Item Submissions

An item is an object or piece of equipment that your character can use. As implied by their name, these objects are completely physical. Exclusive items can range in function, with some being better suited to combat than others.

The Foundry shows all currently-approved items, to kickstart some ideas for you or help you figure out the numbers.

Basic Items: Basic items are those with no distinguishing special abilities. These are standard items and weapons that can be crafted or purchased through the market. These weapons do not take up your exclusive item slots, though you may only carry multiple basic or mundane items within reason. This essentially means that your character really shouldn't be carrying six swords, two rifles, and three suits of armor simultaneously.

These items can be purchased through the market, or through the appropriate crafter. The strength of these weapons and description on how they work are found in the crafting thread.

Guild Items: These are available only to members of a particular guild, and usually possess special properties. These items are submitted by the guild's owner, and they decide what restrictions there are, if any, on their acquisition.

Exclusive Items: Each character is capable of carrying one exclusive item per esteem tier. Items are separated into tiers of strength and items of higher tiers can only be used when your character has achieved a certain level of esteem. An EX item's tier may be up to the esteem tier it is associated with. For example, a character with Notable Esteem can have one D-tier item (for Unknown) and one C-tier item (for Notable); they can have two D-tier items (the item for Notable can be up to C-tier, but can also be lower); but they cannot have two C-tier items (the item for Unknown cannot be greater than D-tier). Eventually, an Exalted character could have one EX item of each rarity.

You can carry additional items, not counted as exclusive, within reason. You can also have additional possessions, including additional exclusive items, which are not carried on your character.

Item Tier

Esteem Tier

S

Exalted (60,000 Vigor)

A

Renowned (30,000 Vigor)

B

Prominent (10,000 Vigor)

C

Notable (3,000 Vigor)

D

Unknown (0 Vigor)

The higher the tier of the item, generally, the stronger the item is. Lower rank items can be resubmitted to strengthen them once the user has reached a higher tier. However, upgrading requires contacting a crafter to perform the upgrades or completing them yourself. All exclusive items, regardless of acquisition, must be submitted to staff for approval.

The special abilities given to these weapons must carry a flat cost (no percents). The cost may change depending on changing tiers. Exclusive weapons carry a damage potential similar to all other crafted weapons, with their damage based on the crafter and Terra Regia used to craft the exclusive item.

Why do you keep changing the name? As a carry-over from HD we had 'unique' feats and 'unique' items. 'Unique' was always a misnomer because characters could get multiple feats, so we limited that to one per character. For items, we still allow two. To better distinguish the items from the feats, and the fact that they aren't actually 'unique,' I've been trying to find a more suitable name. As of right now, the name is 'exclusive' because the items are exclusive to your character... and I just like the sound of 'EX items.'

Name: Calida Calces
Alternate Names: Hot Stuff

User: Keydis Lysistrata

Level: B

Acquisition:
A blacksmith is nothing without a source of heat. Keydis spent time forging an axe that could serve as an anvil, for when smithing needs to be done on the go, but a campfire means little to hardened steel or terra regia. Originally intending to seek an engineer to make a portable forge, Keydis instead settled on the idea of seeking an enchanter. Her friend, Annora, had enchanted the sword Vallum to create intense flames -- she just needed something like that! (Writing Pending)

Item Description:
The ring is a thin band of auritium nearly hidden beneath fragments of obsidian. When in use, the metal begins to shine, glowing red-orange showing through the cracks in the obsidian.

Ability Description:
The hand wearing Calida Calces has absolute control of temperature in metal it touches. The enchantment recalls the severe heat and violent energy that shaped the obsidian, visiting the pyroclastic forces on the metal at hand and rapidly turning it red hot, capable of reaching forging temperatures with extended contact. The wearer's hand is insulated from the heat, as well, allowing the user to grip superheated metal without injury, and in fact, is capable of drawing heat back out of metal to induce cold or cryogenic treatment.

Effect:
The wearer's hand is insulated from damage through temperature. Activating the ring costs 500 Vigor, and its effects can be sustained until contact is broken.

