Alrighty then. Now that I'll be grading 8th and Vizards and 12th, all you good little girls and boys, forward those links over to me. This isn't an absolute necessity for you to be graded; however, we all are human and I am pretty good a failing, so links just ensure I see all your writing for this week.

Also, here are my links for Group 5 grader (AHs) this week!

[8th/3rd/11th][Bounty] Week 219: Breaking Nightmare

[8th/8th]: Week 219: Hell is Other People

(PS My collab with Bob [Encroaching on Sacred Ground] isn't finished so don't worry about it. Thanks!)

What Qualifies You? [54/56] + 100 VC Bonus for, essentially, hiring an NPC to Cerb

D'aww Zakki is actually being all VC-like. I'm really happy with how you've conveyed Zakki's growth through these collabs and chapters. It really shows him trying to fit into life at Cerberus and how the hell he's going to handle the challenge that is a promotion and increased ties to the company. Anyway, on the collab, it was well written. Zakki actually holding his own against someone is a nice change. Hopefully, this doesn't go to his head. The only thing that put me off a bit was how fast the collab ended. It appeared as if all of a sudden it ended and I kind of hoped for a more drawn out ending.

Contemplation, Investigation [56/56]

Introspection, how nice. Anyway, once again I'm really impressed with how you're able to show growth in a character. With Zakki suddenly be given this high profile job, it does create a slight moral dilemma for him. Well, it was, in a way, Ciro's punishment for Zakki's conflicted opinions in PMs. Yup, only in Cerberus can the position of Vice-Captain be used as punishment. Anyway, back to the chapter, it was really well written and kept me interested even though it was mainly an inner monologue.

::Val::
Thy Fearful Symmetry [200/200] + 75 Division Bonus

Wow, this was a really interesting collab. Fukushin is such an enigma, but he's quite forward in his speech. I really liked how you three played to your character's personalities. Adelaide's forward and inquisitive nature seemed to be a really good jump off point to Shu's slowly degenerative vizard tendencies. That with Fukushin's nature of being puzzling yet logical at the same time was really interesting. I especially liked the parallels he tried to draw between Shu and Adelaide. Also, even though this was a monstrous collab, it kept me engaged throughout the entire thing. As a cherry on top, I'm really liking how you guys are actually using the fact that Fukushin is supposed to be a reoccurring (villan/antagonist/thing?) and interacting with him even after PMs.

On an unrelated note, since Shu is hanging around Cerb, we really should collab.

::Grif::
What Qualifies You [54/56] + 75 Division Bonus

Ohoho, we have a pyro on our hands don't we? He must really like the new Pyrozac strains. Anyway, you played well to your character's personality (and hair color?). Considering I haven't read much, if you have written this character before, I am not quite sure on how his personality actually stands. Through writing him, it should get more solidified. The only quips I had were the spreading of grammar errors through your turns. There were quite a few places where you didn't finish the left quotation after making a speech. That with some weird tense issues were the only main problems. Other than that, I'm excited to see where this char ends up.

Recovery [51/51]

Quite a cliffhanger. This chapter was well written and I'm sensing this weird hint of a TV tropes police officer mixed into these characters. Anyway, I don't really have much to say about this than well done. You really should resolve this cliffhanger. Once again, like the earlier NPC, I feel like more writing is needed to fully solidify their personalities, but it should be good.

::Sev::
Storm [51/51]

Gosh, Promethus is a grumpy gus isn't he? Such a nice way to greet guests... Anyway, you played the part of hollow well and scared the crap out of the thirds in this collab. Prometheus is turning into quite a good big hollow bad imo, so kudos for playing him more like a king of HM rather than just another VL.

::Kago::
Hell is Other People [133/133]

Wow, Kago's really filling into Sene's MIA shoes. I'm kind of liking the leader that Kago's turning into. Even through this writing, considering how he acts with his subordinates, I can kind of feel a faint tinge of guilt. Perhaps this is from his time in the Twelfth?

