[PM] [1st/3rd/8th/10th/11th/Open] Week 196: Picking Teams

Status
Not open for further replies.
Two teams separated evenly apart within a fifty-kilometer scouting area. Each group was far outside of the range of any natural spiritual perception techniques. Whether or not the scouting abilities of lieutenant Maruyama or the aforementioned officer, Lilli, would be able to fill in this gap was an unknown to Shingo at least and changed the parameters and feelings of the mission in his own mind. His eyes sharpened just a bit after the fact. Not even the similar scouting abilities of Tsurume---which was tucked quietly in the breast pocket of his kosode---could cover such a large expanse. There was very little doubt in the young officer’s mind that the ever-present chaos within Hueco Mundo would reach one of, if not both, of the scouting teams during their relatively simple mission.

If not for the brand new communication devices brought in by the research institute, this mission would warrant more worry and caution than what was shown on any of the faces in the room.

Another member from a different division had left the room in the midst of Shingo’s inward reflections, the sound of the door slamming shut the only thing bringing her absence to his attention, and all questions he himself had thought to ask were being presented and answered. Shingo was content to relax and let everything play out as it was at that point. However, the anticipation of the coming deployment and the status of the second-in-command of the Third, lieutenant Caishin, still poked at him a little bit.

"Not my taste. I much prefer black hair over redheads,” he responded lightly to Zakeriah’s statement. "But go on right ahead, have at it.”

Breathing in the shrill quietness that permeated after the Eighth’s commotion, Kyuketsu stretched out his back before thoroughly scanning the room’s inhabitants. The Vice-Captain appeared unassuming when sizing up the different potential teammates seated all around him. He knew every shred of structural detail concerning those from his own division, thus he knew what to do with them in terms of grouping. In regards to the soldiers from the other squads, he had little information to work with. Practically all of them were of average reiatsu save for the truly high-ranking officers. Regardless, a few individuals managed to stand out in the lieutenant’s eyes.

Gesturing to the blonde-haired fukutaichou and then to the crowd, he said, "Judging from the silence, I take it that everyone’s ready to be put into groups now. Would you start us off by naming your picks, Vice-Captain Maruyama?”

Fifty kilometers? Wow... that’s a rather large area. But at least we know that there’s a parameter.... Yuurei thought as she listened to the brunette And the fact that the denreishinki works is an assurance too. Spotting the signature on her arm, she was no doubt a First Division member, as confirmed by the Vice Captain’s statement. The eighth and the ninth seats huh... I wonder who’s who though. Her auburn eyes followed them as they each took a seat, and averted her attention back to the Vice Captain when she started speaking.

Yay! The teams, finally! The little girl in her squealed, both in anxiety and excitement. However, the Spellblade caught her attention. She spoke bold words, but what is she really getting at? And such was her surprise when the Vice Captain handed her a letter, and when she excused herself from the assembly. Wow, the Eighth... seriously has a lot of issues among its members, don’t they? A diminutive frown swept across her lips, but she simply shrugged it off. After all, it was the Eighth’s business.

Hearing the Templars’ Vice Captain, she devoted her full attention back to her own. Oops. I spoke a little too soon. Now I hope we’ll finally know which team we’ll be assigned to. She thought as she bit her lip. This was the first time she’d be on a team with people from the other divisions, and she was quite nervous -- yet excited somehow.

The deeply shaded man took a step forward, his eyes opening slightly with anticipation for the mission to begin. His hand still gripped the battered zanpakutou, the dark and stained finger tips digging into the hilt. The unseated man let his wrapped head roll slowly over to the side, looking almost as if he were hanged. While he waited to hear his team assignment, the ominous reaper stepped close enough to the table for the collection of trophies to slightly tap against the wood. With a slight clinking, the hollow masks came to a rest just beside Kurohashi’s third division comrade.

Ryoujin watched one of the Walkers place a bonanza of hollow masks besides one of his allies. He knew that the Third Division was based on using one of those demon's masks and claiming it as one’s own as if it were a trophy or a prize, but it didn’t really occur to him until now that the Heralds of Death must have frequently visited Hueco Mundo more than your average shinigami. Something like that would definitely prove to be an asset, and he hoped that whatever team he was on, be it Ilsa’s or Kyuketsu’s, that he would be working alongside one of those two men.

Small preferences aside though, he didn’t particularly mind in the end. In fact, while he was waiting for the rosters to be decided, he was more engrossed by the comments that both of the other Templars made. He had never figured that Zakeriah would take a liking to that Eight woman from before, but it looked like he didn’t know enough about the personal side to his fellow co-third seat. And Kyuketsu…

Black-haired, eh? Way to keep it subtle. Luckily I know who, haha, Ryoujin thought playfully.