The primary purpose of the ring is to allow forging on the go, allowing the user to perform blacksmithing repairs or minor fabrications while not in combat. While it takes several rounds of continuous contact to heat metal to a soft state for forging or to supercool it for cryogenic treatment, it is possible to rapidly heat metal to a dangerous degree with brief contact. Metal super-heated by the ring deals burning damage at a magnitude of one on contact, in addition to any other damage if the heated item is a weapon. The heat lasts up to three rounds. At least two rounds must pass after the effect ends before it can be activated again.

Name: Promoveo
Alternate Names: Move Forward

User: Keydis Lysistrata

Level: A

Acquisition:
After defeating the vistra Caeancora, Keydis recovered as much as she could carry from the wreck of the airship, Promoveo. Ultimately, she decided to forge the remnants of the airship into a new sword to replace the two she had lost in the battle. Turning to her friend Annora, she commissioned an enchantment to capture the nature of the airship and the spirit of its moniker, Promoveo.

As a testament to her growing prowess as a blacksmith, Keydis later reinforced the weapon with vitatium.

Item Description:
Keydis has long favored the schiavona for its unique blend of characteristics. The basket guard allows her to protect her hands without bulky armored gauntlets; the long, tapered blade is well-suited to finesse plays and parries; the broad width of the blade grants it the stability for more aggressive slashing motions. Promoveo captures all these qualities. The schiavona's hilt is unique, however: rather than an intricate basket of flattened, leaf-like bars, Promoveo's guard is a simple spiral formed from fine vitatium tubing. The grip itself is covered in fine chain mesh, and the pommel is a traditional cat's head with squared sides and two pointed tips; a circle in the center of the cat's head is engraved with the woman's maker's mark, 'KeyLys.' The entire hilt -- guard, grip, and pommel -- is covered in a violet stain, intended to emulate the unusual metal left by Caeancora.

The blade of the sword is nearly a meter long and tapered, three fingers wide at the base; there is a single, deep fuller running the length of the blade. It is edged on both sides, the sharpened sections of the blade bearing the distinctive bright emerald sheen of vitatium. The rest of the blade, however, has a grainy grey appearance closer to iron.

Runes are etched into the metal near to the base of the blade, on either side of the fuller. When the sword is drawn, there are constant currents of air surrounding the blade; while they are invisible to the eye, they upset the air around the blade which may catch loose dirt and leaves.

The sheath is soft, black leather, with a violet-stained cap and choke, each etched in runes.

Ability Description:
Permanently imbued with a number of wind-related Bellator spells, Promoveo's blade is constantly surrounded by rushing air currents.

Effect:
At the cost of 500 Vigor, Keydis is able to unleash a violent rush of air, either from the pommel or from the blade, rapidly propelling her 30m forward or backward.

Upgrade of the current Promoveo. Increasing the range of the wind effect but otherwise it remains the same.

Name: [Scripta Volant] - Consumable
Alternate Names: Paper Talismans

User: Vita Dominus

Level: C

Acquisition:
Through his study of Alchemy and Enchanting Vita devised a way to embed parchment with enchanted spells and traps making them powerful talismans, drawing inspiration from folklore and customs of the distant island nation of Songen. The specially derived ink is capable of setting a dormant enchantment upon the paper, to be activated at a later time by Vita.

Item Description:
A paper talisman, or ofuda, is a small, rectangular piece of parchment with symbols and an intricate spell matrix drawn onto it in faint grey ink. When activated, the ink first darkens and then begins to glow. A small weight is sealed in one end of the parchment, allowing the talisman to be more easily thrown.

Ability Description:
The special parchment and ink are designed to be used together, with the particulars to their mixture and activation known only to Vita. The spell matrix incorporates the elements of a chosen spell, and the ink reacts to an influx of the machina's will and vigor, activating the stored spell enchantment on the fly.

Effect:
Each talisman stores a single prepared spell, awaiting activation by Vita. The activated talisman acts as a single-use Trap Enchantment. The spell used must be one which Vita can personally cast, not exceeding the tier of his Enchanting and Alchemy skills. Its magnitude is determined by the lesser of Vita's Alchemy or Enchanting skill. In addition to the material costs of the talisman, Vita must also use the minimum material necessary to cast the spell, if any.

To activate, Vita must hold the talisman and expend 250 vigor. The activated talisman will adhere to surfaces or creatures (besides Vita), and Vita can throw a talisman up to 15m.