Regardless, this collab was well written. I especially like how stern Kago is, though he does come off to be a bit stubborn at times. Anyway, great job on this and I'm looking forward to reading up the follow-up to this. There's no way Adelaide or Kago are going to let this be the end of things.

Breaking Nightmare [48/48]

First off, good job filling in for Colin on such short notice. Anyway, back to what most people were probably thinking about when reading this collab.

OH SHIT. THINGS JUST GOT REAL.

Congrats Shun on being the first person, iirc, to get their collar unlocked. You did a fantastic job playing the hollow so take full Kan for this. You are the hollow so the more collateral damage is good for you LOL.

[ Off-duty Middays_52/60]

For starters, I’d like to say that it was interesting to see the interaction between Nana and Ryoujin. It was very delicate and humanly. Nana’s polite complacence played well with Ryoujin’s youthful hyperactiveness, reduced to a wheelchair. Well done in that aspect.

By other hand, there was a slight contradiction from Nana’s side. In her first turn of the collab, Nana wondered and had serious doubts about why she was sent to the Fourth Division, while her assigned partner was from the Eleventh; she also wondered why her partner would be there, and so on. During the events, despite realizing the reason she was there, in the end she gave the impression of having full awareness about the reasons she was sent to the Fourth, regardless the meeting with Ryoujin, what made those initial doubts somewhat obsolete and contradictory. It scratched the plot a bit.

I also think that you could have explored this extraordinary encounter in something a bit more special and meaningful, other than a casual walk round the block. This collab ended up with a rush flavour...

There weren’t any orthographic errors or typos, but I found some issues with capitalizations here and there.

[ Breaking Nightmare_Shun 67/72_Ketch 80/85_Kago 40/45]

@Shun: It was good to see Ryoujin fight without being able to use shunpo properly and overcoming this handicap with the use of kidou. He kind of became Manzo’s battle supporter, staying away from the front line, even though he was way stronger.

I am not a kidou nazi, but I think that "destructive art thirty-three” wouldn’t be right way of calling it, and you should rather do "destructive art number thirty-three”. O.O Also, mind the commas: "Scatter, Kazeoni”.

Congratz on having your cher- erm, collar popped out. I guess I already realized what the Shinigami have to do to get rid of the collars, so, you bitches should start thinking about it! >:P

@Ketch: I think that Manzo fought well and did not play around with the enemy simply because it is slightly weaker than him. As you use to do, you kept a good combat pace in your narrative and gave it the right dose of description and bleachness. However, I think that this Hollow was taken too easy...

@Kago: I think you shouldn’t have mentioned the Shinigami by the names on Nightmare’s thoughts/actions. It had no way to know their names in that situation. So, it was kinda off-place. Also, there was no reaction to Tatsunokuchi’s ability or what so ever. The Hollow also could have gives them a bigger trouble. It was defeated too easily. Maybe because you guys kinda rushed it at the end... O.Ô

@everyone: In sum, it was a clean fight, without any damage to the surroundings or civilian kills. Like I said before, I think that the fight was a bit too easy, regardless the level of the Hollow. I also think that you guys rushed it at the end.

Y’all get the 250 Kan y’all desoyve! ÔoO7 HOH!

Sir Shunväld gets 75 points of Division Bonus!

[ Sir Albesmÿr ]

[ Recolections_30/53]

Albs, so sorry, but I have to be a bit tough here. There is no way in Heaven or Hell I can say that this chapter wasn’t rushed, hasted, pulled out from nowhere, without a proper proofreading. I’ve been grading your for a while and I’ve said it many times - proofread, revise, read it out loud to be sure it’s okay.