That poor woman. Ilsa repressed a sigh as the red-haired shinigami left the room. Why hadn’t her captain made his orders clear before sending her here? She was obviously angry and embarrassed, and Ilsa would have felt the same in her place. The internal affairs of other divisions were none of her business unless they impinged on the First Division or missions like this, though.

She turned her attention back to the remaining shinigami. The dark-skinned man had had a good question. “Entry and exit plans are simple, given our limited communication abilities. Each team will enter Hueco Mundo at one end of the area in question.” Tapping a piece of chalk on each side of the blob she had drawn, she continued. “We will then sweep in a roughly north-south direction, like so.” Ilsa drew a wavy line within the blob, touching the edge at each peak and valley of the wave. “Obviously, if we find something, we’ll deviate from the pattern to go see what it is. But the entire area needs to be investigated. Everyone will have a map on their soul phone. Once the two teams meet up in the middle, we call Soul Society and leave.”

Silence fell. Ilsa was just about to go on when Reijuu-fukutaichou spoke up. He wants to pick teams in front of everyone here? No. Just… no. She couldn’t imagine anything more embarrassing for those who were being- or not being- picked. “I think that we should discuss our options first.” The blonde shinigami gave him a small smile before she turned back to the rest of the audience. “Everybody except the vice-captains, make your way to the Senkaimon courtyard. We’ll let you know what team you’re on when we get there.”

What team am I on, Lin?
Wayne and Sene, assume that our characters are talking about their division people and hashing out team assignments; Wayne and I have already done so OOC. It would take waaaaaay too long to do so IC. Sorry to leave you out, Third and Tenth people, but this is what happens when you don't send an officer. :P

Oh, you wanted to know what team you were on? Post your character getting down to the Senkaimon and either Wayne or I will make a post telling the crowd.

I know, I'm an evil tease.

Ryoujin sighed. He understood privacy, protocol, and all that, and maybe it was also just Ilsa’s embarrassed and shy nature kicking in, but they could have just as easily called out the teams right here and then. It wasn’t like anyone was going to be butt-hurt about not being on someone else’s team. Unfortunately, it appeared that things weren’t going to go down that way as several officers already filed out of the room, headed towards the specific Senkaimon that would send them to Hueco Mundo.

“…We’d better go,” Ryoujin said to both Amaya and Zakeriah, “I think we’ve already wasted too much time here arguing about who gets to stay and whatnot, don’t you think?”

Drinking the last of his refreshing water, the pink-haired youth shuffled out of the room, his shoulders feeling that much heavier as he walked through the corridors of the First and towards the Senkaimon. The burden that the Gotei was carrying was certainly crushing. That fact proved even more so as he spotted the congregation of shinigami already filling up the space around the courtyard. Almost instantly, it fully registered to him. Within the next few minutes, they would be headed towards the hollow’s domain. There was no turning back now, and to be honest, the thought never crossed his mind.

[ Final 1020 ]

Well it was the best they had and it would have to do. Zak looked at his cigar and saw it was almost down the the bunt so he squashed it against the floor and twisted the ember out. He had certainly found the red headed girl amusing and almost thought it was a shame that she wasn't going to be coming along but then again Hueco Mundo was no place for a young shinigami, hell, it was likely no place for him either. He adjusted his loose hanging shitagi, he hardly bothered to tuck and tie it anymore given the fact his shikai just shredded the thing, and stood up. He did a quick equipment check on his sword, clairvaux, and his new ascalon which he had upgraded from his mitt-styled ones to full fingered gauntlets ending in pointed tips.

"Let's rock and roll then." He answered Ryoujin and followed the youth out of the room. The white sands of Hueco Mundo. He might not have thought the plan was all that great but it was likely going to be one hell of a good ride.

[188/1036]

There wasn't any mystery to which of the teams Picca would be on but she left anyway. A meeting of vice captains would be fun, but dangerous to sit in on and she didn't want to embarrass her own vice captain by disobeying. The one legged woman was in no hurry though and moved somberly through the halls towards the gateway between worlds.

As she got closer to the Senkaimon, she found it hard to walk. Her right leg was quivering furiously and if her left one could, it would be as well. Pushing reiatsu into Gale Bog, Picca sent out a stabilizing field of energy to enwrap and hold her right leg steady.

[321]

Shizuka being courteous as usual, excused herself and began to make her way to the Senkaimon. Her thoughts scattered about the newcomer, Adelaide. She'd like to talk to her after this scouting mission, and see how she felt about the situation. It had made the female shinigami wonder what the letter had contained.

