Popping My Collar - Discussion

Now that Popping My Collar is done, we need to move into the next set of klabs dealing with this rather than leave it in the air to failure. I think we can do small klabs around the same time dealing with different theories. Necessary characters can jump around as needed (mainly Adelaide and Lucia).

Will, it's all very well that you want people to discover how to remove the collars, but they're going to get nowhere and only end up chasing their tails if you don't tell one person involved the correct way of doing it, so that if someone stumbles close or hits it right on, then that person who knows can write to that effect.

I disagree Nate. The way Will is doing it, is actually quite nice. It removes the chance for it to be easy as we know some people would make it easy if they knew the real answer, same way with learning a new trained skill really easy.

Most of the collars don't ruin the characters, so he hasn't made any of them unplayable. People just need to think outside the box.

Just a reminder, I did give another hint in chat the other day.

First hint from before was, "You won't get them off by doing nothing (or talking about it)."

New hint was, "The answer is not in Soul Society."

More to that point, the point was made that we need to try something. Going off of Will's last hint, Doc and I have a pair of 9th/Former 9th PCs that are going to earth to investigate and see what we come up with. I believe Thread is bringing his PC along for the ride, but Hiren said that a shitload of Shini showing up out of the blue wouldn't sit well with the AHs as things stand.

Exploring Hueco Mundo should be considered, but as we all know, shit will likely hit the fan for those that go, whether that be a horde of Hollows or Prometheus himself making a cameo. I suggested only taking a very small group (no more than 3 people) and as few people with the collars as possible going.

To clarify, I'm not directing shit or taking charge of anything; I'm just saying me, Thread, and Doc are going to earth to see what's up, but going to HM is probably going to be unavoidable.

...and Will pretty much shot down the Quincy idea, too, for those that hadn't heard, so... ...yeah

Spoiler: I have told more than one individual.

Just because the individual isn't you doesn't mean it's nobody. ; )

As I said before, it's tragic that Lin and Froggu went AWOL because Shadow Hunting bounty was supposed to give us information about the collars. Which, by necessity, means that Cheese already knows or was going to be told what to do.

In fact, if I thought Cheese would be reliably posting, I'd suggest attempting that bounty again, but he's got two jobs and a bout of depression right now and I don't count on him to return texts let alone turns until his last two weeks at one of those jobs is up.

I'll start working him, though. If I can get him on for just that one collab, it could be the break we need.

lol I wasn't saying that you should tell me, god knows i don't write nearly enough and my character has nothing to do with this atm. I just didn't know you'd told anybody. M'bad, good sir.

WE HAVE OUR FIRST COLLAR OFFAGE!

On my bounty chap with Shun, Manzou and Arashi fought Nightmare, defeated it and, after it was cleansed, black flames enveloped Arashi's collar (something about a skull in there, too) and the collar came off.

There were hints (that went right over both mine and Shun's head) about it during the fight; the blue flames erupting from Nightmare's eyes, which were part of its natural appearance, turned to black flames at certain points. Prometheus' ability was named "Black Eyes" so that does have great significance. Whether or not this is particular to Nightmare is unsure, but this may likely be something that happens with most Hollows or in a particular way with each individual one. I'm not so sure that the way to solve it is to have those with collars go to the human world and kill any Hollow they find, but who knows.

Read the collab thoroughly (particularly Kago's turns) and see what happened. Read Shun's turns as well just to see if there was anything in particular that he did that could've brought this about; he did use his Zanpakutou and cartwheeled around quite a few times.

Arashi went to report what happened so I think we may need to bring together all of the affected Shinis to see what we can come up with.

Lolllll, Sev. xD

Ketch, Kurome is Prometheus' horcruxes in these cursed collarzu. xD
The surviving members of the scouting party are all affixed with Prometheus' Kurome (Black Eyes). These cannot be removed by normal means (doing so will result in permanent character death). The Kurome are tinged with madness and affect each individual differently, as follows:

Also, before you try to reread everything (considering that it's long and killing a hollow doesn't guarantee that your collar will come off), the whole hollow should probably be considered first.

Shun's collar hampers his speed, Nightmare is fast (although it's not necessarily NM's specialty).

Kurome have observable skulls, so does nightmare.

Flaming blue eyes? The Kurome came to us through a black flame (well, not really. From skulls that came out of the black flame). When the flame in his eyes disappeared, the Kurome's eye flame lit up.

Also, I know it's a minor minor detail, but Nightmare is black. Midnight black with a skull, almost similar to how the darkness stuff in HM was portrayed, alongside with the skulls and stuff.

Nightmare - Menos Grande

Reiatsu: 9,750
Combat: 4,000
Ability: 2,000
Sonido: 3,750
Emptiness: 8,500

A midnight-black horse with gleaming white skull and flaming blue eyes. This adjuchas is fast and powerful.

From those spreading cracks came ebon flames, spewing out, blackening the night surrounding them. The cracks continued to spread, and the flames grew higher, burning with a mixture of heat and dread, both sensations washing over those nearest to the flames. They climbed skyward, a towering inferno of blackness.

Amid the flames, they could see shapes moving: empty eye sockets set in empty skulls, dozens of them, full of malice.

Death itself stared at the shinigami from those hollow sockets. The clamoring flames grew darker still, washing away all light and leaving them all in complete blackness. From that void came the mad wails of the damned, the hellish shrieks of the demons.

Even in that lightless place, they could see them: embodiments of the insanity that permeated these sands, the disembodied skulls surrounded in black flames shrieked toward the shinigami, frozen in terror and dread, feet locked down to the sand.

I'm pretty sure how you RP your char weighs heavily on it, but I couldn't help but to notice them. xD

Uh whoah didn't notice this thread. Personally, I'm still somewhat confused as to what the solution is to get rid of the collars, and I know how some people have been thinking and delving deeper into Prometheus himself and his name's origins in mythology and whatnot, but maybe that's just it. We're thinking too hard about this. All I can suggest is to really just try and overcome whatever your curse prevents you from doing. For example, Ryoujin lost his most prized skill: hohou. Not even just running around or shunpoing - moving itself became a hassle due to having to cartwheel. This took away all of his skills except for kidou. Despite that, I tried to be as creative as possible in my bounty fight and managed to push past whatever his limitations were - even going so far as to use his shikai. This may just be speculation, and I'm pretty sure I'm 99.99% wrong about this, but I would suggest just focusing on your character individually. While it is good to discuss your problems with others IG, the fact of the matter is your character is the only one experiencing the effects of the collars, and therefore, it's up to them to figure out how to push forward and move on. It could also have something to do with whatever your last actions were in the scouting thread before Sayis and Theron showed up. Perhaps if you repeat that action or improve upon it in some way (don't ask me how; that's for you to figure out), you may be able to free yourself.

If this is tl;dr, basically what I'm trying to say is: Don't let the curse hamper your character's progression even if that means having to do things that aren't exactly what would be considered orthodox (for example: my turn in my bounty collab where I used tsuzuri raiden and cartwheeled to Nightmare and electrocuted it by vaulting over it, or when I summoned three long swords using Ryoujin's shikai despite the fact that he could not use his zanpakutou itself outside of that one instance).

First, let me apologize for my inaction on the bounty with Romana, Froggu, and Cheese. RL has been challenging of late, and I don't foresee it getting any better until the semester's out.

That being said, I'm plugging away at a couple of collabs with very patient people, one of whom is Raph. That one will be the first in an arc that will force Ilsa to do her utmost even with the collar on. So if the key is the affected shinigami working around their curse in a life or death situation, that will probably occur.
