Zakeriah - Mitsuhito - David - Kago - Igasho - Amaya

The canopy obscured all that it dictated. Only the thin, rare beam of sunlight managed to pierce its infinite veil, bathing the forest below in its ill green lighting. Ropy trees leaned in on those who stepped about, their forms clustering towards the alien presences in their home.

In the distance, a muffled animal’s cry echoed solitarily.

It did not see them, but felt them. That was enough. His form, wreathed in darkness and bone, shuddered with the weight of centuries as it rose. Lazily tracing the millenia of experience it had, he rattled his bones with a crackling echo. His voice, deep and rumbling with the dry rasp of some long-forgotten tomb, spilled out from the mind and coursed through his trifecta.

“Shinigami.”

It was an utterance of inevitability, of hunters come to sort out the prey they thought they had so easily cornered...yet not. Its shroud parted, ever so briefly, and with that came its smoky arms. Never ceasing in movement, the shrouds seemed to compose the six appendages rather than cover them. This was no prey, and its shapeless legs brought it level with the tops of the canopy.

Eyes peering at all angles, taking in impossible details, it inhaled deep of his hunters’ scents, of their power and minds, of their pasts and their futures. Of their nature...and sins. Drifting listlessly towards its inevitable meal, he felt the stirrings of his power tug away from the shroud.

The Sin Eater opened its eyes, and cackled with the malignant black that was its power.

David lay dazed and groggy, he didn’t wish to move. His body ached all over as if he had a faint recollection of the events with the arrancar. The twisted, dark woods were completely alien to him, at least what of it he could see between his face to his arm. This is weird, he thought to himself. How did I get here? Where are the others? Should I get up? No! I’m taking too much a risk to draw attention to myself, but on the ground I am more vulnerable and I ca-

“Shinigami.” Echoed across the area.

Brilliant, more things trying to kill me, just what I wanted. Why did I think this was a good idea? The Shinigami asked himself, slowly spiralling into despair,
I Should have poisoned them all when I had the chance. They would NEED me to cure them, I would hold power over them and we wouldn't be in this mess, albeit at a lower intensity, residual thoughts corrupted by the arrancar’s influence still swirled around in his mind.

The tormented medic continued to lay, ear pressed to the ground, hoping that he didn’t have to give away his location to find out what thing had called out or whether he had to face it alone.

He did not know what happened. Just moments before, he was stabbed by Zak’s swords and vaporized by an enormous Cero, now he was lying in a strange forest.

Looking to his side, he saw a familiar face. It was the face of David Graves, the healer he had previously met.

His thoughts were still fuzzy, in the previous room he had reacted in a way not typical to him. Now his mind began to clear up and he started to think right again.

Standing up, he walked to David and wanted to say something, before a word cut him off.

“Shinigami.”

This word echoed through the forest and managed to send shivers down his spine. Great, another problem.

Turning to David, he said, “Sorry for what happened in the last room, I did not know what was going on, it was not me that said these words or got so full of his own pride.

“Okay, it was I, but then again it wasn’t. Heck, my mind is still a little fuzzy. Let me check something first.”

Starting to use Reiraku Takan, he checked for the race of the one who said that word, with the hope that the owner of the voice already was in range.

[207/207] minus quote

Don't know the race yet, will ask raph if I am ready to sense it. Additionally I hope I am still in time, RL and stuff q.q. Finally, dont know whats going on with the wounds of the last collab, will ask Cad about that and will add that in the next turn too ^^'.

The shock of the sudden, environmental transition threw the vice-captain’s mind into a chaotic tailspin. One minute he was staring down the oncoming bankai attack of his former mentor, the blitzkrieg captain Ritoru Furousha, and the next his opponent was sheathing his blade and walking away as the world around him warped. No warrior in their right mind would suddenly stop mid-strike, let alone the frenzied captain. Coupling that with how Ritoru seemed stuck in the past, nothing was making sense.</SPAN>

Stuck in the past... That’s it! Kago excitedly repeated in his mind as if a light bulb illuminated the cobweb filled corners of his brain. He was a construct stuck in a single point in time!
</SPAN>