Upon activation, Vita can decide if the talisman enchantment will release upon proximity or after a short length of time (up to three rounds). Blueprint:

EX Item Name: Tome of Universal Formula
Alternate Names:

User: Vita Dominus

Level: D

Acquisition:
Over the course of long hours of study, Vita has unlocked a deeper understanding of the formulas that the Vis used to construct the world. With precise calculations, he has been able to infuse and impart a deeper more efficient enchanting process into this tome.

Item Description:
The tome is the size of a standard textbook and carries a hefty weight to it. Simple white leather wraps the binding and its pages which are thin like scrita. The edges of the book are tipped with gold and a black matrix of enchanting formula and arcane symbols adorn its cover and backing. The book itself looks a little processed as if created by a novice with some knowledge.

Ability Description:
The Tome of Universal Formula functions like a normal catalyst for all five schools of the Vis holding one spell the spellcaster may spend vigor on instead of charges.

Drawing from his studies in mathematics and Sacred Geometry he has discovered a way to grasp at residual energies left after a spell has been cast. Metatron’s Cube is the very basis of negative and positive energy and the study of how energies are transformed. For each spell cast, some of the lost energy is condensed and bound within the pages of the tome. Once full, The user may use these charges to cast an intrinsic spell or a focused spell at its second rank for free bypassing somatic or verbal components. Once used the book must take time to rebind its symbols for two turns

Effect:
Once 3 spells have been cast around Vita, he may cast an Intrensic spell or Focus spell at second turn for free. Bypassing verbal or somatic components. After cast, the book needs to recharge for two turns and then may start to gather charges again.

Over the course of long hours of study, Vita has unlocked a deeper understanding of the formulas that the Vis used to construct the world. With precise calculations, he has been able to infuse and impart a deeper more efficient enchanting process into this tome.

Item Description:

The edges of the book are tipped with gold and a black matrix of enchanting formula and arcane symbols adorn its cover and backing. The book itself looks a little processed as if created by a novice with some knowledge.

Ability Description:
The Tome of Universal Formula serves as a catalyst for spells, with the vital elements of the spell [Intrinsic Spell Name] infused into it. The wielder of this catalyst may cast the spell [Intrinsic Spell Name] using its verbal or somatic components, with no cost to Vigor.

Drawing from his studies in mathematics and Sacred Geometry Vita has discovered a universal formula which allows him to utilize residual energies left after a spell has been cast. The sacred symbol of Metatron’s Cube illustrates the basis of negative and positive energy and the study of how energies are transformed. For each spell cast, excess energy which is normally lost is caught within the Cube, condensed, and then bound within the pages of the tome. The tome may hold up to three spells' worth of residual energy. When the tome is filled, Vita may convert the negative energy to positive in order to bypass somatic or verbal components and cast a Novice level spell at its base level.

Effect:
After at least three spells have been cast using the catalyst, Vita may cast an Intrinsic or Focus spell of Novice tier, at its base level. This spell does not cost Vigor, and bypasses verbal or somatic components.

For the blueprint, the 'type' (metal, powder, liquid) is just roleplay now. Your terra regia is only stored by its grade (dahl, bigat, aurit...). So you need 15x dahlitium -- general rule of thumb is that an EX item will be about 3x the cost of a normal item of its type. A catalyst would normally be 5 TR, so 5 x 3 = 15. If you don't have 15 dahlitium, you can buy additional dahlitium with the Transfer option here, at a rate of 50 exa per 1 dahlitium: Exa

Removed the cooldown -- absorbing the energy of three spells suffices for that. However, it only counts spells cast with the catalyst, not spells cast near Vita.

Note: a catalyst can be crafted with one Intrinsic spell (up to its tier) permanently stored into it, not a permanent spell slot. That's why i left a space for a particular spell to be indicated. That spell can be changed when you upgrade the tome. In any case, the catalyst spell does not cost Vigor, but does require verbal/somatic components. Even though it does not cost vigor, it will count toward your three spells.

Removed the 'cast at second tier' portion. It will cast spells at their base level (spell level for Intrinsic spells, one-round for Focus spells). Getting a free spell cast 25% of the time is already significant.