Since the beginning of the chapter, I stumbled myself with several crude errors that could be easily corrected with a proper revision. There were also a few awkward sentences where I had some trouble to understand what you meant. It happened specially in the first paragraph. Not being on a computer, being on a smartphone is not an excuse to leave your chapter if such crude mistakes. This chapter could be very, very interesting, since you give an insight about important aspects of your personal plot. It’s a pity it is tarnished by those easy-to-kill errors. I can’t be lenient to it any longer, Albs... 6.6

[ Sir Beaksör ]

[ Too close to the Sun_124/126]

Man... Here I was all warmed up, waiting for teared clothes revealing pink underwear and fight in the mud... Puleash... Haha, joking. - not really 6.6 -

Well, this collab was well driven from both sides, even though I think there was too much speech flourishing, specially from Miss Amaterasu, going round and round instead of chasing the point she had so sharp in her mind when she decided to meet Miss Tsubaki. I honestly thought that Tsubaki would snap out on her sooner than she did. Props for self control.

The main core of this collab would be the combat training, however, i had the feeling that it somehow became secondary, being eclipsed by their eloquence, and, when it actually happened, was very brief, leaving the taste for more. Nevertheless, it gave us the enough dose of Tsubakiness with the "Imma burn this whole crap with Ittou Kaisou, beeotch” resolve trial. The title for this collab could not have fit it better.

You get 75 points of division bonus and 100 Kan for the training.

First of all, are you freakin' kidding me?

This Dog Trail chapter you posted this week is the SAME one you posted on Week 163’s The Hunting Dog. You have to be extra careful with what you post, pal. I don’t know what you expected from this, but the least you will get is to look really, really bad in the picture.

Alright Group 3. I have a new proposition for you: Since we have just added a handful of people to our little grading family, I’m feeling generous. Therefore, I am willing to use my remaining kan (1300) to contribute to another Super Div Bonus (SDB) for writing Week 220. That means the rest of you would have to come up with the rest of the amount (1200). With 5 of you receiving grades this week, and a few more of you reading this message, wishing you had written... if 6 of you send me 200 kan, we can get the SDB.

If you don’t like the idea of other people reaping the benefits of your kan, look at it like this: for 250 kan you only get 1 collab grade doubled; 200 kan will get all your writings (not just 1 collab) and bonuses DOUBLED.

(Note: if we do not accumulate the 2500 kan for the bonus, all kan will be returned to you. Just PM me with a message saying the amount you sent me when you donate it.

To send kan to me, click "Currency” at top of forums page. Click on "Kan”. Then click "Change” next to the "To Account” and enter "Kago”. Type the amount and under "Optional Note” put your name and amount, just so I have a record.)

With all that taken care of, time for grades!

NOTE: Doc, Katie, Tom, Valero, Mits.... each of you take +30 div bonus for writing this week.

Doc

Let’s Start a Fight
Grade: 151/152
Comments:
I like seeing how Gorou’s samurai days are bleeding into his afterlife. Too few people actually have aspects of their previous life affecting Soul Society. It’s a refreshing sight.

A few parts of the chapter threw me off though.

"Like a bear preparing to attack did the redhead cry out, blade raised with both hands in preparation to swing down upon its grizzled prey.”

This line seemed to disrupt the flow of your paragraph. Not only is the wording different from the rest of your paragraph, the stylistic design of it doesn’t match up with the rest of your chapter. Although it is a proper structuring, it was the wrong choice in this case.

"To compound his thinning g nerves, a familiar man stood at the front of the group.”

Just a simple typo.

Grade: 132/133

So you and I had plenty of discussions around Adelaide’s actions and your writing in this collab via IM (while we wrote it). I’ll just touch on a major point I’d like you to consider:
Adelaide’s perspective:
I’ll start off by saying; the creator of a character should know its inner working/nuisances/etc. better than anyone else. I believe by limiting your character to focusing only on one issue they have with the other person in a collab is dangerous/breaks the realm of plausibility of the writing.

Take ‘Adelaide’s finding out Senesati and Sayis are former assassins’ as an example. Even after we discussed it, your writing did not convey the seriousness of that discovery. You’ve built up Adelaide’s hatred for assassins and clearly expressed it through her interactions and inner monologues with/about Kago and other 12thies. When Kago ends up telling you the truth about two men she highly respects, you jump straight into her not accepting it.

She couldn’t take the news about Sayis or Senesati while fighting with Kago,

She couldn’t take the news about Sayis or Senesati...