Immediately, the memory of working with a child-like version of his old mentor encompassed his every thought. The last time he worked with a construct stuck in an individual moment was his first division test. He was forced to work with Faust-soutaichou’s memory of Ritoru in order to prove his leadership ability. There was only one device capable of creating such a lifelike reality in entirety of the Soul Society.
</SPAN>

Redeemer...
</SPAN>

As if on cue, a malevolent voice echoed across the covered, canopy expanse. “Shinigami.”
</SPAN>

The overwhelming weight of the creature’s reiatsu blanketed the entire area. Despite the suffocating sensation of dread and guilt lingering within the air, Kago felt an echo of familiarity hidden in the shroud. Every inch of his being felt surrounded by the beast’s power, as if it were reaching out and touching his soul. Instantly, he knew that it was too late to cloak his reiatsu; his opponent already knew where he was.
</SPAN>

Turning towards the source of the sound, Kago spotted two shinigami laying in wait. He quickly strode over to the pair and spoke candidly.
</SPAN>

“Conserve your energy,” he announced to the taller shinigami as he felt the man’s power reach out like a hand through the darkness. “That construct’s hollow form possesses a shroud that seems to mask all sensing capabilities. Any attempt to assess its true strength is worthless.”
</SPAN>

Crimson petals gave life to an explosive display of pyre, flames erupting within the colorful forest. The former assassin was bounding through the air, determined to eliminate the woman, but before his strike could land, the jets of fire overtook him, engulfing all that could be seen. The light grew brighter, blinding the reaper but the searing touch of the flame would fade from his senses. Everything that the reaper’s mind was composing in that moment -his position, the movement of his blade, the environment around him – it all seemed to unravel and let go. The freefall of consciousness overtook the prisoner’s motives and covered him in a haze of simple existence.

That same haze soon faded into a visible fog, rolling across a barren forest floor. The reaper took a breath, as if waking from a dream, trying to anchor himself with reason. Had he defeated the woman? Had he died? The warrior’s eyes moved across the sullen woods as the sounds behind him muffled within his mind. Had this been the very same forest where he had just been standing? Did the explosion destroy the felicity and vibrance that he had just seen? No. Another blink gave him the time to comprehend his environment . This was a different place – or a different time. Turning around, almost expecting to see a body of bones, Igasho instead caught sight of the nearby shinigami.

Kago. Mitshuhito.

Mitsuhito was a former subordinate of Igasho’s and Kago his former captain. The burly man could almost take solace in their sight but the relief was stunted, grounded by the former officer’s understanding of the reality of the situation. Or what wasn’t reality. Within the place of unknowns and uncertainties, Igasho could only think of the kanji. The thought was enough to expose a rare weakness within the assassin – letting his guard down – as the lifeless voice in the distance echoed. Although the prisoner held his sword in hand, he hadn’t even heard the simple phrase from the distant figure.

The forest pressed in, its dry stillness making the silence stifling. The single utterance echoed about, along with the whispers and talkings of his prey. Slowly, surely, more forms appeared amidst the blank darkness. Soon its prey numbered in six, and his trifecta chuckled greedily.

No more sound escaped his lips, the faces of Sin Eater peering at all about it. No details lost, no stone unappraised. In but an instant its form was darting amongst the shadows, the slight movement of his shroud creating the slightest of sounds in the dank woods.

Clacking its claws slightly, its form darted every which way in its dark habitat. Each glimpse, futile. Each view, insubstantial. The slightest rustling of the bushes, deafening in the silence of the forest, was the only warning before his first strike.

The bolas whipped through the underbrush, the three ends barbed in some terrible fashion as they bee-lined for the chest - and arms - of the shinigami with the silver-tipped hair.

The rustling was gone, and with it the hunter, leaving the silent forest to its lazy drawl.

[ 182 / 421 ]

David slowly looked up towards the assassin whom he perceived as being as calm and composed as he would have been on the hill, if only the medic could say the same about himself. The healer was trembling, his hair was matted with dirt and twigs tangled in it. His face scuffed and his hands grazed. The shinigami looked completely worn and weary from his experiences.