EX Item Name: Daemon's bane
Alternate Names: Leiahwn Deuap

User: Aelflead Kirastes

Level: B

Acquisition:
Following the events of the Black Portal, Aelflead indirectly pierced the flesh of Dread Lord Malphas with a cheap, mass produced great sword, originally made to handle aberrant beasts. Making contact with the archdemon's blood and the potent miasma flowing through it warped the cheap blade and set it permanently ablaze. Thinking it useless, Aelflead was ready to trash it, though something told her to keep the supposedly ruined weapon close by. After sparking the blacksmith Keydis' interest in the weapon and then winning a small bet, the warrior blacksmith agreed to turn the weapon into something useful. This is the result of her skill applied to tainted auritium.

Item Description:
Leiahwn Deuap is a pair of kamas with curved handles, one gold and accented with black with the other acting as it's mirror. They are attached at the ends of their handles by a changing length of daemon fire when held, the user's visae or miasma in the case of the weapon's owner, fueling its hungry flames. Being ephemeral, the length of the fire chain fluctuates, though it is normally 2.5 meters.

Leiahwn Deuap is a medium/hand weapon.

Ability Description:
Curse Brand: Leiahwn Deuap's flames can burn it's wielder's vitalilty as fuel for its chain so that it's flames consume the kamas as well. The next strike made with the weapon consumes the flames to burn it's victims, physically and magically cursing them with a brand that destines them for misfortune.

Effect:
Fueling Leiahwn Deuap costs 350 vigor. All struck with the next attack made with Leiahwn Deuap are burned by the weapon, cursing them with an ugly brand similar to the one burned into the top of Aelflead's right breast.

Until the brand is removed, or it expires after 4 rounds, Aelflead has knowledge of whatever her victim can see.
Removing or expunging the brand costs 350 more vigor (for a total of 700) binds the target, causing them to be struck with some misfortune that unnaturally binds them in space and restricts the activation of abilities weaker than the curse. If no "natural" misfortune is possible, Leiahwn Deuap makes do with an unnatural one, simply summoning chains of fire from the nearest surface to pierce cursed targets through the location of the original mark.

The curse counts as a tier 4 binding, and the ability cannot be activated within 4 rounds of the last curse being expunged or expiring.

Approved with changes:

Nixing the reference to the bet, since it was unrelated to Keydis working on the sword. Updated the description to more closely match the crafting chapter since you gave your approval of the physical design.

I wouldn't consider kusari-gama to be a hand-to-hand weapon, even at a normal size. You don't have to specify its weapon-type, though. I'd consider it a medium weapon, you could argue for light, but if you've got these in hand, you'll need to use your feet for any 'hand-to-hand' bonuses. Plus you can always throw one and then punch and things like that.

I've mentioned to you that as an item, the ability should be simpler in scope. You're still trying to do multiple different things here: variable weapon range, precognition, fate manipulation, ability lockdown, physical binding. Taking these one at a time:

  • Variable range: Setting range to a consistent 10m. Specifying that the flame-chain can be grabbed by Aelflead (pretty necessary for using this kind of weapon), and will hurt, but won't cause actual injury.
  • Precognition: this doesn't feel in-theme to the abilities or the item. Removing it.
  • Fate manipulation: this is very undefined. 'Misfortune' could mean a lot of things.
  • Ability lockdown: here you're trying to multiply the effectiveness of the binding. When designing rules for PT, one thing we settled on for Bindings, specifically, is that it would be possible to wear them down a little at a time. In HD, the rule was always that you needed 1.5x the cost of the binding all at once to break free early, which created a situation where strong bindings were totally inescapable and when facing someone up to 50% stronger than you, you could win by repeatedly binding and forcing the opponent to burn all their energy. A binding, according to its nature, should restrict an opponent in some way. However, there must be equitable counter-play. Escaping should not be free, but it should always be an option, a risk vs reward decision.
  • Physical binding: This has become the focal point of the ability. However, in the spirit of the original intent of the weapon, I'm fusing this with the chain and the 'fate' concept.
Cost is also increased to be more in-line with a B-tier item/effect. Material cost is increased slightly (this is essentially a melee weapon, so 3x5=15x lateris, with an enchantment, 3x5=15x pulveris). Auritium, of course.