Now, although this is a response to hearing the news, I feel like there could’ve been other, more appropriate responses to it. Adelaide could have denied it outright, especially considering how they were arguing and she doesn’t trust him, and then decide to confirm the information later. Or even more shock/awe/surprise would’ve made it more plausible. As it stands, I felt like it didn’t seem to be as an impactful moment as her persona and the situation built towards.

I’m sure you’ll be addressing this information and its aftermath in subsequent chapters, so I look forward to reading it. As always, this is merely my opinion so you can take it as you choose. :-)

Collision Detection
Grade: 54/56
Comments:

This collab wasn’t anything special. The first half of the collab felt like the two of you were writing with no clear direction, kind of like Adelaide’s and Setsuna’s conversation. I’m just glad Kago was enough to bring you two together and salvage the discussion somewhat. The end kind of felt abrupt but it worked in the context of this collab. So I guess...good job?

The Mere Sense of Living
Grade: 101/102
Comments:
Overall, nice collab. The awkward tension felt extremely appropriate given the state of things between these two. Having Lashiel materialize for the first time in front of Yuurei was an interesting twist and a nice bit of personality added to the collab. And I agree, Lashiel did save them from a ‘terrifying encounter’.

Outside of a few typos, one of your better collabs!

Thy Fearful Symmetry
Grade: 198/201
Comments:
This collab was extremely insightful. Not only were you both able to play heavily on the Shinigami/Vizard divide in a new way, but you managed to unveil some of the inner-workings of Fukushin’s mind. But, can you truly trust his answers? Information itself is a weapon.

The reason I took off the points is that several of your turns were littered with typos. Normally I only take a point or two off, but it got to be almost every turn from you. Outside of that, no major issues.

Passionless as Reason
Grade: 153/154
Comments:
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Adelaide’s self-discovery and bankai arc thus far. You have a real knack for taking an idea and expressing it in its true form. Also, you’re developing your bankai/zanpakutou spirit beyond just a new form of power for Adelaide, one that embraces her as much as she embraces it. I like the level of thought and detail you are building around it.

As much as I wanted to give you full marks for the collab, I saw a few typos in your first chapter.

Into the Storm of Raging Legends, of Songs Long Forgotten
Grade: 113/113
Comments:
Not really much to say about it. Mitsuhito followed Nana’s orders to the letter (despite them both being unseated). I like that Mits wasn’t just happy go lucky and accepting of Nana attitude. Too many times I read two people getting along IG that, given the personalities/situation, really shouldn’t. I’m glad you two didn’t let OOG slip in here.

Group 1: Will

Thy Fearful Symmetry
Grade: 201/201
Comments:
Its hard to comment on whether you stayed in character with Fukushin or not since there isn't a write-up, but I will say you were consistent. I liked how even when he was answering Adelaide's and Shukumei's broad questions, you were making it a point to show that he was only giving them the answers they were looking for because the information wasn't valuable. Essentially, showing them that he didn't see them as a threat (even though he lured them into focusing on him/fountain area and could've had anybody in Sanctuary attack them).

This collab also seemed to paint Fukushin in a different light than I was expected. He's not the direct enemy to the shinigami/Central 46; he's an antagonist to chaos and all races' hypocritical motives. I love the multi-faceted antagonist. Kudos!

PS. Taiken huh? That's a name from WAY back. I'm curious to see how/if that plays into any plot down the road.

Sorry for taking so long to figure out whether I was grading, but at least it's something you already read, Kago. My only writing this week was the Fukushin collab.

Hare - 120/123

I'm glad that letter made it into a chapter, although it did seem a little sudden/out of place. Some minor typos through this one but much cleaner than normal. Hare and Iida, as usual, continue to have an interesting if violent relationship. I'm a little surprised how well Ayu's taking things, considering.