The sudden rustling in the dark spooked the medic. He could feel something unusual, like thousands of unseen eyes were fixed upon him.

(Wow I totally didn't see this thread pop up. If I'm too late tell me and I'll bow out.)

Rage, confusion, blood, and loss...all of it swallowed up by an impossible while light emitted by the angelic hollow. What had occurred there was something beyond anything Zakeriah could remember or reason. Some part of his knew that he had been put under some kind of influence that drove both he and his fellows against one another. He remembered his sword slicing into and through them but it all felt like a dream, in truth, he wasn't sure if any of it had really happened.

Now he found himself in a forest dimly lit by a sun that tried in vain to pierce the protective canopy. At first he thought himself alone, perhaps he had killed the younger ones, but ahead he saw movement. His sword was already in the comfortable resting place of his palm, so far everything here meant him death, and he wasn't about to be caught off guard. So too, was he done with announcing himself or giving others the chance to join with him. Potential allies, it turned out, were far more likely to become potential enemies as well.

The Templar stepped forward from the brush to see four other shinigami: two he could not mistake, while two others he knew he had met at some point but could not place them. Before he had the chance to step forward the bolas exploded from the brush not far from him and raced toward the center of the clearing.

"Down!" Zak shouted reflexively.

[247]

It was the whistling of the bola rather than voices around her that awakened the Templar from her slumber. She couldn't be sure if it was the lingering effects of her coma, the wound in her side, or the nature of this maze that had telephoned her from the flames into this darkness around her. What she did know was that as he eyes opened she couldn't quite understand the dark branches above, or the figures around her.

Slowly rising into a sitting position, her eyes moved calmly through the group. She recognized Zak shouting something she couldn't comprehend, and Igasho staring into the dank woods.

For a moment she continued to observe with a silent oblivious smile on her face, still obviously outside the situation that was unfolding in front of her.

WOA WOA, I 100% missed this until Colin told me about it like an hour ago... Sorry...

[133/133]

While he tried to track down the owner of the cry, Kago turned up. After Mitsuhito listened to him, he stopped his sensing skill and turned around.

“Hi Kago, nice to see you. Please tell me, how do you know that this thing is shrouding its presence? Did you fight it already?”

While he awaited an answer, another familiar face turned up, this time it was Igasho who joined the flock

He wanted to speak to his senpai and greet him too, but there was no time to do so, because he suddenly was attack.

Nothing indicated the oncoming attack, except for a quiet rustling noise he could not hear because of all the sounds around him. Even the ‘down’ Zak shouted out was too late for him to dodge the attack.

Barely able to turn into a better position, he got hit by the bolas which wrapped themselves around his arms and torso, before it began to cord him. If he had not moved into a more stable stand, the attack probably would have rushed him off his feet.

Luck was on his side though. Had the attack hit him just a few days ago, he probably would have been in deep shit, but now he knew a way to get out of such a binding.

Relaxing his body, he carefully tried to move his arms. Inch after inch the rope of the bola began to loosen up, while he continued a mix of relaxing his arms, moving them a little and pressing them against the rope. All this time he tried to stay alert. He did not know where the enemy was or if the balls of the bola were explosive, but he knew that he would flash step away as soon as there was something cooking.

- "Escaped Prisoner"

As long as a skilled hand-to-hand practitioner can move at least one limb by a small amount, they can manage to break free of some restraints. Requiring a combination of finesse and brute force, the user can escape from their bindings in one turn.

This technique costs 1,000 reiatsu and is effective on bindings that cost up to twice that much.

Requirements: 4,000 Hakuda

As the shinigami wriggled from his binds, a certain sense of lethargy overcame him. His struggles became less pronounced, his mind less resistant to his body’s current predicament. Ultimately, he slouched off the winding cords but a certain dullness had overtaken his eyes.

The fleeting sounds of the shroud continued to echo every which way, drowned in the louder responses and calls of the shinigami. Its eyes darted to another target, and his hands dipped into its endless shroud for a brief moment.

