of his face before the first of the blasts hit. His grunts of pain were lost amid the barrage of tiny explosions. Crimson flashed as blood splattered across the walls. Lasers cut through the clouds of smoke and blood that surrounded the man, burning more holes in his flesh. Still he stood, wavering on his feet.

The iron pole in front of him was propped against his shoulder.

It almost seemed as if he would not offer a fight back. With the sheer volume of blood dripping down the walls around him, it was a miracle he was still standing at all. Even from outside the darkened entryway, the splashes of crimson were vivid, the smell of blood cloying.

When Tokiwa revealed her mask, however, the moment of inaction ended.

He was a professional: Kazimir Ilari. He followed the terms of his contract absolutely. He never revealed details about his clients. What he was not willing to do, he did not accept contracts for. When he took on a job, however, it was his life.

In the darkness, red light flashed in front of Kazimir's face. Suddenly, he dropped his arms, the sheet of red light cracking and crumbling to the ground, light dying as it fell. Blood dripped from his arms, through deep wounds in his abdomen. Snatching up his weapon, he charged forward, shockingly fast for a man his size. In a second he was at the entrance of the tower.

The weapon trailed behind him, and as he went, the blood all over the walls and the floor chased after him. It flowed swiftly, numerous tributaries and streams of crimson converging together into one roiling, churning river of the sanguine.

With a roar of effort Kazimir slapped his other hand on the shaft of his iron staff and swung it overhead. Ahead of him, his bellow was matched by the keen of the charging cero, the bright red light engulfing the entire area. Overhead the flat bars snapped outward, and the staff became a giant T. The river of blood flowed up to the center of the weapon, rapidly crystallizing into an immense, pulsing red blade fully six meters long.

Kazimir chopped downward, meeting the oncoming cero head-on... and snuffing it out with a calamitous explosion to both sides.

"You would have done better with diplomacy."

[400/1200]

Caleb came to a skidding halt as the Russian appeared towards the front of the group. Diverting his immense momentum, he veered in a tight arc back. To be able to surpass even his speed, even in that wounded state, was unthinkable to the agent. The mental map in his mind updated, tracking the positions of his allies carefully.

Unfortunately, his powers hadn’t reached their peak yet, hiding for him the information he truly needed, the layout of the building itself. For time being, his only other option was to get to that point as fast as possible.

Swiping down towards the circular device attached to his belt, a burst of reiatsu erupted around him. For the briefest of seconds Caleb Fletcher seemed to disappear completely. However, to the sniper time seemed to slow to a crawl. His mind began to process the information of his previous shot with unerring efficiency. The velocity of the bullet, the size of his target, even the very intricacies of the reiatsu of the Russian were calculated. He squeezed the trigger, another shot erupting from the barrel of the gun. The laser was colored a slate gray, two distinct coatings of reiatsu surrounding the shot.

It surged down from above the Russian, Caleb appearing from stealth a fraction after. Another burst of reiatsu exited his body, as he was propelled back once again.

THINGS.

Resonance: 3355/19714

Shot is imbued with Force and From Russia With Love because the last lasers struck. He used Quartermaster once for the stealth and then 2 uses of push to re-position.

Shot Damage: 2350

The Quartermaster - A-Rank

Taking the form of a small circular device that is clipped to Caleb’s belt, The Quartermaster appears to a somewhat odd, but rather unmemorable object. The device is smooth to touch, while possessing a texture that is neither metallic or plastic based. A hexagonal red LED sits in the center of the forward face, glowing when active.

The material of The Quartermaster is an artificial, reiatsu-conducting, alloy. The device is specifically attuned to Caleb’s reiatsu, as it draws in a small portion of his reiatsu while he activates it. By releasing the reiatsu in microbursts, he can use it to scramble visual and spiritual reads on him. To an outsider, he appears to blur out of view for one second before reappearing. Spiritual tracking on the other hand will cause him to vanish before reappearing soon after. The Quartermaster costs 500 reiatsu to activate. This cannot be used to reactivate Nobody Does it Better.

From Russia With Love - 0% Resonance

Passively, From Russia With Love drastically increases Caleb’s baseline accuracy. By manipulating the targeting reticles he is granted the ability to pick apart the target’s body to know exactly where to strike.

After landing a successful hit, Caleb is capable of memorizing the exact trajectory of the bullet that caused its successful strike. By paying 3% of his reiatsu he can lock-onto the previous hit and recreate the optimal trajectory to land the strike. The next bullet he fires, empowered by the reiatsu he paid in, will home-onto his target, following them until they either strike their target or are stopped.

This monster is too strong for me, and we still have a job to do, Tatiana chided herself, letting her ability fall. With a few strides, slinging her rifle over her shoulder as she went, she stood next to Colin. A coy smile and a glance upwards were all the warning he got to grab on tightly.

Both of the Irishman’s arms looped around his Russian love affair’s neck, soon after she was mid air in a jump. Landing mid air on a block of hardened air and pushing off to another jump she continued her ascent up the side of the tower. No sense calling out to Caleb, as that might just draw attention from the pulsating mercenary below. Finding handholds she started to climb the communication tower. The next question was what would they find once up top?

[140/539]

Tatiana at 24% resonance from using Air Hike and Internalize.

The laser honed in and crashed against the Russian’s shoulder, skin searing away to reveal muscle, amid a spray of crimson. The blood rapidly crystallized, shattering almost as quickly but still blunting the beam’s effectiveness.

Fragments of pulsing red darkened to cold, dead black as it fell from his shoulder.

Without glancing Caleb’s way, Kazimir flexed, gritting his teeth against the pain of stretching the freshly opened wound. The gigantic sword blade lifted out of the divot he had sliced into the ground, and with another bellow, Kazimir lunged forward, the tip of the immense weapon aimed for Tokiwa’s stomach.

Going forward, I am going to attempt to do one turn per day. Count this as the turn for Saturday.

Let's get this thing going!

The sudden surge of speed past him almost caught Caleb off guard. The speed that the Russian moved was frightening, one that matched if not surpassed his own. However, not wishing to dwell on it further, his eyes followed the movement, calculating the vector of his motion ahead.

Though he probably wouldn’t make it to Toki in time, he could at least attempt to impede the attacker further. In one fluid motion he refastened the Noblesse to the holster on his back. In the same circular motion he pointed the barrel of M directly at the mercenary. Loading a further lawbringer round, he fired the shot. Once again, they were coated with a sheen of gray reiatsu, as he replicated the same path-finding trajectory as before. With a blinding light and a deafening buzz, the attack surged forward with unerring aim.
