[PM] [Open] Week 272: Never Backward

The smell of sulfur surged out, a black smoke filling the area. A monstrous being began to charge forward. It appeared amphibian, similar to a large crocodile. Porous vents dotted its back, the smoke flooding from in immense quantities. A white mask was visible on its head, as it curved forward to reveal a pair of snapping jaws.

At the same moment, the Earth began to shake, a fleshy-bouncing sound could be heard. From above a rotund hollow began to descend. It was perfectly spherical, like a large balloon. A circular mask with square holes moved around its ‘body’. Slamming into the ground, it bounced back up at a rapid pace, as it headed towards Sayis. Inflating to an immense size, it descended on the silver-haired man.

[328]

"Disrupt flight, motions of the air," Sayis growled out, eyes flicking toward the swarm seeking to escape. The wailing grated at his psyche, but he ignored it, casting his right arm outward. "Let them fall to the ground, in failure! Hadou Fifty-Eight, Tenran!"

Orchid winds circled around his fist and zanpakuto rapidly widening, forming a great tornado. The roaring winds pushed and pulled at the winged hollows, sucking them in, slamming them violently against one another, skulls, wings, and masks cracking in the vicious storm of demon magic.

Then Sayis threw Karinoyo at the banshee, lifting his freed left hand close to his body, palm open. His grey eyes flicked between the many enemies in front of him -- the tentacled beast; the gnashing, blade-armed hollow; the serpent-like rodents; the one with the monstrous jaws; and the bouncing sphere -- and with the concentration of pure destructive force, he breathed out, "Hadou Ninety-one, Senju Kouten Taihou."

In the air around him, brightly glowing golden spears of light formed, dozens of them. He thrust his left hand forward, and with that motion those bolts were loosed, firing in a great spread. The first impacted the ground next to one of the serpentine beasts... and on impact, the spear detonated, purifying the pitiful creature completely and utterly. The heavenly flares smashed into every one of the hollows, obliterating them.

In a blink, Karinoyo returned to his hand, the wails slowly dying away as the woman's soul found its rest.

He ran onward.

[250/2190]

From on high, three beastly creatures swam through the blood red sky, circling the chaos from above like ventures awaiting a perished meal. With large, sea green, bulky bodies and sharp features, they beared a striking resemblance to the long-extinct pterodactyl. Porcelain-like white masks clung to their angular faces, a long and serrated horn protruding from their frontal lobe and streaking upward accentuating the parallel. Blank, gleaming red eyes strobed as they blinked, all three pairs of them locked on the indomitable captain-commander below.

In the wake of the catastrophic spell unleashed by Sayis, their patience had worn thin. Broad wings flapped through the air, beating the wind along their undersides forcefully to gather momentum and altitude for the coming dive. With uncanny coordination, the three Hollows moved into a circular formation, winding around several times with feigned casualness.

A moment later, they split up, spun, and sprung toward Sayis in a pincer formation.

In unison, each opened their narrow, fang-lined mouths. A long, white spear of bone bulged from their throats, its point intensely sharp. Their wavering flight path settled into a definite line as if adjusting their aim and, all at once, the three beasts of flight spit the horns at Sayis. Like a rapid-fire machine gun, the first explosive salvo was followed by another and another until dozens and dozens were unleashed by each of them.

[228/228]

Together with those three pterodactyls, two clouds drifted in the direction of the Soutaichou.

The clouds consisted of a dark matter, like that of a hollows body, with the only solid form being the white mask hovering inside that matter.

Both clouds where on their way to suffocate Sayis, feeling certain that he would not be able to cut them. Like a cloud of poison, slowly hovering through the streets, they came closer and closer.

[75/570]

GDI brain, why you no have mood to write longer turns q.q

With the Menos Grande looming up ahead, the towering humanoid's roar echoing across the mountainside, there was no time to slow down for the enemies around him, even as the bone needles exploded around him, shrapnel ripping tears through his shihakushou and haori. "Deep abyss, grasp my enemies," he called out rapidly, throwing one sleeve over his mouth as he dove through the dark fog. "Hold fast and do not let them escape your cold embrace. Lock them in your grip and draw them deep into your abyssal maw! Bakudou Eighty-five, Event Horizon!"

The air above Sayis' head seemed to distort, and the Soutaichou quickly flashed ahead before it fully activated. The clouds and the flying hollows, though, were caught in the pull of the black hole, pulled in by its inexorable force!

The Menos roared again, the bright red glow of a cero in its jaws, and Sayis responded by launching Karinoyo high into the air, shooting far above even the Gillian's towering height. Sayis flashed to the spear, sweat beginning to coat his form as he dropped down on top of the hollow. He stabbed the spear down into the creature's head, then swung his Pseudo Blade to stab through its giant red eye. With a grunt of effort, Sayis raised his right arm... then slammed his zanpakuto down on the mask. With a sharp crack the mask began to split.

The cero was let loose, arcing across the landscape as the Menos Grande reeled from the devastating barrage on its head. The sweeping beam caught the trapped hollows, incinerating them.