The deep, trembling sound of something large being swung sounded briefly, before the trees nearest the healer exploded, the only thing visible through their thick branches being a large length of chain and a disturbingly-shaped sphere of steel.

In the likeness of a bloated human face, the sphere was quickly revealed to be attached to the chain as it swung around to catch the healer at shoulder level.

[ 151 / 572 ]

The drowning echoes suddenly became crisp and synchronized with reality as Igasho saw the tendrils pierce the dark forestry. The bleak, distant enemy had immediately struck out at the younger assassin, who recoiled and reacted surprisingly quick. Mitsuhito had momentarily grabbed the prisoner’s attention, as his once-novice-level agility was able to keep him from being instantly struck down by the attack.

The barefoot reaper gripped the hilt of his zanpakutou, ready to move forward when another strike came for the greenhorn healer. The massive boulder of steel hurled between the ominous tree trunks, trailed by a silver chain, only a second or two from crushing the young man. In that split second, Igasho, sensing the novice shinigami’s reiatsu, realized he wouldn’t be able to deflect the attack, and that there seemed to be a different kanji on his hand. The boy was valuable for the moment but the prisoner didn’t need to waste his energy without gauging the enemy first.

Igasho’s eyes turned to meet Kago’s as he snapped his fingers, hoping to grab his attention. Before confirming any sort of plan, the burly reaper moved in a flash step, across the creature’s field of sight, and released his blade’s spirit with a whisper. Slashing his curvy blade at the massive ball of steel, the former officer hoped to intercept the strike and give the former captain an opening.

David desperately tried to avoid the gargantuan wrecking ball of steel heading for him. Babbling he even unleashed his shikai in the naive hope that it would be able to absorb the hit, however the bruises and light cuts on his back are evidence that even being thrown could potentially do more harm than good.

Seeing how all his scrambling had done nothing to remove himself David prepared receive the worst of it as best he could when a silver flash crossed his field of view. What is that? A sword? Kidou? an illusion?

The harsh screech of steel against steel sounded in the forest, a burst of noise that almost seemed to make the trees vibrate in place. Thrown by the force of the attack, the shinigami slid backwards against the moist dirt, his back bumping slightly into the healer he was defending.

His stance did not slip.

As he slowly relaxed his sword arm, however, a peculiar sensation took hold of him. A terrible itch, not painful but equally unavoidable. He felt it spread from his stomach outwards ever so slightly, pulling at his skin with some innate hunger.

Shaking off the feeling, Igasho nonetheless couldn’t help but wonder if his stomach was growling.

The harsh ringing continued to reverberate about the dim forest, Sin Eater’s form darting to and fro about the thick brush. Words were lost on these ones, they answered with action. So action would be their undoing. Its hands slipped beneath his cowl once more, the blackened shroud host to all menageries of its derelict arsenal.

The sounds of snapping twigs and trampled brush filled the air about them, before the thick forestry was broken by a massive form. The size of a small house, the massive hollow’s six arms gripped a thin spear firmly, dashing in a calculated path to the dazed woman who remained semi-prone on the ground.

[ 222 / 794 ]

Watching the chaos unfold around him, the vice-captain felt no urgency to spring into action. Even when his former subordinate snapped his fingers to gain his attention, he merely stared blankly at Igasho as he blocked the attack leveled at one of the other shinigami. The cause for his lack of action did not stem from an outside force; he had focused his attention inward as the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. Regrettably, he saw only one course of action that could lead to their success.

“I need all of you to trust me,” Kago announced boldly to all of his companions. “None of this is real.”

Reappearing next to Igasho after a flash step, he carefully lowered his voice and spoke quickly. “I am not sure where this will send you, but I am certain it will release you from the chains of this false reality. Gather as many other shinigami as you can and track down the real version of Raifuku. Force him to release the rest of us.

“Just as you believed in me when I was removed from captaincy, I believe in you. Know that I’m truly sorry for what must be done.”

Before his former subordinate could question his actions, the vice-captain drove the scimitar form of his shikai through the man’s chest.

[567]

After his little escape, Mitsuhito’s eyes were heavy and his eyelids dropped repeatedly.