The Crazier Path (2466) 120/123

Finny - 98/100

I can always count on you for those fun quirky bits, like wanting to buy an "A rank item slot" or "exotic sealed form." I'm not sure if you're poking fun at the way I labeled them or being genuine. Also, although there were a couple small typos, I do want to say that I like the fact that there is more description than before. I actually have an idea what Supa and Orgun look like. I want to see more, though. Talking more about expressions and body language can go a long way toward bringing the reader more into the story.

50 Div Bonus

Et Cetera (1990) 98/100

Nell - 265/277

Your shikai(?) chapter had some very strong undertones of guilt and determination, although I think there's a disconnect between what Yuurei is thinking and what she's doing. She thinks to herself "I don't want to kill, that's just what he wants," and then tries her very hardest to kill him seconds later. The description, the tension, and the emotion were all good here, but remember to maintain that consistency. The MP3s were a little... off. Miyazaki music doesn't lend itself well to action, surprisingly.

The collab with Adelaide was... odd. The two of you were barely interacting with each other, and instead the bulk of the collab was your two zanpakuto spirits arguing with each of you. In the end, very little happened and there was no real closure to the event. Even ending on the spirit somehow breaking the ice seemed... forced? In the collab, Adelaide forgot what she wanted to say about Emily Dickinson, but I get the feeling that OOG both of you forgot where you wanted to go with this collab.

50 Div Bonus for shikai chap

Mere Sense of Living (4093) 95/102
The Forgotten's Home (3500) 170/175

Isaaru - 224/224

You know... it's not often enough that I say this, but wow. These two chapters, while not without their minor faults, capture a tension and drama that really set a foreboding tone for what might happen in the near future. You're playing on Tsubaki's plot, on the C46 plot, and on your own personal plot, and meshing them seamlessly, while also suggesting some Kanda Insurrection involvement. The dread and seriousness accompanying the sudden arrival of the Onmitsu Kidou was perfect, given the situation.

I think this just gave me some inspiration to get caught up on my writing.

50 Div Bonus

The Tearing Stone (4486) 224/224

Group 2 Grades

Mr. Heinz (seewutididthere?)

Withered Ashes At The Dawn Of A New Day
65/70

First thing that jumped out at me was the second sentence:

It was, when reflecting on the tenuous history between the two of them---specifically their last encounter---, a brazen move by the young non-seated officer to barge into the woman’s office without her approval.

This could be phrased in such a way to make it easier to read. For example:

Considering their last encounter, it was a brazen move by the young(,) unseated officer to barge into the woman’s office without her approval.

Next paragraph:

Beyond the much more apparent differences---his hair was less mussed, the usually opened kosode showed nothing below the sternum, and his lavender rope belt was tightened perfectly around his waist---was the determined and undaunted slant to his eyes that emanated all emotions within.

Again, there’s a better way to phrase this but you also have to play with the tenses here. Maybe even using parenthesis where you have dashes to more clearly express the supporting details? (It’s style at that point) Ex.:

Beyond the much more apparent differences (his hair being less mussed, the usually opened kosode showing nothing below the sternum, and his lavender rope-belt tightened perfectly around his waist) was the determined and undaunted slant to his eyes that emanated all emotions within.

Beyond the aforementioned, the rest of the collaboration was good in terms of punctuation and grammar. As far as content, this was a pretty good encounter. Putting your PC through the gauntlet of defeat is great for character development and, when done properly and thoroughly, I think it should provide your character with experience you can’t write alone. I don’t know about Manzou and Ayame’s past but their dynamic is interesting. I’m sure this will be point of growth for Manzou...perhaps a step away from the previous week’s work where he is noted as saying he has no specific drive for being a shinigami?

Through History’s Past, Legends Are Born
270/274

Well, once again, Manzou is pressed for his motivation and that which drives him. I think Manzou handled Augustus’s question very well...a political but honest answer.

He gripped one of her shoulders and stopped her from making the desperate act as the two of them ascended far above the now-vanishing and ageless nobleman and the room he had guarded for an untold yet undoubtedly enduring number of years.

Dude. Ketch. Bro. Run-on sentence is run-on.