"Listen to the howling roar! Spread your wings and cleave the twilight! Let my intensity burn bright! Hadou fifty-two, Funsha!"

Sayis kicked off from the Menos' mask, a gout of powerful flames bursting from beneath his feet. Already failing, the mask crumbled completely with the blast of those jets!

The Soutaichou shot through the air, propelling himself onward to Mount Fuji's fourth peak, to the fourth Menos Grande, leaving the third to crash to its demise.

[340/2230]

The gaseous hollows tried to get away from the black hole with all their might, but even the fastest sonido they could utilize, were not fast enough to move out of range. With heightened gravity, they were pinned down to the ground.

In the meantime, the Soutaichou had continued his way to the fourth Menos Grande, but suddenly, his way was blocked by a giant hollow.

The hollow looked like one of those statues an ancient human tribe had created on a far away island in the southeast Pacific Ocean. With its huge head, it tried to smash the shinigami while yelling ‘Gum Gum’ in a chesty voice.

[108/678]

Maddening barks could be heard. Two hollows, identical to one another, began to approach the Sayis. They were distinctively canine, razor sharp claws and teeth ripping through the ground in front of them. Powerful legs propelled them forward, as they leaped forward in tandem, preparing to take down their prey.

The ground began to shake, splintering and ripping open from underneath the Soutaichou. Two immense jaws emerged, arching upwards like an immense venus fly trap. In the center of the beasts maw was porcelain mask with a rippling fractal pattern radiating outwards from the center. From the hole, a red orb began to form, a basal hum of a cero building. As the jaws collapsed around the Captain Commander, the destructive cero was launched violently outwards.

[454]

As the jaws closed around the Soutaichou, suddenly the weight of his reiatsu increased, hammering down heavily. Rather than blasting upward, the cero recoiled, crashing back into the trap-hollow's own throat to explode outward and engulf the two canine beasts.

The body of the creature began dissipating to white specks, revealing Sayis standing there. In his right hand, he now held a black, guardless hilt wrapped in fine black chainmail. At first it seemed as if there was no blade at all, until it moved, revealing that one face of the blade was perfectly clear, while the other was a perfect mirror.

Sayis gathered his strength and slashed forward, ripping through the "Gum, Gum" hollow with one vicious stroke.

He rushed onward.

[120/2350]

There were three more hollows in the sky, not entirely unlike giant birds somehow mixed with fighter planes – their wings were fixed and they had small dorsal fins on their backs. They were slightly different, but their gunmetal gray skins and bone-white noses matched rather well. Of course, as they flew down in a graceful triangle around the Captain Commander, and each fired a cero not exactly aiming for where the Commander was, but aiming to form a triangle around him.

Using this 'Delta Attack', they hoped they could keep him from fleeing so their colleagues could come and disable him. He was too clever, and they were just clever enough to know that they couldn’t stop him by themselves. It was only working together that the hordes of Hueco Mundo were going to devour this feast. They needed to work together. Maybe for these three – Ignis, Lympha and Aura – cooperation was natural. They hoped the others would understand its necessity as well.

There was only so long the hollows of the last peak could be kept in the gravity well of the Commander’s kidou, and there was only so long before the shadows that stirred on the next peak decided it was time to eat this meal. Ignis, Lympha and Aura just needed to survive and do their part. Unfortunately, odds were they wouldn’t be successful in this endeavor.

A stentorian roar sounded in the distance, the billowing shroud of the fourth Menos Grande quivering in unsurpassed rage. Echoing against the infinite chattering of the mongrel horde before Sayis, another hollow lunged forth.

Quadruped and angular - it walked on limbs of curved blades. Points digging harshly into the ground as it zig-zagged towards Sayis, it leapt high above his head! Sleek mask grinning downwards as it descended, it began to spin. Rousing itself into a whirlwind of edges and blades, the beast came down upon the Soutaichou - a blur of power and death.

Still yet, the Garganta hummed amongst the summits of Fuji, resonating with every blow and blast that issued from the herculean effort of the shinigami that fought to close them.

While the three flying hollows and the fourth Menos Grande distracted the Soutaichou, a frog-like hollow moved to the center of the crater.

The hollow looked like a huge South American horned frog, with spikes all over its body and a huge mouth riddled with sharp teeth. With its stout body and folded limbs, it was really predestinated to jump to the middle of the crater.

So, that was exactly what the frog hollow did. Leaving his brethren behind, it leaped into the direction of the four Captains.

[88/766]

"Rikujoukourou!"

The beast of deadly whirling blades was met with six rods of gleaming golden light, slamming into it around its mid-section. With nowhere to go, the hollow was struck by the 'Delta' of cero beams from above!

"Raikouhou!"

From the Soutaichou's extended right arm, a bolt of golden lightning surged forth. The deadly hadou struck the frog-like hollow mid-leap, ending its flight in dramatic fashion as the creature exploded into white particles.

Sayis slapped his palm against the clear side of Karil and flooded the blade with reiatsu before stepping forward. The blade, held overhead, caught one of the beams of the Delta cero, which Sayis arced across the sky to strike down the three hollows.

Setting his sights on the next Menos, he plodded onward.