He only saw through half-closed eyes, how David was attacked and Igasho came to his rescue.

Thinking about it, he did not know why he was this lazy all of a sudden. Trying to keep his eyes open, he saw a giant being walking out of the forest, before dashing in the direction of the women sitting there, with a spear held in all of its six arms.

There was no time to think, even though his body continued to getting lazier and lazier, he tried to focus his energy and released his Zanpakutou.

"Jagt sie alle, tsū inu chikushou!”

While the gloves began to expand, he lost no time. Casting his strongest Hadou, he shouted, “Hadou number fourty-four, One Hundred Wooden Arrows.”

While around fifty arrows flew in the direction of the hollow, his eyes closed for a second again. Damn, no time being lazy!

His gloves now were formed completely into their shikai state and with that, he began to form the biggest orbs he was able to in front of his hands and feet. After they were created, he kicked and punched them into the hollows directon. He just hoped it was enough to at least get the hollow away from the woman.

After this strenuous effort, he breathed heavily while his eyes began to close again, this time he was not able to open them for around two seconds. Man, what is going on?

While he opened his eyes again, his sight was still blurry. Because of this, he only heard Kago but did not see what he was doing, nor did he notice Igasho’s death

Mitsuhito can infuse the air in front of his fist or foot with reiatsu into a ball-like sphere and can push that against an enemy. This can hit a target in a distance up to 20 meter. Each attack costs 5-10% reiatsu. The cost is calculated by the size of the ball, from 5% for a tennis ball sized to 10% for a football/soccer sized one. At 2500 reiatsu he can utilize this at only 5%.
Each full 2500 reiatsu he reaches, the ability to form a bigger sphere is increased by 1%, capping by 15000 total reiatsu meaning 10%.

Putting her hands down Amaya pushed herself to her knees before she noticed the movement in the forest, and the lumbering hollow headed directly toward her. As a series of attacks was launched against the beast careening toward her, the Templar's hand sluggishly moved to the green blade perched on her back.

Still crouched over, the woman realized her movements were so unusually slow she might not be able to counter the massive form moving toward her. Straining she pulled forward her free hand forward, and she spoke a simple incantation.

“Three sparrows fall from heaven. The fallen Garuda faces the sky. Bakudou Number Thirty, Shitotsu Sansen.”

Hoping it would slow the creature Amaya lunged to the left, her mind too focused on survival to notice the death of her new comrade.

Zak, having been on the perimeter of all of this had a full view of all these happenings. The orb exploded from wood and foliage and upon seeing the warped face he had the sudden thought that this was the form of their enemy; another hollow warped in both form and purpose. When the chain snapped the orb in a new course he realized that this was not the case, simply a foe too cowardly to show itself and trying to pick off the weakest of the group early on. This is not where he was supposed to be, he had taken the other Kanji, two of them in fact. David and Mitsuhito were fodder, left on the field by his blade...

Then Kago drove his sword into Igasho's chest while declaring all of this to be an illusion. Lightening danced from his arms and down his released blade. The Templar didn't know how to react to that, he had just killed two people that now stood in the clearing with them. Was this all an illusion? Were they to be trapped forever in endless battle?

Was there anything better?

Fight...endless fight from which he would rise even if he fell; a fight from which none would stand in his way, or could, where he didn't have to worry about control. The Black Wolf laughed; he laughed loudly, joyously, and madly. Let Igasho die; perhaps he would be reborn and rebuilt in the next battleground. Let the healer be crushed beneath the great ball, he would be fine later.

"Show yourself!" Zak roared. "Fight me! Fight me forever!"

(Yarp, I'm startin to lose it!!)

All happened in a few brief instances of time.

The spear pierced the woman just above the right arm, pinning her shoulder to the ground.

Sin Eater’s other arms withdrew into its shroud.

The beams which shot out as a desperate attempt to resist him fizzled uselessly as one arm swung out, adorned with a wide, pointed kite shield with a distinct serrated bottom. Swinging around as the poorly aimed arrows clattered uselessly around it and against his shield, its prey beheld an assortment of inhumane weapons as the spear was withdrawn, revealing the unholy construct which stood before them.