EX Item Name: Daemon's bane
Alternate Names: Leiahwn Deuap

User: Aelflead Kirastes

Level: B

Acquisition:
Following the events of the Black Portal, Aelflead indirectly pierced the flesh of Dread Lord Malphas with a mass-produced great sword, originally made to handle aberrant beasts. Making contact with the arch-demon's blood and the potent miasma flowing through it warped the cheap blade and instilled it with an undying flame. Thinking it useless, Aelflead was ready to trash it, though something told her to keep the supposedly ruined weapon close by. After sparking the blacksmith Keydis' interest in the weapon, the warrior blacksmith agreed to turn the weapon into something useful. This is the result of her skill applied to tainted auritium.

Item Description:
Leiahwn Deuap is a kusari-gama, one end in the form of a kama with a curved handle, the other in the shape of a scythe blade, with reflective golden edges and accented black surfaces. When held by Aelflead, they are attached at the ends of their handles by a length of daemon fire, responding to the miasma of the one who wounded their progenitor. The chain reaches up to 10m total between the two handles; if separated by more than 10m, the chain will remain with the one closest to Aelflead, and will reattach itself when both weapons are within reach. Although her demonic taint protects her from actual injury, touching the flames is painful, even for Aelflead.

Ability Description:
Leiahwn Deuap's flames spread from the chains to the blades themselves. The next successful attack made with either weapon, small or great, consumes the flames entirely to scorch a flaming brand over the wound. The cursed brand, in the shape of a rose surrounded by barbed wire, lingers and burns for up to four rounds, during which time the chain between the blades is gone.

Effect:
Preparing the curse requires an infusion of 500 vigor. The first target struck by an attack after the blades are aflame will receive the cursed brand: the chain disappears during this time. The brand causes the triggering injury to become a burn wound; even if the wound is healed, the brand remains and continues burning painfully for up to 4 rounds. At the end of four rounds, the heat fades from the brand and the chain returns to Leiahwn Deuap, or to whichever part of the weapon is held by Aelflead.

While the brand is on a victim, Aelflead may unleash the sealed flames: the chains reach out from the brand, binding the victim and locking them to anything within reach of the combined 10m. This binding has a magnitude of four, and lasts up to four rounds. When the binding is broken or fades away, the chain returns to Leiahwn Deuap, or to whichever part of the weapon is held by Aelflead.

Whether the brand is unleashed or returned peacefully, Aelflead may not prepare the curse mark until 4 rounds after the chain returns. Only one target may be branded at a time.

Acquisition:
Leaving behind a lifetime's worth of criminal deeds, Apollo resolved to walk the straight-and-narrow as best as his past would allow him. However, with so few of his marketable talents applying within the boundaries of the law, he was left with few options upon starting his new life. Eventually, he chose to become a tradesman, using his experience in working with firearms to open a small gun store. After running afoul of the loan shark who provided the finances for his start-up in Excelsus, the shop was razed.

His misfortune was compounded by the lost of his associate, Gorgines Riggs, though there was thinnest of silver linings in this tragedy: Apollo was able to move into the old man's lodgings, taking ownership of his workshop and client list. The boost in revenue afforded him richer materials to work with - and his most impressive creation to date: Jugum Adactis.

Item Description:
Jugum Adactis is a heavy, long-range, large-bore, bolt-action rifle. It is shoulder-fired, meaning it is meant to be used in the prone or stationary position and is increasingly difficult, nary impossible, to fire with any accuracy on the move. At nearly 3 1/2-feet long, it's also a cumbersome weapons system. Each round is, however, extremely deadly.

It has a heavily-padded buttstock , a tripod able to fastened to both horizontal and vertical surfaces, and a muzzle brake, all to reduce recoil and improve accuracy at long ranges. The dovetail-mounted scope magnifies targets 10x.

Ability Description:
The built-in attachments to the Jugum Adactis allow Apollo to fire at increased ranges with increased accuracy.

Effect:
Jugum Adactis can fire at long range with greater efficiency, increasing accuracy on stationary targets to 70%, and improves the magnitude to drop of only 1 tier.

I like this. It's a good way to capitalize on the advantages you already have as a sniper, and the simplicity means that you are effectively always benefiting rather than hoping for an occasion to use it.

Approved, with slight rewording of the Effect (just rewording, no buff/nerf) and increased material cost. Generally speaking, an EX item will cost 3x the normal materials. A gun normally takes 5x, so for this C-rank rifle, you'll need 15x Bigatium (10 Lateris, 5 Pulveris, let's say).