[130/2480]

So far, the Soutaichou was able to slice and dice through all the hollows that jumped in between him and his goal, but would he be able to keep that pace up?

From the center side of the crater, a fast paced hollow came at him. This hollow was by far the fastest of all the hollows Sayis had faced until now, but at the same time, it lacked power. Running up, it soon was directly at Sayis’ side and tried to bite a piece of flesh out his right arm. Or so it thought.

As soon as his head went down, the hollow needed to perform a blindingly fast sonido to dodge the oncoming slash of the weapon the Soul Reaper wielded. Even though the monster was fast, Sayis reflexes and ways of wielding a sword still managed to sever the left arm of the beast.

The hollow cried out in pain when it lost one of its limbs and appeared in front of the Soutaichou, but as stupid as it was, it attacked him once more. Using another sonido to confuse its prey, the hollow arrived at the left side of Sayis and tried to get a grip of his bare arm.

Oh, if it would be able able to touch the skin, it could infuse the shinigami with its own reiatsu and numb his senses for a short duration.

The monster loved to do this. First, it would numb the visual senses of its prey, so it could bite through the flesh out of nowhere. Such delicious and juicy flesh.

[263/1029]

The monster's jaws were right there, too close to stab with Karinoyo and too far for Karil to reach in time.

Red splashed upward.

Sayis continued moving, ripping the pseudo blade out of the hollow's skull. It seemed it was fast even in death, glowing white particles streaming rapidly skyward.

[50/2530]

Sorry that's so short. There wasn't much else to do against one hollow and I'm tired besides.

While the white particles began to fly heavenwards, another hollow already was nearby.

The hollow’s head looked like that of a bird, with a huge beak, sharpened like a sword. The upper part of this mandible, however, was considerably larger than the lower one, creating a more abstract picture. This was only emphasized by the mole-like body the hollow had.

This hollow, did not plan to charge at the strong Soul Reaper right away, but instead shot its larger part in Sayis direction. While the beak still was on the fly, the hollow dug itself in and went into hiding.

The beak, however, reacted like an autonome being that circled Sayis, before it tried to dive down on him, aiming for the neck.

[123/1152]

Karil sliced down, splitting the beak in half without breaking his stride. Sayis continued onward, trying to make up for lost time while the hollow hordes were thinner.

While there were ways to draw out the hollow from underground, he did not have the time or patience to do so.

[50/2580]

The mole-like hollow cried out in pain in his hole while the Shinigami passed it without even bothering to take care of the hollow. Oh he would pay for this, but not now.

For now, the Soutaichou faced another being. In front of the strong Soul Reaper and his weapons, stood a large tree, a tree without leaves but a mask instead.

The tree-like hollow swayed its branches at Sayis, trying to whip him. Even though this tree had no leaves, the branches were cluttered with fruits, highly explosive fruits. Fruits, which rained down on the position Sayis had just moved onto. A dozen of those began to explode all around Sayis and maybe some of these had even hit the target.

Bursting forward in another rare flash-step, Sayis emerged ahead of the explosions, closed lightly singed but otherwise untouched. With a loud crack, the woody flesh of the hollow split down the center; the Soutaichou shoved again, thrusting Karinoyo all the way through to the back of the tree.

His pseudo blade settled against the bottom of the spear, shoving the spear upward with a mighty heave! The hollow ripped right down the center, mask and all, before it could throw another barrage.

The Soutaichou looked ahead, setting his sights on the next Menos as he paused only briefly to catch his breath. His thoughts flicked briefly to the captains down in the crater... but his eyes did not. They remained focused forward, on his next target, on achieving his objective.

[130/2710]

Sorry to keep brushing these off, but the idea for the thread is for Sayis to be facing lots of hollows, not just one at a time. >.>

The brood continued to fester and spill outwards. Their forms teemed, although at what was a noticeably lesser number. The Menos Grande of the next peak peered curiously back at the Soutaichou - a crimson allure beginning to creak outwards from its uniform mask.

A large, rodent-like beast clamored forwards. It scurried to and fro, dashing from between the crowds to take a bite at the shinigami before attempting to retreat to the safety of the horde. Another, stocky and round, balled itself up before digging its claws into the ground. With a single, earth-splitting crunch, it had launched itself like a cannonball at the man!

There would be no rest for Sayis Inuzuri on this day - the Soutaichou would be forced to stand firm in his beliefs or perish.

[ 131 / 864 ]

There was no hesitation or falter in Sayis' stride; reflexes honed from countless hours of practice and tested in open battle against some of the deadliest beings ever to exist, the Soutaichou had his sword up even as he stepped to the side. "Haien!" Purple flames dance along the edge of the glass-like weapon, outlining the blade as if to announce to the hollow what a mistake it had made.

It was only a scratch, a light touch as the hollow hurtled past, but it was enough: the violet flames transferred from sword to hollow, engulfing the stocky creature in an instant!

In that same moment, his pseudo blade launched forward to skewer the smaller hollow.

Mirrored face toward the charging cero, Sayis rushed forward, eager to clear the remaining distance and remove one more threat from the world of the living.