In chaos, it thrived. In madness, it stewed. In sin...it wallowed.

The sluggish, tired movements of the woman’s recent resuscitation wore off quickly with the pain, pain that soon became a fierce fire in her gullet. The masochistic tendencies buried in her core came to the front, the aching burn in her shoulder overpowering her with its dangerous allure.

All the while the sluggish movements of the silver-tipped haired one continued to take in the world around him with an increasing lethargy. The blood spilt by the leader was not a vibrant crimson but a tainted black, and in an instant the sharp spray of ebon gore that had decorated the Vice-Captain had vanished, disappeared to the physical eye.

Now the hunger was in Kago, the deep unsettling desire for more as it shook his sword arm, a distant feeling of malnutrition. The one, the only one, who had reacted successfully to it was now gone, and with it all sense of hesitancy for this group. They had succumbed to their sins so long ago, he was simply picking up the pieces to be collected in him once more.

They claimed illusion, farcity, surreality. No such mercy would spare them agony.

From its uppermost left hand, dripped the meteor hammer which had nearly claimed the life of the medic. Its bloated face, tongue protruded in some agonized manner, gave some sense of wanting in its vastness.

From its middle left hand, it gripped the spear which was now decorated with fresh blood. Along its shaft was the disturbing likeness of human skin, ending in yet another human face with tongue protruded. Its mouth was pulled into a sickening grin, the tongue sharpened and edged as it seemed to revel in the blood it tasted.

From its lowermost left hand, dangled the three pronged bolas which had ensnared the body and mind of the assassin. Each end was no simple ball, but seemed to be a caltrop-like contraption, the four points terminating in some dozen miniature barbs.

From its uppermost right hand, another polearm was gripped. A trident, its three hooked points detailed in some impish figure, each gleamed in the dim sunlight. The winding, twisting shaft led down to a similarly hooked pommel.

From its middle right hand, was the same shield which had so casually protected it. Its kited appearance was offset by the unusual sheen which it took, mirroring all who took it in with some otherworldly quality.

From its lowermost right hand, it gripped a simple flanged mace. The demonic, jet-black coloration of its entirety somehow made itself entirely unnerving amongst its brethren.

Sin Eater was hungry, and so it would feast. This, he could tell easily.

As the assassin slid to the ground with a meaty thump, the traitor among them seemed grimly set on some otherworldly task. Consumed by their sin, they could not comprehend let alone coordinate the situation they now found themselves in.

Its three heads, each identical to the next, surveyed the entire scene with a twisted delight. Its armory seemed to vibrate with the hunger it felt, and he had to reign in his instincts to wallow in such an easy hunt.

Now sound slipped from his trifecta, the trio of heads echoing in a single, echoing voice. “Wander to your deaths, wallow in your sins, your deaths chosen at your own hands...”

Its form disappeared, a slight movement giving the easiest of hints as to the hollow’s Sonido. It reappeared briefly in front of the Lieutenant, the trident lancing forward to catch the thick-bladed scimitar mid-clash.

In an instant, the flanged mace came upwards towards the man’s ribs, the trident twisting to keep a firm hold on the sword it had locked against.

“...You are my feast to claim.”

Okay, so it should go without saying that unless the effects are brought on by yourself, I will write you being affected by something being done by Sin Eater. Please refrain from making assumptions without speaking to me first.

There was a flash so infinitely bright it awoke Amaya from whatever state she had been in. Her mind was alive and sharp, burning with the fuel of the pain and twisting and contorting itself into her most primal of sins.

Pushing herself up from the ground in a single movement, Amaya sneered at the beast in front of her. Her hands snapped knowingly to the black and orange blade seated on her back.

One set of words the beast spoke resonated with her,

“...wallow in your sins...”

“Oh I will,” Amaya muttered. Then licking her lips in anticipation, she drew the two blades.

“Bankai!”

The Templar turned to the hollow, and followed its movements with her own shunpo. Attempting to take advantage of its attacks on the other shinigami, she launched a senka strike with both blades she held.