Bypassing the above and a few minor errors, the writing was still really good. Though, it did feel like there was more thought and narrative description than action or speech on Manzou’s part, he was clearly put into the middle of things that he could hardly participate in without coming off rude or comical.

Serenity
87/88

This is a pretty standard follow up for something like Ashes. I can’t say it is your most impressive writing that I have read but it certainly wasn’t difficult to read. Who is this Yumi girl?! Cad want’s to know more! Maybe this girl can bring out a little more personality in Manzou! There were a couple punctuation errors but nothing glaring.

Breaking Nightmare
85/85

Standard bounty with good action. No noticeable mistakes and a good use of your gift for description of action. Also, Manzou and Ryoujin seemed to share the brunt of the work fairly evenly, which is nice to see, considering some bounties become one-sided.

I see that you prefer the term ‘non-seated officer’ throughout your writings, which is fine, but be careful not to overuse it. Take 50 Division bonus for your crazy-good activity this week.

Robin, Batman’s too-easily-forgotten sidekick

Withered Ashes
69/70

Your first two turns refer to Ayame with only the words ‘she’ and ‘her’. I understand if the vague references are used for the purpose of keeping her identity a secret for intrigue, but there was no other descriptive reference to the girl other than two pronouns. It was a little bothersome :/

Despite the opening, you write Ayame very well. (Surprise! Rob writes a girl with flare!) It was almost as if you were channeling a cross of Tsubaki and Theron when writing her. It’s good to see a character actually push Manzou, considering his character is in limbo in some ways. It was also a nice way to give out a promotion...nearly killing the person. :P

Through History
272/274

Oh, you and your titles. This is a great arc you have going, with a cool spin on the nobility in Soul Society. It was pretty clear that this was a big pchap with ketch tossed in the middle, but I think that’s ok and I think writers should explore this side of collabs a little more. It’s not necessarily a bad thing if someone comes along for the ride while one character develops more than the other. It does become uncomfortable obvious at times though - for example, there is a point where so much develops and then Nana’s dad is suddenly like, "Hey Manzou, sorry about all the chatter! What’s going on with you?” Good story that I’m eager to continue reading into.

Too Close to The Sun
126/127

Damnit, Rawbles, you did it again - almost 3 paragraphs before using something other than ‘her’ and ‘she’ to describe your character! It was a relief to see Nana referred to as ‘blue-eyed Walker’!

This was a great training collab, for you and beaks. It’s really great to see your writing styles side by side and your characters interacting, similarities present while they both are so different. Great action-writing and great flow.

Off-Duty
60/60

Sweet! Shun referenced my NPC! Not much to say about this collab other than it’s a nice break from the standard meet-n-greets. No glaring errors or issues with this one.

Raging Legends
101/102

Disappointing collab is disappointing. Not your fault, though. It certainly had alot of potential but certain events came and went and changed things up. You did great with what you could so I’m glad the effort didn’t completely go to waste. There were a couple of spelling errors I saw so -2 for you!

Note:
The sun was setting.

A weeping echo.

Sounds of never,ever, forever more.
Very Tits of you. +40 Division Bonus.

Cellular

Splinter
125/125

Great stuff here, Celly. I am really liking how this kind of plays out like Momento, working backwards (I hope I’m not wrong about that!) and bringing the reader deeper into the story. I was happy to see how you also mentioned and worked around the imprisonment issue, while also bringing up this ‘group’ of people making the decisions...which, I definitely want to learn more about later. The only thing popping up in my head was ‘How on earth is Celly going to be a Mystice of the Divine with all the crazies?!” Maybe this turns out to give him a better understanding of the mind than anyone could ever know.... :)

Take 25 division bonus!

HIREN!

Communication Arts I
58/58

London! London! London! This was pretty fun pchap to read! I really enjoyed how Ciro responded to the girl’s welcome, almost as much as her attacks (especially the card->swords trick). I wish I could give more credible feedback but this was an excellent chapter, seemingly free of errors. You can create a very colorful story while also being efficient with your words - Bravo!

25 division bonus for you, too!