During her way towards the Senkaimon, the spell-sword experienced some weird sensations in her left shoulder. It felt like stinging, but at the same it didn't hurt her. She thought about the secrecy that Maruyama fukutaichou was keeping with the team selection. It seemed weird to her. Why would the teams have to be kept secret until the very last moment?

To her it really didn't matter as she hardly knew anyone else except Seitaro-fukutaichou.

[128/404]

Udo pulled a terrified face when Adelaide unleashed her death glare and pushed as far back into his seat as he could, away from her. The spaceblade was more scared of returning from the mission than the mission itself. With nothing to say, Udo got up and headed out towards the senkai mon to be informed of what he team he would be assigned to, hoping to not be on the same one as the templar who started having a go at him earlier.

[84/1476]

Amaya strode along side her fellow Third Seats as they left the room. At this point the plan seemed barely thought out, and she could only hope for the best as the shinigami separated into their groups and then entered Hueco Mundo. She didn't care at this point what group she was with, all she cared about was making sure they came back alive. She knew how valuable her experience was at this point, and she was absolutely ready for whatever they were about to encounter.

“Let's hope they have a clue what they're getting themselves into...” Amaya murmured to the Templar nearby as they waited for the Vice Captain's decisions.

[112/564]

It took a few minutes for the vice-captains to sort things out, but in Ilsa’s mind it was time well spent. She wanted to hear Reijuu’s and Kinugasa’s assessments of their division members’ strengths- and weaknesses- in order to build teams that maximized the former and minimized the latter. Unfortunately, they hadn’t had much to go on for the representatives of the Third and Tenth. Reijuu knew Shingo Kyomori and Ilsa had met him once (Kyomori was a remarkably agile man when faced with an angry arcanist), so that was something, but none of them knew much about Kurohashi Ito or Griffin Youngblood.

Well, we’ve done the best we can. Now it’s up to Reijuu and me to pull this thing off. The tall vice-captain strode into the Senkaimon courtyard, her white jinbaori fluttering slightly in the breeze, followed by the diminutive scientist who had demonstrated the dimensional phones. “All right, people. The following shinigami will be on my team: Kinugasa-fukutaichou, Tounyuu, Mineto, Kamenashi, Kurohashi, Sanzu, Hayashi, and Zakeriah. If you didn’t hear your name, you’re on Reijuu-fukutaichou’s team.” The teams had turned out a bit more divisionally divided than she had originally wanted, but as one of her favorite songs said, you can’t always get what you want.

"Kamenashi, pick up our communications gear from Sakamoto." She turned to one of the scientists tinkering with the Senkaimon. “Is the gate ready for transit?”

The purple-haired woman nodded. “Once we power it up, yeah. Can’t keep it on with these settings due to the dimensional flux. I take it you’re ready to go?”

“That’s right.” Ilsa didn’t bother asking her team if they were ready. She suspected that they had been ready for some time now.

Another scientist punched a command into a handheld device of some sort. After a few seconds, the enormous gates slid open, revealing nothing but the familiar white glow of an operating Senkaimon. Normally the living world would be on the other side. This time, though… the world of the Hollows lay beyond that white light.

Ilsa strode into the gate without looking back.

Team assignments redux
Just in case you didn't get it from Ilsa's list above, here are both teams:

Team One
Ilsa
Kyu
Mitsu
Yuurei
Kurohashi
Seitaro
Shizuka
Amaya
Zak

Team Two
Kyuketsu
Picca
Shingo
Udo
Griffin
Ryoujin
Hotaru
Jin

Team Two has to wait until everyone on Team One has gone through and the gate operators have set new coordinates in order to go through. You don't have to wait for everyone to post turns, just be aware of the timing difference when you write.

Wayne and I will be starting separate threads for Hueco Mundo.

And just like that, the female Vice-Captain vanished in the Senkaimon’s light. The room was filled with mixed reactions, some of uncertainty while others of stone-hard determination. Kyuketsu remained in the background of the forming crowd, steadily jumping glances from one ‘teammate’ to another. He made his picks with nothing but assumptions and first impressions. Whatever lay in store for them behind the gate, the only thing the Templar could do now was to have faith in his men. He made an oath to lead the shinigami through hell itself and come back alive in one piece. There was no way Kyuketsu was about to fail such a pact.