Also, I'm going to say that it has an increased range of 120/600. That's 20%, or +10% of base per tier. It may not come into play often since we don't play on a grid, but in the event of a sniper duel, you might be able to claim the advantage in overall range.

Finally, and this is admittedly pedantic, you mention the weapons system being "nearly 3 1/2 feet long" as if that's abnormal. 42" would actually be very short for a sniper rifle. This makes me think you mean specifically the barrel length. In that case, 42" is quite long, but not unrealistic (the KSVK is a real-world example of a rifle with a 1000mm/39" barrel, 1420mm/56" overall length). Therefore, I'm going to note that as barrel length below. If I'm mistaken, feel free to change it back.

Jugum Adactis can fire at long range with greater efficacy. Its effective range is 120m. At long range (120m-600m) Jugum Adactis can reliably hit a stationary man-sized target 70% of the time; attacks at this range are reduced in magnitude by 1 tier, but cannot be less than 1 magnitude.

EX Item Name: Crucible
Alternate Names:

User: Apollo

Level: C

Acquisition:
Crafted by Apollo.

Item Description:
A crucible is a vessel made to subject hardened material to high temperatures to induce melting. The crucible is also capable to smelting material to separate the different materials within alloys and ore. The vessel is essentially a medium-sized drum made of graphite wherein the metals are superheated to their melting point.

Ability Description:
The crucible allows for metalworking at its base stage, not only working with refined metals but also scrap metal and crafting byproducts.

Effect:
Using the crucible, Apollo is able to re-purpose swarf – leftover metal fragments created during metalworking – for later crafting, returning 25% of the total material purchased. This also allows him to melt and smelt previously-crafted items and reuse the material, generating 50% of the Terra Ragia originally used to craft the item.

This one poses an interesting dilemma. Generally, you're allowed to 'have' more than two EX items, but only carry two on your person at a time... but this would never need to be carried on your person, so you could essentially always have an extra EX item. Might have to add a rule for like "+1 EX item only usable out of combat." Consider that a loose rule for now. Even so...

Declined, for a rather mundane reason: it would require constant Admin manipulation to make this work. The system isn't set up in such a way that I could discount your crafting efforts, so I'd have to manually add the recovered materials to your account with each crafting. Even putting that aside, the ratios are rather too high, and it significantly upsets the already-tenuous balance in cost vs reward.

This is one of those things I believe works best as an RP-only kind of deal. Narratively, in writing it works like you want it to. But for game balance reasons, OOC you'll have to continue spending materials as normal.

EX Item Name: Latus et Ilia
Alternate Names:

User: Keydis and Red

Level: C

Acquisition:
Keydis crafted the weapons to represent the bond she shares with Red, following the events of Anguis Trigon.

https://www.postterminus.com/xf/threads/week-326-someone-fucked-up.23012/

Item Description:
Two shimmering bigatium tonfas, nearly identical. The faceted knobs at the ends of the weapon are capped in colored enamel: green on one, violet on the other. The shorter side of the main bar has a twist pattern, with the lines filled in with more enamel, red and dark brown. The longer side of the main bar has eight flat sides. Both weapons have Keydis' maker's mark in the palm of the handle, but more than that, on the opposite side from that mark, Keydis has etched an even more intricate design. Latus, with green caps and red lines, has a copy of the tattoo from Red's right arm; Ilia, with violet caps and brown lines, has a copy of the tattoo from Red's left arm.

Ability Description:
Latus and Ilia were designed with defense in mind. Although they serve admirably as hand-to-hand weapons, the true value lies in how quickly they can be drawn and maneuvered to block attacks, reinforced to disperse the energy.

Effect:
These tonfa are masterwork, light pugilis weapons. Additionally, they can be drawn rapidly into an open hand in response to an attack and act as a 'small' shield: when blocking with either tonfa, increase magnitude by one additional tier; this bonus doesn't apply when parrying or attacking. Only one attack per round can be blocked with these weapons.

(Note: Effectively, this means that a block with one of these tonfa has a magnitude equal to the user's Pugilis skill + 2 Bigatium Grade + 1 Masterwork + 1 EX bonus)

(Material Cost was arrived at by normal cost of a melee weapon [5 Lateris], times 3 for EX item [15], plus 5 Masterwork Forging [20], and times 2 for two weapons [40])