Feeling the two sets of blade dangling from his hip, the lieutenant licked his lips in growing anticipation. Though a normal individual would dread entering Hueco Mundo, Kyuketsu was the complete opposite. He was utterly aroused by the thought of entering the dunes. Perhaps it was a sick pleasure to subdue his cravings for combat... or a masochistic desire to stare Death in the eye and spit on his face. Whatever the reason, it didn’t matter now since the mission was already about to begin.

1,511 - FINAL

The youthful spell-sword took mental notes about the people that would be in the same team with her. There was one person that she knew before they would venture out into Hueco Mundo, the land of hollows, and that particular someone was Seitaro-fukutaichou. Making sure that Hangyaku was tucked safely into her obi, she strode through the gate.

Let's get this show on the road.

[65/499] Final

Several officers had disappeared from sight in the blinding white light of the senkaimon, headed to the world of constant peril, the graveyard of a many officers of the court which Shingo himself stood as an infant in the vast shadow of.

With long and winded exhale through the nose, Shingo released the tensions built up within him and sharpened his eyes to reflect the growing solidity and determination inside him. He’d pulled this confidence from a long-dormant and forbidden blood lust within him and from the presence of his unknown yet proven colleagues, both in and outside of his own division.

From his breast pocket, he again removed the Tsurume device, already folded into its typical origami figure-like form and activated it from the large white eye on its paper-thin head. The pupil rolled around wildly before gaining focus and coming to life.

“You heard everything?” Shingo asked, not removing his eyes from the gate in front of him.

“Yeah,” Ruru said, stretching about as a real man with stiff limbs would. “Hueco Mundo again, huh? Seems like it’s beginning to be our home away from home, isn’t it?”

Shingo laughed softly at the undeniable fact, the smell of the pale white sand still fresh in his nose as if he was standing there now. He gripped his zanpakutō readily as a few easy and straightforward steps carried him through the world-crossing gate and to the brink of hell once again.

[242/1,396] Final

Kyu looked at Ilsa with relief, although she was still nervous about heading back into Hueco Mundo. Things had been really weird, last time. She had still been in the Third back then, and the clashing wills among friends had been part of the reason she had left the Blitz. After Ilsa's harsh response, she didn't think that the Vice-captain would keep her and Mitsuyo on the same team.

To be honest, though, the brunette wasn't sure she would have listened if Ilsa had tried to force them apart. It wasn't just that she needed to talk with him and sort things out, but... Hueco Mundo was dangerous. Would it be arrogant to say she didn't trust anyone else to watch over him?

Walking up to the taller woman again, Kyu uncertainly leaned close and whispered, "Thank you." Looking away, then, she added, "As for why we were late, uh... I can explain that later." The girl was sure that her cheeks were probably red, so she quickly turned away, hoping Ilsa wouldn't see.

Shrugging sheepishly, Kyu noted, "Maybe it'll help to talk to another girl about it?" Wasn't that what normal girls did?

Quickly making her way back to Mitsu before the blond could reply, she clapped the boy hard on the back. "Looks like we're teamed up again!" she stated loudly, ignoring the uncomfortable look on his face. Leaning closer, she whispered from the side of her mouth, "This time, I won't let anything happen to you... I promise."

[251/531] Final

Zak rubbed his chin and nodded as he listened to the assigned team, he was too ignorant of everyone else's capabilities to know whether this was good balance or not but he assumed the Vice-Captains knew what they were doing. He nodded to his fellows. "Good luck. Don't find any action before we do." He slid the steel cigar case out of his robes and pulled one of his smaller cigarillos out, placed it between his lips and. He raised his hand in departure and strode into the light of the great gateway lighting the tobacco with a match as he went.

[102/1138] final

She was quite happy when she learned that she would be on Ilsa's team, along with, as far as she could guess, a couple of people from the First (although that much was a given).

Nodding at the Vice Captain's command, she dutifully approached the scientist and took the communication device as he carried it earlier. She carefully placed the bandolier over her shoulder, with the tripod of sorts kept on its long pocket. As it were, she left the phone hanging in her thick lavender obi, along with the cord.

Without further ado, the petite shinigami followed her Vice Captain and stepped through the Senkaimon.

Final [ 110 | 1164 ]

Amaya glanced to Zakeriah as the two of them followed the Vice Captain of the First through the Senkaimon. She had a sinking feeling as she reached the gate, and all she could do was give her fellow Third Seat a fake smile. She knew no one else in their group... actually she barely knew anyone who had come to the meeting, but yet she was entering Hueco Mundo with them. Taking one final breath, and glancing back at Kyuketsu and Ryoujin on last time, Amaya took her final step toward the gate, and without another second of hesitation she plunged into the realm of Hueco Mundo.
